How to add canonical tag
-
Hi,
I read through many of the forum questions dealing with the overly dynamic URLS and I think I understand. Please let me know if I know what I am talking about:
If SEO moz is saying I have 20 pages (mostly search and home/index pages) with overly dynamic urls, I would go to the that particular page and add the following code between the head tag:
This code would cause Google to go to this page instead of the following duplicate index pages:
1. http://www.about-sports-collectibles.com/index.php?pcsid=0a83aa7119cf3d80a1d018634ec4ec94&p
2. http://www.about-sports-collectibles.com/index.php?pcsid=18b220fc62628b013a51c6f26209df50&p
There are a total of about 8 of these index pages.
The problem is that I can't figure out where I would access each of these duplicate pages to add the canonical tag. There is only one home page with coding.
As far as the search pages are concerned, I would not want Google to follow those pages would I? If that is the case, what would be the best code to add between the tags?
For instance here are a couple of the overly-dynamic URL pages for the search pages:
1. http://www.about-sports-collectibles.com/index.php?p=catalog&mode=search&search_in=all&search_str=
I hope I am not overwhelming anyone with my questions. I really am trying to get a handle on how Ll this stuff works.
Thanks so much the help.

Yes, you would add the canonical link element:
to the 20 pages that are the same as your home page. But I think they are all the same page, so you don't have to look far. The pcsid looks like a session id, so if you can add the canonical link element to index.php, it will appear in all displays of the home page. It is OK if the canonical link element on a page points to itself.
Notice that index.php is used for search results and shopping cart pages also. So adding it to index.php may add it to all your search pages and cart pages. But do you want those pages indexed? If not, then the element is OK on these pages.
WARNING
Your product pages do not display index.php, but I am assuming they are dynamically generated. If they are, you may end up with the canonical link element on every page of your site. If your software can't handle that differently, you will be better off without the canonical link element.
Use an XML Sitemap
NOTE: Use an XML sitemap, and submit it on Google Webmaster Tools (and similar at other engines). If the URL is on the sitemap, it should get preference over a URL not on the sitemap.
Currently on Google
You sites listings don't show any pcsid numbers, so the duplicate content issue may not be a big problem. You do, however, want credit when someone links to your page and add a pcsid in their linking url.
If your shopping cart provider does not have a way for you to fix this, urge them to add it.

Tracking down rel="canonical" on Wordpress site
A rel="canonical" is being added to every page and post on my Wordpress site - not tag results, not category results. Not a major problem, right? Except that I don't know where it's coming from. I've tried tracking it down - change the theme back to a default one, turn off all the plugins - it's still there. Is it coming from .htaccess perhaps? The only issue it is causing is that it has causes me to have to turn off the canonical option in Platinum SEO as that was resulting in two identical rel=canon on each page. It doesn't seem to be causing problem but I'd like to get a better understanding of what it going on.

Use of the word Find in Title Tags
Hey, So i'm looking to make content that is optimized for Finding an injury lawyer in boston. The Phrase "Personal Injury Lawyers in Boston" get's a lot more searches than "Find Personal Injury Lawyers in Boston" but with the Find is it less competitive? The same thing goes for "Find lawyers in Boston" vs. "Lawyers in Boston." My question is, is it better to put the word FInd in front or not? Is there a downside?

Where to add new content
I run a vBulletin website and vBulletin isnt very SEO friendly. I do fairly well in Google for most of my keywords, but forums dont necessarily build strong page authority etc. My site deals with fishing reports across the state of VA and drives 15-18k sessions a month and close to 100,000 page views a month based on Google Analytics. I want to start targeting new keywords and I am concerned about vBulletin inability to be SEO friendly. Many of my new keywords arent dynamic like fishing reports that are added by members daily. These are more like campgrounds, marinas etc. My thought is to install a Wordpress blog and build out this content so I can efficiently deal with on page SEO. the vBulletin software is installed in the root so I would install wordpress in something like mydomain/lake123/ Is the right thing to do, and will google see multiple sitemaps (one for vbulletin and another for wordpress) and index appropriately? Am I missing something major here? Thanks ~ Brian

Noindex or canonical tag for products which have no unique product description?
I have several ecommerce sites in the same niche and there are a high number of products shared among these sites. I understand that having unique product descriptions for each site may be ideal, but for several reasons this is not an option for the short term. Sales-wise it would be useful to continue products on several sites at the same time. Also it would not be a problem if only the product pages of our main store would show up in the google index. I thought about adding noindex xrobots tag to avoid that product pages are indexed in more than one store to avoid issues with duplicated or thin content or would you implement canonical tag here? What would you suggest?

Prevent Indexing of URLs Based on Tags
I started my website as a blog over at Posterous, but decided to turn it into a full scale business website with a self-hosted WordPress theme. Shortly after transitioning from Posterous to WordPress, I noticed that Google was indexing not only my old blog posts, but the URLs of my blog posts based on the tags they have. Is there any reason why this is a problem? I'm sure it shouldn't qualify as duplicate content, but for some reason it just feels a bit sloppy to me to have all of these pages indexed...Is this a non-issue? Should I just be more discriminating with my use of 'tags' if it bothers me? JiGLH.png

Meta tag "revisit after" - useful?
Hi everybody, I've rarely seen the "revisit after" meta tag during the last 1,5 years. As some of my current client websites are still using it and I'm not sure, if it's still usefull/has any effect, I'd like to hear from the community. Any advices/hints/experiences with the tag? Thanks in advance and cheers from Germany Sven
