How have they done that? DA20 site in p2 for very competitive search term
-
Not sure whether to actually name the term and site in question, but basically it is a very big term for a popular type of home furniture.
Since the algo change, there is a site thats appeared in p2, right behind the market leader in google uk. The site has a domain authority of 20, and only 84 links - none of which even have the anchor text in question, and infact well over 90% have the same anchor text which is related but different to the search term.
The search term appears on the home page 3 times - once in a 120 character+ keyword stuffed home link title, once in a 100 character+ keyword stuffed h1 tag that isnt even visible on the home page and one in a paragraph that is visible.
The site is badly made and buggy, but its outranking John Lewis, Dunelm Mill etc - very big players in the UK market. How on earth does that work? They are doing so much google tells you not to and winning big rank!? What is Google doing?
-
sorry you're absolutely right that h1 is visible. looks stuffed to me though!

First, it looks like Google is considering "oak furniture" synonymous with "oak beds" since they are bolding the word "furniture" even though i searched for "oak beds". This is pretty common, but that would answer your questions about anchor text and keyword use.
I see the H1 tag on the page. It isn't too terribly keyword stuffed compared to a lot of sites out there. It isn't hidden. As you can see, Google crawls that bit of text just fine:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Xim_4vDniwMJ:www.oakfurniturewarehouse.co.uk/+oak+beds&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ukI agree that their link profile does not seem good enough to merit the #2 position for such a competitive phrase, but links are not the only thing that matter. Searching on the Google.co.uk site means their ccTLD is going to help them over John Lewis and Dunelm Mill for that particular ranking factor. They may have really good user experience metrics, which we can't really tell much about. Above all, the site is very relevant since it has "oak furniture" in the domain and is specific to "oak" furniture, whereas some of the other sites sell lots of other types of furniture. I notice the #1 site is also oak-specific, has oak furniture in the domain, and is on a .co.uk ccTLD.
The truth is there is no way of knowing what exactly they are doing to rank above another site since there are so many variables, both known and unknown. However, from what I could see there isn't anything overtly spammy or blackhat going on, and the fact that they rank well for that phrase is certainly not outside of the realm of possibility.

just checked ahrefs - and as usual it shows more links than OSE, but a rapid recent decline and same story - no anchor text matching the search term.
Ok, ill give it up - search term is 'X!X!X!X!' and the site is X!X!X!X!X! (removed)

Hey there
Without knowing the keyword or the website, I can't give you a definitive answer.
But it may be a case that Open Site Explorer has not detected all of the new links yet - OSE updates roughly bi-weekly, and it takes a little longer for those discovered links to make their way into the index.
So you might be able to get the info soon. If you have access to MajesticSEO or Ahrefs - you'll probably be able to see the information now, as they update their indexes hourly.

Spam Links sent to my site.
Hello, I'll try to be concise as I can. I run a coupon codes site.
Link Building | | affigroup
Today when I loggein in webmaster tools I noticed many new links to my website. And all to a single page. (mydomain.com/stores/companyname).
I tend to think that spam was made by the person who owns that company because he/she used achors related to his bussiness rather than the company name + coupon or company name + discounts. Besides the fact that these links have no value and created automatically by software there are also links from pornographic websites. (bet he paid someone on fiverr for link building and made my website tier 1) I was thinking of 2 options:
1. I remove that page from my website. (mydomain.com/stores/hiscompany) and use disallow. Not sure I can find all the links poiting to that page.
2. Redirect that page mydomain.com/stores/company to hiscompany.com so he can enjoy his spam. I would appreciate if someone can answer me.1 -
Link on Every Wordpress Portion of My Site?
I have a website that is pretty popular with good SEO rankings. Part of the site is ran with Wordpress (homepage, articles and static content pages), another part is the forums using vBulletin (probably 75-80% of the pages on the site) and I also have a directory using another software. I have a new website and was going to add a link to it on my older site on the sidebar of Wordpress across all the Wordpress pages. Should I stay away from that or just put it on the homepage? The text is basically "Come check out the new {keyword} site at {SiteTitle}, by the founders of {OldSiteTitle}. I would have the keyword and sitetitle linked over to the new site. Would I be hurting either site by doing this or should it be looked at as a natural link as I do own both of the sites and want to let people know about the new site.

Linking back to a high authority site
I have an odd situation. One of our most powerful links comes from a not-for-profit whom we have an advertisement with. That ad gets us half of our business. Recently, they slipped for the term that got them the traffic that flowed to our site. I was thinking of linking back to that page to boost them up a bit. Their page is a deep page on a high authority domain with only a few links. I am an authority site for my niche. I'd like to boost them up without diminishing my rank for other related terms. I'm willing to consider linking to them from my homepage, blog or link page. To play it safe I could just link build to them from outside my domain. Can I just link to them and its not a big deal?

Link building for a product review site
I'm doing SEO for a product review website, and I'm curious what link building opportunities are best for this category. Assume only the following: The website is basically a blog Most of the articles are reviews on cosmetic products, though there are also articles regarding news, product roundups, tips&tricks and similar content The website is in a local, non-english language Disregarding low-value opportunities such as directories, what kind of websites should I aim for outreach purposes? So far, I'm thinking the following: Product manufacturers (very low success chance, as the review site is fairly new and in a localized language) E-commerce sites selling the products (average to low success chance, since a lot of them use CMSes that might not allow integration of a review) Other cosmetic blogs, particularly for guest blogging (average to low success chance, since the website is fairly new) Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!

Open Site Explorer Changed?
I am getting this at the bottom of Open Site Explorer. I have never seen this message before. "Why does my number of inbounds links listed not match my total links count? The listed number may be slightly different because we only show 25 links per domain (so that you see a variety). Additionally you have 18 links from no-indexed pages. Unfortunately, we can't get info for those links." Did SEOMoz change something? If I look at a site, SEOMOZ's OSE doesn't show me all the links it can find anymore? It only shows 25 max???

Is there a software to help me check whether the sites that i give link to, also place my link on their site (reciprocal link)?
When i exchange links with others, i usually put their link on my site hoping that they'll do the same. Since it's impossible to check all sites whose link i have placed on my page to see if they have put a link back to me, i was wondering whether there is a kind of software to help me do that!

Google search engine questions
I'm new in SEO, so sorry if i ask already discussed questions. After some search I still have questions that i need to confirm if i am right: 1. Google calculate only first link from some domain (for example domain1.com) on some page (domain2.com/page1). So this is good to create other link on page domain2.com/page2 but no reason on domain2.com/page1. Right? 2. Plural and singular forms of search words. We can be top ranked for plural form and out of top50 for singular form. What is best practise to be top ranked for both? 3. Google images. We have changed image file names and added alt and title option. There are any other way to go on top?
