Does capliazations in url effect ranking?
-
I've read the info about how Twitter's bad seo effects ability to rank well for our twitter profile in some cases.
I've been unsuccessful at getting my twitter profile to rank higher than it does, even though all metrics on OSE seem to indicate that it should.
I've been linking to the non !#, non https, and non www, version of my profile, however it still is ranking as high as I'd like. I noticed today that the link URL has each letter of my name capitalized. I'm almost certain when I link to it I write out the name in all lower case.
I was curious if you think this has any effect on it ranking? I'm wondering what the best steps would be moving forward. I could start linking to the url showing up in google (with upper case letters in the url) or I could go into my twitter profile and change my name to all lowercase and see if that changes the url in google, thus fixing all of the other backlinks to the profile. (At least I think it would.)
What's everyone's thoughts on this? Thanks!

Intresting.
I know that searching for upper case and lower case keywords do bring up different results. But that is keywords, I wasn't sure how url's were effected by upper / lower case.

My real life experience has shown me that the uppercase and lowercase have no effect on ranking. However, given a choice, i would go with all lowercase as that seems to be the standard.

Can someone clear up social signals as a ranking factor?
I'm aware that Google have addressed this before and specifically said that social signals are not a ranking factor: http://searchenginewatch.com/sew/news/2325343/matt-cutts-facebook-twitter-social-signals-not-part-of-google-search-ranking-algorithms However I came across this (admittedly great) infographic from Neil Patel, an SEO I have a lot of respect for: http://www.quicksprout.com/2014/01/31/how-social-signals-impact-search-engine-rankings/ In the post he specifically states that "both Google and Bing use data from social sites in order to determine how high to rank your website." I have always understood that social signals help drive links by spreading your content to a bigger audience, thereby getting your content in front of people who are likely to link. I also appreciate that content that is shareable is also likely to be linkworthy. However. Neil doesn't talk about correlation here, he talks about social signals as a ranking factor. Is he being misleading, or has the game changed since Matt Cutts said they don't use social signals?

How do we rank 2nd for this keyword
Hello, We want to rank 2nd for this keyword: NLP Training Here's our site: nlpca.com We currently rank near the bottom of the first page. What we have to work with: One top authority person in our field, with a little bit of time to write content, one other top authority person with a little more time, One very skilled employee that has a long history in our field, is not an authority, but writes good blog posts. She writes some of the content, the authorities write the rest. What else we have to work with: We can't really do outreach in this industry as it would be weird to send all of our competitors, which are also our colleagues and friends, link requests. I don't think it would be appropriate to ask people to share or +1 us either. We can produce content, we've added a blog and we're adding a "What is NLP?" Article. We have good video capability. Also, perhaps an infographic would help as a linkable asset, but I don't know what that could be about. Maybe an eye accessing cues infographic - see this page on eye accessing cues - http://www.nlp-practitioners.com/interactive/nlp-eye-access-cues-game.php Basically, there is general knowledge about the differences in eye accessing cues from person to person and culture to culture. I assume we need something to boost our DA. Anyways, your thoughts on how we can move up for "NLP Training"?

Should I adopt Google Plus Custom URLs?
Google Plus have just released Custom URLs, see here So instead of the messy https://plus.google.com/b/012345679 you can have http://www.google.com/+{yourbrandname}. This would be much better for memorizing. But any opinions on added or future perceived SEO benefit?

Would great contents alone, be enough for ranking high?
Hi and thank you everyone for reading this post. Recently I had purchased a business including the domain. The website has been around for over 10 years with some links pointing back to it including couple of links from dmoz. I am in the process of up dating the website but most of the pages are not relevant anymore and thus will not be in the new website. I have couple of questions: 1. Since some of those old pages are getting some backlinks, would it be prudent to keep the url and 301 it to say homepage or another page? I want to work out the best way of utilising the current backlinks. Is this the best way? 2. The website is in a highly competitive industry and I want to add a lot of informative contents. The contents will be well written (professionally) and not for the sake of SEO but for providing valuable information for users. Whilst I'm adding the contents, what would be best way of drawing attention of the potential users to it? If I release the same content as a way of notes in its FB page, would that be considered as duplicate content in the eyes of Google? Or should I just share the link on FB? What are the other mediums available that considered to be effective for sharing contents. I'm also thinking about guest blogging for selected blogs. Would this be an effective way of increasing the authority of my website? I should say that at the moment the site has a PA of 44 for the homepage and DA of 35. Are these numbers OK? Thanks again.

What effect does Google Plus Business Pages have on SEO?
It looks like Google is putting a definite emphasis on social signals, through Google+ anyway. Has anyone tested the effect of social circles on SEO yet? Same effects as the "magical +1 button?" +1 on shifting your time and resources to Social Media?
