Google Maps/Places in Organic SERP
-
This question is regarding having a Google Places snippet consisting of your business location and opening hours appearing in Google SERP when the business name is searched for.
One of our competitors who has a location within their name e.g. 'Widgets of Oxford' have a Google Places snippet appear on the RHS of the search results (where Google Ads usually go) when searched for.
We are trying to replicate this for our business but cannot seem to find any information relating to doing this apart from that this only appears for them as they have a location in their name. This is because we see a similar snippet when we search for our business name in the format "OurBusinessName in OurLocation).
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

i have this happaning for a couple of clients, I cannot say for sure why it works for them and not others, but it happaned after I added images to their listing. I added cutout images by the way just in case it makes a difference, they certainly look better as local images are a bit small.

Hi There,
The main requirement is to make sure that you fill all the textboxes when optimizing your listing. You need to make sure you provide all the information that is required and fill in all the additional boxes.
Categories are really important - make sure you include the keywords you want to rank for here but dont keyword stuff- try adding the location. keep it readable. make it exciting and included some sort of "call to action"
And take advantage of the additional details section. This is where you can actually add in some of your keywords. But please be reminded – don’t keyword stuff, keep it useful and readable for users. Take one field and mention all your service areas. If your products or services can be grouped somehow, then split them up you can list your accreditations and awards, the reservations page on your website, the suburbs you service. Whatever, if your business does it, figure out a way to put it in the additional details section.
Encouraging Reviews. To increase localization visibility a customer review generation strategy is required. Client needs to encourage customers to write and submit reviews to the websites listed above either via facebook, mailers or by offering discounts and special offers in store.
-
Send a message to your Facebook fans or email list and ask them to leave a review at your Google Place page
-
If you send out follow up, or reminder, post cards (such as many dentists) incorporate a call to action to review your business
-
Put a call to action (and link) asking for a review on your web site
-
Display a sign by your cash register or hand them a flier with their receipt asking for a review
-
Make sure to make the process as easy as possible, provide a link to your Places page and give detailed instructions on what they need to do leave a review.
Hope this helps
Thanks
Ari

Link building to Google+ profile: any local SEO value?
Has anyone found value in building links to Google+ profile for local seo rankings? My gut tells me that it will, but I am not 100% sure. If it does, then does that mean that all the traditional SEO factors that would go into ranking a site organically also work for ranking locally for certain keywords? So far, I have found that the best thing for moving up rankings is reviews on Google+, but then does that make local SEO (from a high view point) just a race for high reviews and building the most citation? I am feeling like the differentiator for local SEO is UN-structured citations and links to Google+ profiles. Any thoughts? See you at MozCon!

Google Places Bulk Uploader
Hi we have 15 stores we want to transfer over to our main google places account. We can only claim them with google places bulk uploader. So from what i have read, i have to add each store to the spreadsheet then request bulk upload. Since these google places listings already exist, will the listings i create (via the spreadsheet) simply merge with the old ones? Or could there be a chance of the creation of duplicate listings (how can you avoid this). And is it necessary to add latitude and longitude points (because you don't have to add them)? The goal is to add the old listings into a our Google Places account, and can only use the bulk uploader. Thanks,

Google Places Creation
Hello, I am currently managing 200 clients for which I have to create Google Places. Can I create 200 different places for each client, and manage all them from one Gmail account? If one client doesn't want to continue the contract, can I transfer the managing of the place to another account?

Reasons for store not showing up on Google?
Hi my client has a store which is not showing up on Google search results. E.g. if you looked up store name and store location on Google, all the stores in that particular city show up except one. Also even if you click the: More results near CITY, and State the stores listing still doesn't show up. So for some reason Google has excluded the store from Google search. But if you go to Google Maps directly, and type in the same keyword "STORE NAME CITY" the store is displayed and there. Does anyone know any reason why the store has been excluded from Google search results, but is listed successfully on Google Maps.

Google Image Search?
We get very little search traffic from the images on our site & I can't necessarily figure out why? We post a ton & tag them correctly, we've got to be missing something? We are a Wordpress blog, can anyone provide some quality articles on Image search or have suggestions that should help to get more traffic? Our site does fairly well, as we get over 100k/visits a month, so we'd really like to get more traffic from our images.

Can this make one's local listing vanish from Google local search?
Hi All, Does anyone know if selecting "Yes, this business serves customers at their locations" under "service areas and location settings" in Google Places can cause a business's listing to disappear from Google local search? My interior designer client has a bricks-and-mortar location, was ranking at about #20 for "interior designer" in Portland, and now has dropped from local search. I had "No, all customers come to the business location" selected previously. In the past week, before the vanishing, I made these changes: 1. changed the service area to "Yes, this business serves customers at their locations", 2. removed "Portland" from the description in Google Places, and 3. submitted maybe two dozen directory listings to high DA sites (using Whitespark as the tool for determining where to post). Thanks everyone! Zack

Google Maps Service Areas
Hi, is there a limit on the number of service areas I can choose for my Google place/map listing.? For optimization purposes should I include the whole state, or each specific city. My keyword for google maps is not very competitive and I want to cover a few different states , I have the time to put specific cities just not sure if there is a restriction on number of service areas. Cheers
