Best way to deal with multiple languages
-
Hey guys,
I've been trying to read up on this and have found that answers vary greatly, so I figured I'd seek your expertise.
When dealing with the url structure of a site that is translated into multiple languages, is it better SEO wise to structure a site like this : domain.com/en domain.com/it etc
or to simply add url modifiers like domain.com/?lang=en domain.com/?lang=it
In the first example, I'm afraid google might see my content as duplicate even though its in a different language.

I'd concur with this approach - however you can only Geo-Target with Google Webmaster Tools, not language target.
You might be better to implement rel="alternate" hreflang = "x" via your sitemaps to help Google understand which content is intended for which audience. See - http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2620865
I hope this helps,
Hannah

Careful with this
Content in different languages shouldn't be viewed as duplicate, however I have seen sites run into problems when they have say US English and UK English content which is very similar.
-
I always use the /es approach and you can use Google Webmaster Tools to Geo target different sub- directories
-
Its a fact that different languages are not considered as duplicate content

How to avoid getting penalized for having same website in 2 languages
Hi, I have a price comparison website in English with .com domain. Now as we are expanding, we want to localize our website and target different markets in their local languages. The first market we are targetting is France. For that purpose we have a different domain name in French .fr domain The website however, will have the exact same content & mostly translated in French. My question is what is the best way to avoid getting penalized by Google for having duplicate content? Thanks,

Taxonomy question - best approach for site structure
Hi all, I'm working on a dentist's website and want some advice on the best way to lay out the navigation. I would like to know which structure will help the site work naturally. I feel the second example would be better as it would focus the 'power' around the type of treatment and get that to rank better. .com/assessment/whitening

.com/assessment/straightening
.com/treatment/whitening
.com/treatment/straightening or .com/whitening/assessment

.com/whitening/treatment

Schema Markup for Multiple Locations
I am reaching out to see if I correctly set up Schema Markup on our website for multiple locations. Our company has HQ in Little Chute WI but we have 6 other office locations. We have a separate page for each office within our website. I inserted ProfessionalService Schema Markup, using GTM. I used the address of our HQ Little Chute office on all pages besides the 6 pages that have different office locations. I then individually set up unique ProfessionalService Schema Markup for the 6 locations with their unique location addresses. Did I do this correctly? Thanks

Best way to find broken links on a large site?
I've tried using Xenu, but this is a bit time consuming because it only tells you if the link sin't found & doesn't tell you which pages link to the 404'd page. Webmaster tools seems a bit dated & unreliable. Several of the links it lists as broken aren't. Does anyone have any other suggestions for compiling a list of broken links on a large site>

Best way to block a search engine from crawling a link?
If we have one page on our site that is is only linked to by one other page, what is the best way to block crawler access to that page? I know we could set the link to "nofollow" and that would prevent the crawler from passing any authority, and we can set the page to "noindex" to prevent it from appearing in search results, but what is the best way to prevent the crawler from accessing that one link?
