Would listing an address on a location page for a franchise count as a citation?
-
If a small franchise with 15 locations implemented location pages for each location including address and phone then made them crawlable by the search engines and also accessible through a store locator, would this be counted as a citation for the location?
-
Hi Joshua, Yes, if a totally separate website (like a manufacturer's site) lists your client's NAP (name, address phone number), and lists it in indexable text, that would definitely be a citation. You're very welcome!
-
Thanks Miriam. Yes that is what I was asking. A follow up question would be if that location appeared in a store locator on another site. For example if a manufacturer had a store locator which referenced businesses that sold their products.

Hi Joshua, Are you saying that a business will list each of its 15 locations on its website? If so, I would not consider this as a citation. A citation is what a second party says about the business, not what the business says about itself. If I've misunderstood your query, please clarify.

SEO benefits of terms used in Alt-tag, image name, page title
On our website, we have products that come in different colours, and we have created a different SKU for each one .e.g. our Acacia Evening Dress comes in 3 different colours (black, blue and red) - Acacia Evening Dress Black (J7048BLK), Acacia Evening Dress Blue (J7048RB), Acacia Evening Dress Red (J7048R). Would it be beneficial for SEO if on the image Alt-tag we used the terms 'Jadore J7048 Red Acacia dress', 'Jadore J7048 Black Acacia dress' and 'Jadore J7048 Blue Acacia dress', because 'Acacia' is the internal name we have given to this dress, not the name provided by the label, Jadore, as more customers would search for terms such as 'black dress' or 'Jadore J7048'? Can we use the same terms in the Alt-tag on the image and the page title? How important is the Alt-tag in searching?

Tracking Numbers and Local Listings
Hello all, had a quick question about the pros and cons of claiming a bunch of local listings and using a tracking # on our business profiles with those listings rather than our actual #. Anyone have any insight into whether this is good or bad practice and why? Thanks in advance!

Video on Home page
Would it be good SEO practice to place a video on the home page? http://villasdiani.com Right in the middle of the home page is a text about Villas Diani, I would like to remove it and rather place there always one of our newest videos which will start play once somebody lands there. As we are the only one of our competitor who has also videos of property rentals I would like to make out of it an advantage for our website which is not ranking:-( I am very new to seo and I am very scared to do such move which might even worsen all:-( I will appreciate any help

Ranking top 3 with Geographical Keyword but not on 1st page without it.
Recently I have been working to solve an issue where we rank number 2 for "Web Design Memphis" yet we do not appear on the first few pages for the keyword "web design." Several of our local competitors appear on the first page without the geo keyword. What can be done to solve this issue? I am not searching incognito and Google is recognizing my locality. Why is the competition able to rank on the first page without the geo keyword and we are not? Thanks for your feedback!

Getting a Google Places listing verified on an automated phone system.
I've been having issues getting my Google Places/+ listing verified as we have an automatic phone system. If you call our office you have to dial a number to reach an actual human being or before you can leave a message. Whenever the Google Bot calls we aren't able to receive our Google Place verification code. Currently.. there is no option to send a postcard.. which is weird because for awhile that was the only option. Has anyone had any success on an automated phone system & how did you do it? Thanks!

Home address for service professionals?
I often work with people who are in service industries who do not have a business address (dog sitters, pilates teachers, personal trainers, house cleaners). They often work by going into someone's home to provide the service. However in some of these industries independent contractors compete with businesses who have a brick and mortar location. This presents an SEO challenge when a serp features a 7-pack of local business. When I search "masseuse" I get a 7-pack after a Wikipedia result, and a merriam-webster result. So being in the 7-pack is essential for any real traffic for the term. One solution to this problem is to have the contractors use their home address for their Google places listing, Yelp, etc. Is this a good idea? I'm a little worried about this technique because these independent contractors don't actually bring clients into their homes. Also it would be misleading if someone was searching for a place to go to get a massage instead of having someone come to their home. But the presence of 7pack in a serp really puts these people at an unfair advantage. Would you use a home address? Do you have any other suggestions as to how to level the playing field in these cases?
