Do I ditch the link building and risk the drop?
-
I am currently on top of SERPS but am worried about some of the links being built by my seo company.
We add loads of content to the site which I think is fine. We have somebody working on the on page and tech side of things which I think is fine. However I am still paying an seo company which basically builds links for me.
Because I am in top spot for many terms I am nervous to turn it off. However I am also nervous that one day I will wake up and we will have been penalized! They do not build many links and they are convinced that google still want to see a varied link profile. If I stop paying then some of the ‘better’ or higher PR sites will no longer have a link to my site and will therefore drop off. We do have a great site with great content so I think we do many things well but I am nervous that these paid for links will be the death of me if I am not careful.
The question is do I get rid of the link building and risk the drop? Or is a small amount of links just to keep the link profile looking Ok and not overdoing it the right move?
Thanks a lot.
Dave

Hi Irving,
Thanks for the reply.
I am never 100% sure they know what they are doing to be honest. We dropped down after Panda but managed to get back up to top spot using:
- content - lots of fresh good content
- some on page changes ( this seo person uses their own software to analyse how our pages as seen. ) This seems good. Very white hat as far as I can see.
- Then I have another seo company that builds links. Some of which look prety bad to me. They justify the not so good links by saying that my 'link profile' has to be varied and these links are needed to maintain that profile.
The trouble is I'm not sure who is responsible for us getting back on the top spot. I am tempted to stop for a few months as you say but we are very seasonal and my season starts in Feb so it could be a big risk.

so you're paying for monthly links and not perm right? That's the problem with month to month deals like that you need to keep going.
You could stop for a few months and see if there is any negative rankings impact, rankings might remain the same.
are u 100% confident that this person knows what they are doing and you won't get penalized?

Value of Links? What is each link worth?
Morning Everyone, I just had this thought and wondered what everyone's opinions were in terms of link value in monetary terms. We'll assume for the purposes of this that the links come from contextually relevant sites and that the sites in question have got the Moz DA from being high quality and have a good quality incoming link profile. Its a bit of a theoretical question, but i guess imagine if the only way you could get links was to pay for them, what would they be worth to you. This is link value for SEO purposes, they will have in addition value from traffic from good sites, that no doubt varies wildly depending on topic. I assume everyone also agrees on: The first link from a domain is the most valuable High DA sites are worth more than low ones. So could anyone who has an opinion on the link value suggest a monetary value for links. Its really just using a monetary amount to see how best to target my time. Here is my example of what might be expected, but I am hoping people with more knowledge will perhaps correct it. DA Rating First Link 2nd-5th Link 5th-10th Link 10Plus Links 5 $5 $2 $1 $0 15 $7 $3 $2 $1 25 $25 $10 $5 $2 35 $45 $20 $7 $3 45 $65 $30 $11 $4 55 $95 $45 $19 $5 65 $200 $100 $45 $6 75 $350 $120 $65 $9 85 $700 $240 $95 $15 95 $1100 $450 $200 $30

How many links per week/month should a link building campaign acquire?
I am running a linkbuilding campaign for my company. I am mostly focusing on guest blogging opportunities and responding to emails from HARO. How many links would I have to acquire each week or month to be considered doing a good job over a 6 month or a year time period? Thank you,

How to link build?
Hello all. I've been having intense conversations with an experienced SEO, who has told me that the only way to get consistent links to your website, and to build you business through the web is through blogger outreach, and then paying the bloggers to put your appropriate content on their high Page Ranking website. To me, this may well be right. But it sounds dull as anything. Any thoughts? William

Should I build links to wordpress category pages?
Hi guys, I'm working on http://www.top-10-dating-reviews.com and planto build links to the category pages - is that the best strategy for a comparison site like this? This is a wordpress site and I read that category pages should be no indexed is that the case? If so then obviously I'd be wasting my time building links to these pages as google wouldn't index them anyway. Any advice on the best strategy for link building would be much appreciated!

Link building- Point us in the right direction
We are currently fixing crawl errors and other on page issues and have taken on board that 'content is king' and have invested a lot of time and resources into writing unique content on each of the several hundred pages on our ecommerce site (not just to avoid duplicate content but add researched content that will hopefully enhance the user experience and allow them to make the best choice of products) and earlier this year started blog writing regular content about updates, industry trends and current events e.g. Euro 2012 (all content relevant to our sector and/or products). So we are actively working to improve our SEO (and also have regularly updated social media accounts with healthy number of followers) but the problem is link building as we work in a sector where the content isn't really all that exciting so getting link backs from sharing our written content is rare and also doing an infographic and/or guest blogs would not bring anything exciting. So how do we go about building white hat links? The only thing I can see is maybe doing press release submissions but from research there is mixed feelings about this. Any advice that could point us in the right direction would be appreciated.

Link Building by Phone?
Is it worth going to the trouble to contact webmasters in person by phone rather than just using email? If so, what has been your approach to link building by phone?

Recommendations for a good outsourced link building partner
Merry Christmas everyone. You shouldn't really be reading this question on Christmas Eve but as you're here... ...I'm looking to outsource most of my link building to a good partner. Can anyone recommend a person or company that they have used in the past who has delivered good results. I have used oDesk in the past and paid peanuts and got appropriate results in return. Poor quality links that everyone else was going after and that disappeared after a few days or weeks. I am very dubious of using these automated link creation sites the web is littered with, and most of them are dodgy link farms or worse. Ideally I would provide a set of keywords each month and the partner would spend their time working on links based around these terms and the content on our site(s). Your comments, suggestions and ideas are all very welcome. Have a fun Christmas everyone Scott.

Hiring a Company for Link Building
I am considering hiring a company to help develop link building for our websites. It is just too time intensive for me and I would like someone with experience to do it. So. . .what are the things I should ask of this company to make sure they know what they are doing and will do it in an ethical manner? What are some things I should make sure that they will NOT do with the links? Any guidance you have on what I should tell the company would be helpful.
