Local Business schema / markup
-
What markup should local businesses employ on their website?
I'm aware of the newer schema.org markup but does Google still use rich snippets, geotags, etc.?

Hi MVBryanB,
There are a variety of choices available to you in terms of markup. The main benefit of Schema is that Google, Bing and Yahoo have all agreed on it as a standard. I highly recommend that you read Mike Blumenthal's article on this subject from last autumn, as well as all the comments following it:
Take special note of the free Schema tool Mike links to. I think this resource is exactly what you are looking for.

I use schema, it will work fine with rich snippets in SERPs. Everything a typical local business should need is covered... Is there a specific rich snippet you have in mind for a business?
I use this as an easy schema code generator: http://www.microdatagenerator.com/local-business-schema
Once you've got it enabled, check your implementation with the snippets tester: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets

Shopify: AggregateRating Schema Error

One of offers or review or aggregateRating should be provided. I am using a third-party app 'Shopify Product Review' to implement the rating. What I should do to solve this error. Thanks very much for the help! I found many people have this issue too in the community! Many thanks Pui0 -
Duplicate/ <title>element too long issues</title>
I have a "duplicate <title>"/"<title> element too long" issue with thousands of pages. In the future I would like to automate these in a way that keeps them from being duplicated AND too long. The solution I came up with was to standardize these monthly posts with a similar, shorter, <title>, but then differentiate by adding the month and the year of the post at the end of each <title>. Hundreds of these come out every week, so it is hard to sit there and come up with a unique <title> every time. With this solution the <title> tags would undoubtedly be short enough, however my primary concern is, would simply adding the month and year at the end of each <title> be enough for Google/Moz to decide it is not a duplicate? How much variation is enough for it not to be deemed a duplicate <title>? </p></title>

How do I handle this 301/indexing mess?
I'm working on a client's site and noticed a brisk drop in rankings. In doing some digging I found that the homepage (domain.com) is 301'd to domain.com/home.html. Here's my problem/questions: 1. domain.com is indexed by Google 2. domain.com/home.html is not indexed by Google 3. both domains have some healthy linking 4. Is the fact that domain.com/home.html impacting rankings? 5. How do carefully handle this situation (ex. redirect domain.com/home.html back to domain.com?) 6. See the attached jpeg for a visual representation of my debacle. hcIiPAs

Fixing scattered incorrect NAP for Local Listings
I have several clients who have old addresses scattered around the search engines. Correcting them all individually is extremely time consuming and I'm looking into services like Yext and Localeze, but they tend to be fairly pricey. Does Localeze actually end up correcting most of the random listings? Is there any other services I should be aware of? Thanks! Tom

Rel=alternate to help localize sites
I am wondering about the efficiency of the rel=alternate tag and how well it works at specifically localizing content. Example: I have a website on a few ccTLD's but for some reason my .com shows up on Google.co.uk before my .co.uk version of my page. Some people have mentioned using rel=alternate but in my research this only seems to be applicable for duplicate content in another language. If I am wrong here can somebody please help me better understand this application of the rel=alternate tag. All my research leads me to rel=alternate hreflang= and I am not sure that is what I want. Thanks,

Link Juice / Java pop up
Hi all I am a bit unsure of something and would appreciate it if someone could clarify (without the sad trombone hinting that my question is stupid like the last time i asked a question) Our Newsletter was recently posted on a website and i am not sure if the link pointing back is actually passing link juice. When clicking the link, a Java pop up box appears saying "click here to go to authors site" I am wondering if this was implemented to avoid google passing its juice? Or if google can index the pop up and give us credit for the link? Please have a look at the article, and let me know what you guys think? http://www.bestholidaynews.com/adventure-and-activities/africa/our-top-3-overlanding-egypt-trips-2.html Thanks in advance Regards Greg
