Trouble with https
-
A new client of mine utilizes a ssl certificate, so his domain starts with https, it seems to be messing up the seo. I just ran a check with site explorer and if I copy and paste the https url into site explorer, it is not found. when I enter http, I get 1 backlink, no facebook likes and no internal links, all which are totally incorrect. Where do I start to sort this out?, htaccess, and what is the best strategy to take?
Thanks so much for your assistance! Carin

Also should I make not of that redirection in google webmaster account too? Like a canonical redirect can be noted?
-
I would like to redirect all https links that have been built to http and make sure http is always served up, not https as it is now. there is no real need for a secure connection as the forms all just ask for email or phone number, no personal information. right now htaccess shows the following: Any help would be appreciated!
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
RewriteRule (.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} -
I have never done SEO on an https page, but there are quite a few https pages that rank well. Here are some more notes: http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/seo-for-https-with-s-like-secure

I guess it is being redirected in htaccess, he doesn't have a cart its an insurance site, and there is really no need for ssl in my understanding. I have already built links to the https, so I guess I could just redirect them to http. Its worth a try.
But I still don't understand if having https: is a confusing element in seo and dilutes and hides links?
-
The site has been live for a couple of years, I can find it without the https. but the data is not complete. How often approximately does the database update, for facebook and other link data?
-
How long ago was the site launched? I ask this because Seomoz uses a database. What happens if you do a link: www.example.com?
-
Normally I just use https for the pages that require it, like during the cart process. That means the top level pages are http only and SEO isn't affected. Could you do that?

Recovery from a HTTP to HTTPs migration using 302s ?
If a website did an HTTP to HTTPS migration using 302 re-directs, that were corrected to 301s about 4 months later, what is the expected impact? Will the website see a full recovery or has the damage been done? Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this...

Site deindexed after HTTPS migration + possible penalty due to spammy links
Hi all, we've recently migrated a site from http to https and saw the majority of pages drop out of the index. https://www.relate.org.uk/ One of the most extreme deindexation problems I've ever seen, but there doesn't appear to be anything obvious on-page which is causing the issue. (Unless I've missed something - please tell me if I have!) I had initially discounted any off-page issues due to the lack of a manual action in SC, however after looking into their link profile I spotted 100 spammy porn .xyz sites all linking (see example image). Didn't appear to be any historic disavow files uploaded in the non https SC accounts. Any on-page suggestions, or just play the waiting game with the new disavow file? Hku8I

Http resolving to https - why isn't it doing that?
Hi everyone I've just been looking at a few https websites and noticed the http urls weren't redirecting to their https equivalents - why would a website owner not bother redirecting? As an example: http://www.marksandspencer.com I look forward to your feedback. L

Hi Ya'll I'm looking for a company or independent who can transition our website from http to https. I want to make sure they know what they're doing with a Wordpress website. More importantly, i want to make sure they don't break any seo juice from external sources while internally nothing gets broken. Anyone have any good recommendations? You can reply back or DM me. Best, Shawn

Screaming Frog returning both HTTP and HTTPS results...
Hi, About 10 months I switched from HTTP to HTTPS. I then switched back (long story). I noticed that Screaming Frog is picking up the HTTP and HTTPS version of the site. Maybe this doesn't matter, but I'd like to know why SF is doing that. The URL is: www.aerlawgroup.com Any feedback, including how to remove the HTTPS version, is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

SSL Certificate valid for SEO https
Hi everybody! I have talked with my hosting provider and he offers me two kind of SSL. I've read that the best option for SEO is to convert the hole site to https response (not only the payment pages), but my developer team is telling me that this kind of security to the whole site will be negative for all the websites contained under this IP ¡! So I wonder if somebody who has the https implemented correctly and working properly for SEO could recommend me: which kind of certificate is the correct one and what specific things sould I consider with my hosting provider if it's true that could be a disaster if I implement the https to the whole website beacause I'm blocking the robots and it's dangerous for my domains in this server Please, any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

HTTPS sitewide move has resulted in huge rankings drop...
Hi all, An e-commerce site has recently moved protocol to https sitewide. The site ranked page one for some great terms and now appear to be page 2 or below. Brand terms seem unphased and are still very strong, on both Google and Bing. The following has been done; Everything 301'd from http to https Sitemap Edited Updated Webmaster Tools Robots.txt edited Crawled and Fetched all pages daily. Checked Paged are all follow, index. PPC Ads mass updated to new url's. Most terms were ranked 1 - 9 on Bing, and Page 1/2 on Google. HTTPS upgrade was done less than one week ago. The site is not payday loan related, nor was it hit by latest panda escapades. Everything on the site is relevant to the content. Has anybody else been in this position, what else can be done? I'd appreciate any help and advice. Thank You K9gB7hz
