Rank dropped for website
-
We have seen rankings drop considerably for www.think-ins.co.uk in the last 48 hours, I know Penguin 2.0 has been released but anyone got any ideas on what specifically we might have been penalised for?
Thanks

Hi,
The drop earlier in the year is linked to the fact that we had a complete rebuild and redesign of the website which led to some of our rankings dropping, we were gradually recovering most of our ranking positions but now have seen them drop off severely.
I have just found that a site we have an advert on (www.jr-leasing.co.uk) has put the advert as a site wide link and this is sending over 17,000 links to our home page, could this be playing a part?
Thanks

Hi!
If you were hit by Penguin, you were hit for external links. You must analyze all your backlinks, especially those that have the exact keyword you lost your position on as an anchor text. Make a list of all the external link that come from spammy looking websites, and try to remove them (you can either contact each webmaster or you can use the disavow tool in GWT).
You should check your Google Analytics report and compare organic traffic from today with organic traffic from 21 Mai. See what keywords were bringing most of your traffic and check if you still have the same position you had in Google before the update.
If you don't know what rankings you had before the update, you can use the search engine optimization report from Google Analytics or the queries report from Google Webmaster tool, like this: compare the average position you have today and the average position you had before the update. Before doing that, make sure you filter out all the data for images and mobile (you want your average position to include only web results).
If you are still unsure, there is one more check you can do: search your keyword on bing. If you have the same position on bing - or relatively similar to the position you had in Google - and you are not even in top 10 in Google, then it means you were penalized. For example you still rank with "motor trade insurance" in Bing.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Hi,
It look like you have an older bigger problem with tjis domain -> http://screencast.com/t/Evo7R77NXN2
As you have a big drop early this year. For the last 48h there is no visibility update yet though and you might be down again.
Cheers.

Some have dropped a few places - part time traders insurance had been 1st for the last couple of years but is now 4th, appreciate this isnt a massive drop but can already see the difference in traffic.
The more alarming change is motor trade insurance was around 38th (recovering after a complete web redesign and build in Feb) but now isnt in the top 200 other than a link to a news article which is still outside top 100.

One of our top visited page (login page) missing primary keyword, does this makes ranking drop of our homepage for same keyword?
Hi all, So, I have removed the "primary keyword" from login page, which is most visited page on our website to avoid keywords in non related pages. I noticed our homepage ranking dropped for same "primary keyword". Visitors of this login page directly land without searching with "primary keyword". Then how removing it from such page drops our ranking? Thanks

Website Penalised | Tips On Recovery?
Hi, I think my website http://rollerbannerscheap.co.uk has been penalised. There are too many over optimised anchor text links with our target keyword 'roller banners' in them. People have linked to our site using our company name 'roller banners cheap' (which also contains the keyword used in my anchor text link building) resulting in too many match links. For a couple months now I have; Added fresh content to the website on a weekly basis, alt tagging images, internal linking and generally making each post very useful. Built a few more external good quality links to try to dilute the over optimised anchor text links. Added more content to the home page. At the moment I am trying to rank for cheap roller banners because I am already on page 1 for that and it seems that keyword hasn't been penalised. Can anyone please advise or recommend what I can do to recover from being penalised or help rank the new key word? I am really stuck with this now and would really appreciate the help. Lewis

Do links from unrelated sites dilute your rankings for your key phrases?
do links from unrelated sites dilute your rankings for your key phrases? i've always heard don't get links from unrelated sites but if that mattered, then how would sites with totally diverse pages such as newspaper sites, sears, and other catalogue sites rank for these diverse subjects on their site? How does Facebook rank when it gets 100,000 links a day from sites that have nothing to do with a social media site? I'd love to hear everyone's opinion on this. Also, Do links from unrelated sites give less push than related links? Take care,

Privacy page ranking above home page in serps
I'm using OSE to try and get some clues as to why my privacy page would rank higher than my home page. Could anyone help me figure out which metrics to review to rectify the issue? My key word is: Mardi Gras Parade Tickets The url that is ranking is www.mardigrasparadetickets.com/pages/privacy I'm happy to be ranking in the top 3 for the keyword, but I'd rather hoped it wouldn't be my privacy page. Any help would be awesome, Cy

Traffic dropping after blog was added...
We have a major client that gets over a thousand organic visits per day. They also self manage an adwords campaign that generates a few thousand clicks a day. Lat summer they got a new website with a blog. The blog has a couple of teaser paragraphs on the home page with the new blog posts, in addition to lots of static text about the items sold on the site. What has happened is, our organic traffic has changed form the main keywords of what the site sells, to things talked about in the blog. Traffic hasn’t dropped dramatically, but we have lost all our big keywords, for example, a keyword that was generating 40 organic clicks per day a year ago we receive no traffic for now, and much more obscure keyword combinations from the blog are being picked up. Is it the addition of the blog that is causing this problem, or the blog teasers that are on the home page of the site? We like the traffic from the blog terms, but we would like our former main keyword traffic back as well, how can we accomplish this, and what do you think has occurred here? Thanks for your help.
