Fresh content ideas for a static site?
-
I have an ecommerce site. My home page is set-up just as I want it. I'm not looking to redo it or change my site to a blog. Just looking for some new, different, SEO friendly ideas or concepts to keep it "fresh".

I've just built an eCommerce site as well, and it can definitely be tricky to keep the information fresh, especially if you're in a market that's not constantly releasing the newer, faster, better versions of the products you're selling, or if you have a small niche-focused inventory.
Like Alan said, updating a section of the homepage with snippets from a separate blog or industry news is a wonderful way to keep fresh content on your homepage, and it also lets potential customers know that you actively maintain your site and are knowledgeable about the products you sell.
Another thing you might consider is dedicating a section of your homepage to a featured product or special that changes once a month or so. If you do go this route, don't just put a picture of the product under a heading that says "Featured Product" with a link to the product page. A small variation in content like that won't do much good. Dedicate a little more time and space to the section and provide product descriptions, reviews, etc on the homepage itself.

One thing you could try is a section somewhere that has changing content, for example, tweets that make announcements about new things or other changes on your site, or relevant news. If you did have a separate blog, where you comment on site changes, trends or other relevant news, you could put some snippets of text over on the right side in a section of its own. That way, you would always have movement that is current.

Is this dulplicate content causing me problems
Hi, i am going to try and explain this as best as possible as i am not used to working with k2 that much. What i have as an example is a page which is here http://www.in2town.co.uk/Cheap-Flights-Ryanair-News This page is news about ryanair now because i am working in joomla and i am working with k2, and i am also making each landing page a front page, i am having problems. For people who do not use joomla i will explain. For the ryanair page which is a front page, i have to make a category and that category for all my content to go into is called ryaniar-news. Now i have the page above which is for ryanair news but the problem i have got is, because i have a category it brings up all the content as a blog format. so for example here is the category section in blog format. http://www.in2town.co.uk/news/ryaniar-news Now i have managed to make sure that the articles are not showing but it brings up the title of the pages and i am worried that this will be seen as duplicate content and will damage the main page of http://www.in2town.co.uk/Cheap-Flights-Ryanair-News I may have set everything up wrong i am not sure but if i have i would be glad if someone can tell me the right way to do it. I do not like the blog format and that is why i use a front page set up so i can have my layout the way i want it. Can anyone please explain if my set up will damage the main ryanair news page or what i need to do to sort it out please.

Evergreen content: Dedicated section or blog posts?
As part of our content strategy we are creating an ongoing series of articles to help both our potential buyers and our users learn about our product and improve their knowledge of industry best practices in general. Internally, we've had some debate as to where we should host this content within our site. We've identified two approaches: Series of blog posts Dedicated knowledge section of the website If we go with the first approach, we would created a dedicated section that indexed all the blog posts. If we went with the second, we'd create blog posts for each of the articles announcing their addition. Is there any difference, SEO wise with the two approaches? What would you recommend? Thanks, Darren.

Duplicate Page Content WordPress blog with categories?
Just got a crawl report back from SEOmoz and it gives me lots of errors for "duplicate page content". Upon investigating, I notice this is because my WP blog is setup into categories so the home page is almost identical to one of the category pages. None of my actually posts are the same but the category pages have some overlap since the same post could show up in two or more categories. Is this a problem or can I just ignore this error? Any thing I should be doing differently? Thanks!
