Newbie with a few questions
-
Hi!
First post here.
Would be great if someone could help me out with a few questions:
1. When I search a brand-name, there are 6 pages in 2 columns listed right below the brand in the SERPS. Is it possible to choose which pages in the "category list" that Google shows?
2. From what I've understood, the keywords being included early in the content is of much higher importance than using them in a perfectly structured tag hierarchy.
Instead of using a hierarchy like this:
I could use something like this (which reads much better):
****Would this make any difference?
3. My category pages show up in the search listings. Is this a bad thing? Should I nofollow or noindex?
4. Category and author pages triggers duplicate content in seomoz. Should I do anything about it? Should i make all the excerpts unique to avoid this?
4. Is the title tag recommendation of 66 characters with or without the brand name? Am I good as long as the post part of the title is less than 66? Remove the brand name from the title all together?****

Ok, I know, sorry,
These site links are selected by google, you only can select manually which one you don't want to show using Web Master Tools.

I don't understand this question, if you can clarify it it will be great.
You need use tags with the target keyword for the page that you want to optimize, but the structure of the page should use
**and <h2,...>tags,
I love this explanation: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/perfecting-keyword-targeting-on-page-optimization
3.
You can use the category like a hub, but only if these pages have content, if it's not the case, and you have duplicate content issues with these pages, you can use robots.txt to block the duplicate category page or robots tag in page.4.
Keep one of each pages and block the other ones5.
66 With the brand name. If the brand awareness is high remove it, but if you work on this awareness try to use the brand name in all your title tags with the 66 characters in mind.I hope it helps
Bye</h2,...>**

One more question about rel=canonical
I'm still trying to wrap my head around rel=canonical and its importance. Thanks to the community, I've been able to understand most of it. Still, I have a couple of very specific questions: I share certain blog posts on the Huffington Post. Here's an example: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/cedric-lizotte/munich-travel-guide_b_13438956.html - Of course I post these on my blog as well. Here: http://www.continentscondiments.com/things-munich-classics/ - Obviously the HuffPo has a huge DA, and I'll never match it. However the original post is mine, on my blog, and not on the HuffPo. They wont - obviously - add a rel=canonical just for me and for the sake of it, they have a million other things to do. QUESTION: Should I add a rel=canonical to my own site pointing to the post on the HuffPost? What would be the advantage? Should I just leave this alone? I share blog posts on Go4TravelBlog too. Example: http://www.go4travelblog.com/dallmayr-restaurant-munich/ - but, once again, the original post is on one of my blogs. In this case, it's on another blog of mine: http://www.thefinediningblog.com/dallmayr-restaurant-in-munich/ QUESTION: Well it's pretty much the same! Should I beg Go4TravelBlog to add a rel=canonical pointing to mine? If they refuse, what do I do? Would it be better to add a rel=canonical from my site to theirs, or do I fight it out and have a rel=canonical pointing to my own post? Why? Thanks a million for your help!

Page rank question
Hi all, pretty standard SEO question that I'm sure you are all getting asked day in, day out... the following page: http://www.3wisemonkeys.co.uk/dvd/portable-dvd-player-car/ It's targetting keywords "portable dvd", "portable DVD player", "portable DVD players" & "portable dvd player for car". The page gets a grade A via Moz analytics On-page grader for the keywords. We have incoming links and I believe the page is structured correctly with all meta tags, H1 etc and tried not too overload the tags with keywords. We have the keywords in the URL etc. We are still stuck on page 2 for all phrases. Any thoughts or suggestions as to what we are doing wrong please? Any help would be great.

Google Index/Cashe questions
I have 15k+ pages. I have 4.5k pages indexed. What relation is the google cashe to indexing pages? My site gets cashed every two days. The competition in my SERP goes 2-3weeks to get cashed. What does this indicate? Is your cashe date your last google crawl? How can I get google to crawl my site? Is there a way I can get google to crawl my site starting from an internal page. This way I could set up a better linking structure that would benefit from doing activities that get that page indexed to help get my site indexed more thoroughly...

Time on Site vs Bounce Rate Question
If you follow my questions here on SEOMoz, you know that we have quite a few issues with a particular site. http://bit.ly/RE8V2a Our bounce rate was over 85% for quite some time. We changed the site template and the Bounce Rate has dropped to around 5%, but the Time on Site has dropped dramatically. We were just over two minutes, now we're averaging 1:34. But here's the thing, time spent on the Home Page is averaging 24 seconds! What would you take away from this? Thanks so much!

Product Title Formating Question
The majority of the products I sell require lengthy product titles, I have 600+ items that have titles over 70+ characters. In the interest of reducing the character count (Product Feeds) I'm trying to eliminate unnecessary "stop words" in the titles, such as "and", "with" etc.. I've listed an example of a current product listing below, followed by two different formats to reduce the character count. Which one if any is better for SEO or should I leave my titles alone and stick with my original format? Current Listing Example: DeWalt Dual Comfort Safety Glasses with Black Frame and Clear Anti-Fog Lens Suggested Listing Example: DeWalt Dual Comfort Safety Glasses-Black Frame-Clear Anti-Fog Lens DeWalt Dual Comfort Safety Glasses/Black Frame/Clear Anti-Fog Lens
