Anyone using Webtrekk?
-
For months now we have experienced major frustrations with Google's way of running and measuring traffic and providing analytical information.
Although our measuring and segmentation requirements are not unique (I would heavily digress if I describe it) we established with Google Analytics engineers in engagements for more than 2 months, that GA is incapable measuring the traffic we require.
The few products I came across which are capable of providing proper segmentation based on product categories are Kissmetrics (unfortunately not a all-in-one analytics tool), Webtrends (horribly expensive) and I just recently stumbled across Webtrekk (http://www.webtrekk.com/en/products/q3.html).
I was wondering if anyone is using or has used Webtrekk and would be able to share some experience (and how it compares to GA and Webtrends).

I am going to answer my own question
We have been running Webtrekk in a proof-of-concept test for the last few days. If you are familiar with GA's custom-variable-, event and ecommerce-tracking, implementing Webtrekk is straight forward. The major difference (where GA fails miserably for us) is the content aggregation. GA tries to solve this with Advanced Segments or Custom Variables, but fails in the way GA tracks sessions. Webtrekk does this properly and the flexibility you have on filtering is far superior to GA. Data will be calculated on the fly (about 1 hour behind real-time traffic) and accuracy levels are much higher than GA. It is still too early to say if we will go with Webtrekk, but initial signals show that from an analytics perspective it provides more accurate business intelligence than GA. Although I have not had a look at Webtrends (they refuse to run a free POC, but will also cost more than USD 50K/p.a.) I would rank the analytics platforms we tested like this (in order of preference) (1) GA - it's free and as long as you just need indicative figures you are good (2) Webtrekk - paid, but sofar very good (usable) analytics data (3) Webtrends - paid (very expensive and not open to free trials) (4) GA Premium - (paid - super expensive and I don't see any value in it) (5) Kissmetrics - lacks full analytics functionality

Hi,
I have heard about webtrekk but don't know much about it. Looks like another interesting Web analytics tools. It provides all facilities like Google analytic. One major difference is WebTrends trackswebpages including Javascript and Google analytic detect webpage which containing Javascript .
"WebTrends provide multiple methods for generating web traffic analysis reports. This is done using either client-side tracking via a javascript tag included on all of the web site pages requiring analysis, Generation of reports in Google Analytics can only be done via client-side tracking, analysis of your server web log files is not possible with this option."
I want to share this link it contains useful difference between both GA and Webtrends.

Spam using Hostname so filter not working
Hello, on one of our sites, we have filtered via the hostname. We have done this on other sites quite happily but on this particular new website, when we add in the hostname filter, we still get loads of direct and referral traffic which is junk - and the hostname of these junk referrals are the website's domain. So it seems that this filter is not working or the spam are now using the hostname? Not sure what is going on or how to solve this?

Anyone know what LinkedIn Lite is?
For the last week or so I've noticed a steady stream of traffic from "linkedin.com/lite". I don't recall seeing this referral URL previously, but there to one blog post there was more than 10,000 visitors from that referral URL. Since then, the traffic has died down a bit, but other blog posts are starting the get visits from the same referral. The full linkedin URL is just a redirect though, so I can't tell where on LinkedIn the visits are coming from. Has anyone noticed this as well? Or have any insight as to what the Lite is? I thought it was LinkedIn Pulse, but that has a different referral URL (at least the mobile app does). I'm just curious as to where this content is posted so I can optimize and try to get more content there. Thanks in advance for your help!

Can you use an advance segment as a metric or dimension for another advance segment in GA?
I have 3 advanced segments set up: Branded keywords Non-branded keywords (all) irrelevant non-branded keywords. irrelevant non-branded keywords are keywords where the visitor is not ready to purchase. for example keywords including terms such as "ideas" or "how to".. these have generated 0 conversions for us, and I want to track these separately from keywords that have a chance in converting, since the conversion rate between the two groups vary a lot. for the advanced segment "branded" - i listed a listed of keywords pertaining to the company name - using includes, Matching regexp and | (pipe) between keywords for advanced segment "non-branded keywords" - i took the same list and excluded matching regexp | between keywords. **for advanced segments "irrelevant keywords" ** - i took one word as the keyword and used includes, contains, and the keywords.. using OR statement between keywords. pipe doesn't seem to work with the "contains", and only seems to work with "matching regexp". **What i want to do is excluded all items from "Irrelevant keywords" in advanced segment "Non-branded keywords". but i can't seem to exclude based on another custom segment. **nor can I list - [X statement OR (statement y OR statement Z OR statement AB)] any thoughts on handling this logic?

Has anyone experienced Google Analytics track the page visit to a "thank you" page, but not the goal conversion?
Has anyone experienced where Google Analytics would track the page visit to a "thank you" page, but not the goal conversion that should result? The goal had worked for a long time as it is as just a goal url with head match. No funnel. Not case sensitive. For about four days now, no conversions have been recorded, but Google Analytics shows hundreds of people visited the page that should trigger the goal. Additionally, we have received the hundreds of leads. A Screaming Frog search shows the code is embedded throughout the site. For the interested, the GA code looks like (and the 8 Xs are the correct number on the site): Am I missing something?

If I am changing my domain for my website and want to keep using the same Google Analytics account to keep the data from the old domain. How should I proceed?
If I am changing my domain for my website and want to keep using the same Google Analytics account to keep the data from the old domain. How should I proceed? Do I have to start a new Google Analytics account for the new domain? If so how do I keep the old data? Or can I use the same GA account? Thank you.

Has anyone noticed a dramatic drop in direct visits year over year in GA across multiple sites?
I monitor about 10 websites in GA. Many of these sites are in a stable phase of their lifecycle. I've noticed this year that direct visits on all my sites and even friends sites have dropped by 20-60%. Has anyone seen any explanation for this or noticed this when compared to previous year? In every instance I have no penalties, notices, anything and the drop is made up completely of "direct visits".
