I'm not a SEO, just a small business owner with the will to succeed. When it comes to the Big Links from real sites, (Technorati, Tech Crunch, Slash Dot, ect.) where do you start? How do you begin the process of getting a good article on a great site?
-
There is several ways to obtain links from the big sites, but as you might understand, the less cost involved the more competition you are facing.
Running good PR effort, might get you the attention (and links) from these big sites. Try not to promote your product as much as providing something that has significant news value related to the site you would like to get featured on. It might be a story of how you are helping in the solving of a problem users are facing, it might be funding news - ask yourself what the users of the big site would LIKE to read, and not what YOU would like them to read. Typical mistake in PR campaigns, is focusing on features instead of benefits.
Adding social bookmarking to your website, might help as well, but again ask your self what the USERS would like to share, and not what YOU want the users to share. In the past, providing valuable easy-to-digest content like infographics was the way to go.

Is RU white hat link building possible?
According to my RU content/SEO person all the major websites/blogs in RU asked for payment to post an article... and there is no advice in RU/Yandex for implementing white hat methods. I work for a gaming company, so trying white hat is difficult in any country.... but still seems worth trying. Does anyone have experience or advice about RU link building?

What is the best white hat seo link building strategy?
My goal is to build links that comply with Google's Quality Guidelines. I am wondering what is the best way to approach webmasters or bloggers about submitting guest posts or writing content. I have done a competitive analysis, and have a list of potential link sources, but I am not sure what approach to take next. Any advice or strategy would be appreciated.

Example of a service site using 100% white hat tactics in a competitive niche
Could someone show me an example of a service site that is using 100% content generation/brand building tactics in a boring niche? such as plumbing/electrical/movers, etc. All I see are paid nav/footer links, profile spam, directory submissions etc ranking in every niche. I'm looking for a specific example. Any site will do.

Example of a local "boring-niche" site in a relatively high competition area using strictly white hat tactics
I'm looking for an example of a site in a very boring service niche locally "let's say elevator doors in chicago" or something like that, that successfully using blogging, content generation, etc to achieve top rankings above its spammy competitors. Anyone care to give out a case study? I'm not talking about companies that submit to 100's of local directories like yelp, or google maps rankings. I'm talking about organic or blended serps.

Great idea to get back links in short order; however the links would be unrelated. . Is it worth the effort . BTW, it's a white hat method. Should I proceed?
I have come up with a very creative way to get some great back links using white hat methods. The problem is that the back links to the site would be to an interior page or external promotional website which then have links back to the main website. What kind of value for the main domain would this potentially achieve. What are peopLes thoughts on this idea?

Obtaining followed links - white or black?
I have just watched the overtake of the number one UK position for garden accessories. The old 1st place holder held it for the last 2.5 years (min) ....taking a look at the back links of the number one holder it seems they are paid links ...as they are little follow image adverts with anchor text posted on the home page of niche blogs, forums and design related website.. ....so is this white hat or black hat?
