Does this on huffington post help your seo aims
-
Hi, i am a huge fan of Huffington post, it is an amazing site, not just saying this because they have mentioned our site over 50 times, but i really like the site. But one question i have which i have noticed over and over again is does the following help with seo, as i am a bit puzzled with it
here is one of their pages
and the section i am puzzled about is
Follow:
Louis Walsh, One Direction, Simon Cowell, Sony Music, The Sun, UK Entertainment, X Factor, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Uk News, UK Entertainment News
Can anyone let me know why the site does this and what benefits it brings
-
Yup. They're going to increase clicks and they are also good internal links. They likely help the search engines figure out what those pages are about.
-
Yep, as EGOL said the primary purpose of these links is to increase traffic/pageviews to those pages. If you're a site visitor looking at an article about One Direction, there's a good chance you'll be into more stories about them, their manager, their boss, label, etc etc - so these links are primarily for usability.
In addition, these pages are likely never linked to from anywhere else on the site, so the links are helping to pass a bit of link equity to pages that would otherwise not get much/any. A quick OSE check of the Louis Walsh page reveals 35 backlinks, all from the Huff UK domain, all from related articles, and all with "Louis Walsh" anchor text, too (which helps a tiny bit).

Those are links to related topics (category pages) on their site that many people probably click.
Looks like a good idea to me. Might really increase the pageviews.

Does google penalize you if you post content in french and english on a website
I'm trying to encourage content editors to only post content in either English or French. For example we have a French press release but the team are wanting it on our site in French and English. I thought this would fall under duplicate content rules. Does google penalize you if you post content in French and English on a website?

Could decreasing publishing frequency negatively affect our SEO?
Hi Moz Community! I run marketing for a DA 43 website. We've been consistently blogging 4-5 times per week for the past 7 years, and its become ingrained in company culture. Due to limited resources, I want to decrease publishing frequency on the blog and focus on other marketing activities (content promotion, higher value content, link outreach, CRO etc). However, our team is worried that decreasing frequency might negatively affect our SEO (organic search is by far our most important acquisition channel, is the main revenue driver for the whole company). When I look at metrics, a couple of things stand out: 1) a very small % of our blog posts get meaningful organic traffic, 2) the majority of organic traffic that produces customers actually goes through the homepage, not the blog, 3) the vast majority of our blog posts are not earning links as we have not focused much on promotion. Anybody have thoughts on specifically whether decreasing blogging frequency might have an impact? (I know Moz and Hubspot have both done frequency experiments, but those were on high-DA, high-engagement sites where every post had a chance to earn links, etc.) so I'm wanting to isolate the case where publishing frequency is decreased on a site where most posts aren't getting links/much engagement. Thanks!

Exchanging Guest Blog Opportunities - SEO Implications?
Haven't found a clear, recent answer on this. What are the SEO implications of exchanging guest blogging opportunities (in other words, we write an article for a partner blog with a backlink, and they write an article on on our blog with a backlink)? The partner site has a 57 domain authority and we have a 24 domain authority.

SEO advice needed regarding Bookmark Sites
Hi all We have recently employed a SEO company. They have written some blogs and promoted the blogs on up to 20 bookmark sites. On each bookmark site the text is the same. Will Google class this as duplicate content? Is this a good idea? Any advise would be appreciated, thanks.

Rewrite of blog posts
I have to admit. Sometimes, when i write a blog post, I'm a bit lazy. I don't concentrate on the on page optimization portion of the blog post. I used to. But, as of late, I haven't. I was wondering if it was worth it to tweak my blog posts just a bit with a few keywords to improve my on page optimization. Or, do you think that it is too late and not worth the trouble.

Please help me stop google indexing https pages on my wordpress site
I added SSL to my wordpress blog because that was the only way to get a dedicated IP address for my site at my host. Now I am noticing Google has started indexing posts both as http and https. Can some one please help how to force google not to index https as I am sure its like having duplicate content. All help is appreciated. So far I have added this to top of htaccess file: RewriteEngine on Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} ^443$ RewriteRule ^robots.txt$ robots_ssl.txt And added robots_ssl.txt with following: User-agent: Googlebot Disallow: / User-agent: * Disallow: / But https pages are still being indexed. Please help.
