Author Rank for news portals
-
Hello SEOmoz community
I would like to discuss the option of implementing AuthorRank on news portals where content changes daily and the importance and the ''weight'' of that content is measuerd mostly on the breaking news factor.
Content changes multiple times through out the day and there are many authors / journalists who write for that portal, so my questions would be: can AuthorRank have impact on this kind of site?
Did any of you have any experiences with AuthorRank on a big scale sites like news portals and if you would be kind to share some insights.
Thank you in advance!
sincerely,
sinisa

Great reply!
Thank you for your feedback
I must do some further research on how to implement this feature and recieve quality overall... First and foremost - to find an author on my newsite that is active on Google+, has some 'community' impressions and is willing to test this
cheers

_I have not implemented this tag in any news site but I have implemented this in a couple of websites and the impact was impressive.
However, I have found that if the profile is great, I mean if the profile is active in social circles, have a strong Google Plus profile etc. I have found a strong correlation between the number of people have added that profile in their circles and the visibility of the post integrated with that Google Plus profile. Moreover, if you can make some guest posts on some leading sites with that profile and get a link back to Google Plus author page, chances are that the profile will add to the overall visibility of the website in the SERP. I have seen significant increase in ranking in not-so-popular key phrases after the authorship is implemented and of course you cannot rule out the fact that authorship increases CTR in the SERP. _

Yoast News Plugin Extension - Thoughts?
Hello! I'm looking at picking up the Yoast News SEO plugin extension to add to our company's wordpress site. We're a UK manufacturer but have lots of regular news stories (new products, industry info, new projects etc.) that is relevant to our niche market. We'd love to get these stories featured into the Google News feed and this may be a route. Anyone using the plugin? Any thoughts? Thanks

Google News Question
Hi, If you want to submit articles to Google News (& tag them with G News meta tags), even if high quality original content (that's genuinely objective) will all your efforts still be in vain if you include a CTA (call to action) to the websites primary service at the end of the article ? Cheers Dan

I allow authority sites to republish my blog articles, which then outrank me
Hey everyone. This is my first question here, I apologize if it has been covered before. I have a health and nutrition blog [authority nutrition] that has been up since December 1st, 2012. I've managed to write quite a few viral articles which have given me a bunch of natural links and a domain authority of 49, which I think is pretty great for such a new site. Haven't done any link building and everything is 100% white hat. Getting good rankings and good traffic already, so I can't complain. My only (1st world) problem is that sometimes major authority sites (DA of 70-95) republish my content. I always say yes if they ask me first, but some of them just republish without even asking. My articles are always indexed on my blog before they get republished, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. These sites always clearly link to the original URL, but they often tend to outrank me for the keywords I was targeting in the articles. They tend to rank in the top 5, but my original article is nowhere to be found. I plan on continuing to allow these sites to republish as I get powerful links and good traffic from them, but it's a bit frustrating that I don't seem to get the credit as the original source. I've already set up Google Authorship, but it doesn't seem to help. Is there anything I can do to make sure Google recognizes my article as the original and chooses to rank my site instead of the authority site that simply republished my article?

Filling Up Content For A New News Publishing Site
Hello, SEO Gurus. I have a client whom I've been working with for a few months now, and part of our service offering is to publish and promote fresh, daily content on his site's blog. This strategy has been a huge success thus far, he is very happy with the content, etc. Now, he is getting ready to launch a second site, which will be a news publishing site for his industry niche, and we will once again be providing the content on a daily basis: we're going to be producing 10 to 15 articles a day. It's a big operation for us. The client, however, is concerned that he doesn't want the site to appear "thin" on content in the early going, and asked if it would be possible to populate the new site with the articles we wrote on the other site's blog. My gut reaction to this is that it would be an exceedingly bad idea to do this. While we are the ones who authored the original content (and we've used author tags and publishing markup), the best bet is to simply start fresh. Besides that, seeing as we'll be pumping out tons of content on a daily basis, it won't take long to fill up the content coffers. That being said, I just wanted to run this past you all and see if anyone had any alternative ideas on how to use the old content without it being duplicate content. I was thinking that maybe designating all of the old articles with noindex, nofollow could be an option? Many thanks in advance for your time and attention. Sincerely, Mike

Not accepted in Google news.
Hallo, Our website was not accepted by Google news although we are confident that our site meets all the requirements. We see several other gambling sites already appearing within Google News’ pages, and we contend that, in most cases, our reporting is both timelier and more relevant. We hope you can give us any feedback. http://www.hetpokerspel.nl/nieuws Regards, Thijs Weinands

Yahoo News Feed
As part of my site I'd like to repost relevant Yahoo News stories related to my keyword. I have a plugin that will automatically retrieve them each day and put them into draft status so I can make sure they're relevant before publishing them. I plan to make this a separate section and give the appropriate credit to Yahoo News. I'm not necessarily doing this to GAIN SEO rankings but if that came of it, that would be a bonus. Question - would I be HURTING myself by doing this?
