How can I easily track multiple keywords for multiple pages?
-
We are creating landing pages to target keywords, and would like to be able to have something set up so at a glance we can see each page's rank for its targeted keyword.
For example, if we have pages with the URLs of example.com/sites/purple-widgets, example.com/sites/purple-widgets-for-cheap, example.com/sites/cheap-purple-widgets, etc., we'd like to see the rank of each of those pages for their respective keyword ("purple widgets", "purple widget for cheap", "cheap purple widgets", etc.).
Any suggestions?

Hi Brandon,
I guess the part I dont understand is why you need to create a new campaign for the /widgets/ part specifically, the overall campaign for example.com will cover all sub folders and sub pages. So you can just set up the main campaign, create as many keywords as you like and label them for easy filtering into logical buckets (widgets, purple, brand, whatever suits). Then all pages in example.com will be tracked for these keywords and whichever page is highest ranked for each keyword will be shown in the main ranking page. If you have any other pages ranking for the same term but lower, they will be visible in the ranking history page. Hope I am not missing something obvious!

Let me backtrack for a second..
We currently have pages that are the equivalent of example.com/widgets/[brand]/[color], but no page for just example.com/widgets. We simply haven't built it yet, plus we don't have a proper site structure in place to be crawled due to our website being a web app.
That said, we have started to build these landing pages for "widgets" of different types, but before we put the proper site structure in place and begin any link building efforts around them, we'd like to be able to track their ranking for their keywords.
My hope is once a proper page is built for example.com/widgets/, we can create a new campaign on Moz and track the keywords from there. Is this true? Is our thinking completely off from what we should be focusing on?
Thanks again!

Hi Brandon,
Not sure if I am understanding the question right but: Usually the top ranking page would be the targeted landing page so in this case could you not just set up the keywords/phrases, group them with a 'purple' label to easily filter and the top rankings shown will be the highest ranking page from your site? If you wanted to check if any of the other pages are ranking for the same phrase you can click through to the ranking history where if all 3 of your pages were ranking for one of the terms say in position 3, 10 and 20 you would see all three pages in the history graph and rolling over the points shows the ranking and the specific page in that position. Is something like that what you were after?

Should I create additional pages for to try to rank for alternative keywords?
Hi I have my primary product page https://www.planacademy.com/primavera-p6-training/ - that ranks well for and is optimized for "primavera p6 training". However, I'd the same page to rank well "primavera p6 online course". Do I create another version of this page optimized for these different keywords? Or do I try to get the 1 page to rank for both? A bit confused here as to what to do. Thanks.

Pages optimised for similar subjects...?
Hello all, I am currently trying to get the company I work for ranking better (surprise, surprise) in the search engines. We operate in the Internet Services sector and I'm having a little trouble with some of the sections on our website.

I suspect that some of the problem is that certain pages are trying to sell the same product while being optimized for different things. An example of this is our ADSL Broadband - The product itself has a rolling contract (so basically a no contract service) so I have optimized a page for short term / no contract terms. This page is not the 'main' page for the product (more of a gateway page / an attempt to catch people in the SERPs) and as such, one of the main benefits (probably the better of the benefits) of the product has been used for a 'No Contract Broadband' page. This leaves me slightly stuck for optimization for the main page so I suppose the short version of my question is... Should I optimize one main page or split the benefits out into multiple gateway pages - each focusing on a different benefit? Is it wise to dilute content in this way? Does that make sense?0 -
Keyword Ranking Research Question
Hi Mozzers,This is probably a nooby question, but I was wondering how you guys end up deciding if a Keyword is too hard to rank for? Also vice versa, when do you decide that a keyword is too low volume to rank for so you try to rank for a harder keyword? Eg.

Deciding that ranking for "Dell Computers" is too hard and then deciding to rank for "Dell Small Business Computers" Post-question: Do indirectly rank for Dell Computers if you try to rank for Dell Small Business Computers? If so, how much? Also, how many words inbetween Dell & Computers would there have to be to stop indirectly ranking for Dell Computers?1 -
Creating a new page versus adding to existing page (for targeting a keyword phrase)
What are your considerations when deciding whether to create a brand new page versus adding content to an existing page when targeting a new keyword phrase on your site? My thought is that if it is mildly competitive, a new page would make more sense since you can optimize the title tags and URL. But if it is long tail and low competition, you would be better off to add a paragraph to an existing page to minimize diluting your website by adding more pages.

Suggestions for RU Keyword Research
Does anyone have suggestions for a better RU keyword tool than Yandex and/or is there a way to see exact searches in Yandex's keyword tool? It seems like the data is not at all accurate. For example - we are ranked #2 for a keyword which has over 40,000 monthly searches (searches according to Yandex keyword tool and position confirmed with someone doing a manual search in Russia). However, we are not getting any traffic for this keyword and according to Yandex webmaster tools the keyword only got 10 impressions this past month. Any ideas for me... or would using Google be preferable eventhough people in Russia don't really use Google?

Keyword search tool or API
Anyone have a suggestion for a simplistic (scaled down) version of a keyword research tool that I can put on our website? We need our clients to be able to perform some basic keyword research on their own without getting lost in the details of something too robust. We would like to control aspects of the tool, capture the data from the site visitor and move those results (from their searches) into a database or other web application.

Spammy Industry Keyword Research
Hi everyone, First question posted on here. I have spent a lot time this week going through videos and discussions since I signed up here earlier this week. We're just starting in a particular niche that is powerful (home-based businesses), but EXTREMELY spammy with all the at-home opportunities from stuffing envelopes, to MLM, etc. Then there's the other side which is not as spammy, but just not an overall good business model with the in-home Tupperware, candle, and makeup party sales companies. The people that we help and serve are just people who want to start up a part-time or full-time home-based business doing what they love. Maybe it's a dad who loves golf and would like to start a golf store on Ebay or a lady who is great at making stuff and wants to open an Etsy shop or start selling her goods at craft fairs. Our program is more about teaching them how to start a real home-based business that can either earn them a profit either part-time or fulltime while also doing what they love and spending time with their family. My biggest question right now as we begin the Keyword Research and SEO process part of this, is how do we go about doing the keyword research for this while also dealing with a spammy niche? All the research I've been doing for home-based businesses comes back to all the ugly examples I gave above and that isn't the type of people that we're a good fit for. I appreciate all your help and guidance in advance. Been doing web development for 10+ years but finally taking the tiger by the throat and actually learning the SEO/SEM piece myself.

Most Important Keyword Term
Question about a sites most important keyword term. So lets say you have a website and your most important keyword term is "Blue Widgets", you also have a page named "blue-widgets.htm". What do we do with our index page in this instance? Especially for the title tag? Should I put "Blue Widgets" in the title tags of both pages? I'm guessing this would be a duplicate meta tag error? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
