How come my stories end up on bbc news
-
Hi, i get a load of traffic from the bbc news website but not sure how this happens.
For example we had a story the other day and according to my reports the traffic was coming from this page. http://www.bbc.co.uk//news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-21232826
but when i checked today to see the page i can see nothing about our story. BBC news has been really good to us for feeding us traffic but i am not sure how this happens as if i did then i would try and get all our stories seen by them.
Any help would be great in understanding how bbc news is picking up our stories
-
thanks for that, i will do on both accounts. Do not get me wrong it is nice to get the traffic from them, just strange that i do not understand how it happens
-
It maybe that they are adding your website under the article in the 'related internet links' section. Set up a Google Alert and you will get emailed when links appear on the website; then you might be able to locate them.
Private message me if you want to discuss further

i have tried looking in the source code but nothing there but i did not check on the day. I was not aware they have different stories on their site but what i have noticed is, it happens alot.
-
Okay, then when you check for your URL on the page how are you doing that? Do you search for your URL in the source code? It would be good to locate exactly where on the page the URL is placed and from there you will have a better idea of how it's getting put there, or rather where to investigate next! The link might not be obvious on the front page, it could be an image link etc.
-
Hi, i do not do any paid for advertising so it will not be that
-
Yes, I had that thought too. Davinia makes a good point.
-
Are you running Adwords?Could be paid advertising on BBC news website that is pushing traffic to your site.
In your traffic report have a look for that URL and filter by a secondary dimension of 'medium'. This will tell you if it is referral traffic or paid advertising. If it is referral then there is (or was) a link to your website on that page. If it is ppc (paid) then it is the Google Ads.
-
Wow! Diane, I am sure there are a lot of SEOs dying to know your secret to this one?
Myself included.
Is it possible that you are producing an RSS feed of your content that the BBC News is picking up and then including in their RSS feed? Just a thought.
Here's an example: http://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml?edition=uk

Thousands of links coming from an iframe
We have an iframed calculator on one website (www.renewablesguide.co.uk) which has a text link to another of our websites (www.solarguide.co.uk) which is where the calculator originates. We allow other sites to embed the calculator which gives us the benefit of a followed link back to our site. However in the case of renewablesguide (which we own) we've added a tab to the calculator on every page which GWT shows up as 24 000 links from this site hitting the Solar Guide homepage. As the link is held within an iframe would this amount of links be seen as spammy?

Can panda penalize News publisher sites?
Hey Guys,I was wondering how Panda behaves with news publisher sites.A site with +-1M visits a day that publishes +-300 news articles a day and the life of each article is one week top, given the nature of a news articles -->only relevant now. After one week the the news articles have virtually no page views. This results on a site with thousands of quality content pages that has no page views for years. Is it possible that the site gets penalized by panda for having thousands of pages with no visits?

Setting up canonical tags for an old site. I really need advice on that darn backslash / at the end of the homepage URL. We have incoming links to the homepage as http://www.mysite.com (without the backslash), and as http://www.mysite.com/ (with the backslash), and as http://www.mysite.com/index.html I know that there should be 301 redirects to just one version, but I need to know more about the canonical tags... Which should the canonical tag be??? (without the backslash) or (with the backslash) Thanks for your help! 🙂

What changes do i need to make to my site to get into google news
Hi, when we had the old design, we were in google news but then when we upgraded our site, we had a major problem which forced us to have to redesign our site. Since then we have not been included in google news and we would like to get back in. We only want to be in google news for the following page http://www.in2town.co.uk/Latest-News-Headlines But for some reason, no matter what we do we keep getting knocked back. I would love to know what we should be doing to get into google news and see what the problems are. We have moved to a bigger dedicated server to increase speed so i know it is not that. Any help would be great Also is there an alternative to google news that i can get our site into to generate traffic and to get our news stories straight out to people Hi, Thank you for your note. Dicas para SEO for large news portals
Hello everybody, how are you? Two years ago I started working with SEO in my town, here SEO is quite restricted, few professionals are aware. I started doing consulting for small and medium businesses today already meets some larger companies. Recently I was approached by a major news portal for presenting a project to work content and SEO best practices along with journalists, web designers, finally, a project that will involve the entire portal. I'd like some tips for working with large portals, which should be prioritized in the first place. Any advice for implementing the SEO culture at last. Who can help with something, I thank Ps: I from Brasil - Fortaleza - Ceará
