Ideas for Redesigning, Relaunching, and Revitalizing a Community of Bloggers
-
As a longtime user (now the owner) of a great site that was down a few times over the last couple of years I am looking for advice on how to let the over 100,000 members that have used us know that we are back and now supported fully by a team of people that love the site and what we stand for (quality, curated content and blog carnivals). We did a complete redesign, removed old carnivals, removed inactive users, deleted lower quality carnivals, and fixed some portions of the site that were less than optimal (aka broken). Should we attempt to email everyone, or let them naturally come back? In case it's not clear, we are from BlogCarnival.com.

The audience is generally pretty savvy which is why I wanted to see what everyone thought (lots of SEO's and very active bloggers). It makes sense to me to get their input, continue to refactor the code, and enhance the site even more. Then, I do really like the idea of working with the most active users to get some testimonials on our support team and the site in general. Thanks! That's exactly the type of advice I was looking for. When I first asked the question I realized it might seem obvious to do an email blast, but we really want to do it right and that usually means taking it slow and being more strategic. Thanks again!

I guess it ultimately depends on the audience but I would say that I would give it a few weeks and generate some sort of written response to the new features/design from the more active users. Then I would include those in an email blast letting everyone know what is different and that they should give it another shot. The testimonials (responses) would garnish much more upfront trust and generate a more positive attitude among those who were disappointed with the way things were handled in the past.
Starting fresh with a soft launch and then with the testimonials of a few, conquer the world! Or something like that.

Developing supporting content for main ideas
I attended Mozcon this year and the session by Joe Hall "Rethinking Information Architecture for SEO and Content Marketing" has me considering some changes to our site structure and architecture. I'm currently putting together a landing page for our webinars but could things like webinars and case studies be considered supporting content to our main ideas? For example instead of my architecture being: home > webinars > webinar about an idea It could be: home > main idea 1 > webinar about an idea So my webinar landing page would link out to all of the different webinar pages on the site instead of being contained in this bucket. Just wanted to get some thoughts on this.

Community Discussion - Are data AND storytelling the missing ingredients for successful content marketing efforts?
Data is an important element of content marketing. Storytelling, too, gets readers' attention and has been shown to be instrumental in prospects and customers forming strong connections to brands. But using data and storytelling helps produce some of the strongest content there is to be shared, says Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré in her latest YouMoz article, Here’s How to Combine Storytelling and Data to Produce Persuasive Content. What are your thoughts? Think data and storytelling work best separately? Read the post are share your thoughts below. RS

Where to find a directory of industry bloggers
Could anyone out there recommend directory sites containing industry specific bloggers or industry specific guest blogs. Always seems very difficult to come by. For example we have written a great article collaborating with a "hardwood flooring" company and would love to get this published. We are in London. Happy holidays to you all 🙂

Using Google Blogger
Hi, On my website I have a specific blog section, which like most people is linked to Wordpress. I have been advised that to achieve better SEO its also a good idea to use Google Blogger, because it will link back to your website from Google. Obviously we don't want to submit the same articles to Google blogger or else that would be duplicated, but is this something that could benefit and is anyone else doing this? Thanks!

Blogger & Blogspot Content - Move Across To Own Domain?
Hey, A few new clients have blogs hosted on blogger & blogspot, the first advice of mine is to set up a blog hosted on their company domain. It's usually easy to convince them of the benefits. What should happen to all the content on the existing blog? One blog in question has over 100 entries, good content with a lot of links back to the business domain. The blog itself has less than 10 links pointing in but a domain mozrank 3.5. In this example, my gut is telling me to leave it as is, and start fresh on the own domain. What about if there's less then 10 posts? At what point should the content be moved over to the new blog? Thanks for your thoughts.
