Blog Analytics broke for two weeks. How do I account for these hits in my monthly report?
-
The Analytics on my blog broke for about two weeks before I realized it. I need to come up with some estimated numbers for total pageviews, referrals, direct hits, etc to add to my monthly SEM report. I took the average of the past four 2 week periods to come up with the number of hits. Should I just add this number to the total hits on my site? Or are these hits being counted twice if they went on to the main site?

You could take some averages of the same time frame over the last few years if you have the data, for instance compare:
8/1/12 through 8/7/12 to 8/1/11 through 8/7/11 and 8/1/10 through 8/7/10
From there take the average increase/trend and forecast it for the missing weeks. Finally for some quality control measure it from the few weeks leading up and the few weeks after to ensure you are still close.
Other than that i would go with the "honesty is the best policy" approach.

If you plan on using this data for other projects internally, I wouldn't do it. But if your boss just wants a rough idea and the data isn't being used towards anything. I would take the 2 weeks from the previous month. There is no exact size and doing it any way will create an inaccuracy.
If you use another SEM software like Marin, you can find out how much traffic was pushed through by the number of 'clicks' during that time. It should give you a good idea on traffic which will allow you to calculate the an estimate on pageviews and other KPI's.
If you are doing SEM and not running another program to assist you, get on it quickly. It will save you a ton of time and increase ROAS.
Hope that helps.

No, I'm in house. I told my boss and he wants me to estimate based on the past periods

If this is for a client website. I'd be honest and come clean to your clients, let them know that your Analytics broke.
Your clients might be using the SEM report for other projects internally and inaccurate estimates might effect other projects they are working on.

Does Google need Analytics installed to create metrics?
Hi Mozers, Does Google know time on site, number of page visits, bounce rate, etc. even if Google Analytics is NOT installed? Does it measure all that stuff anyway, and if you install the GA code on your site, that is so that YOU can see those metrics? OR can Google only see those metrics if you install GA on your site? Thanks! Jane

Problems with analytics, conversation data and assisted conversions
Hi guys. Having issues with analytics. Firstly, it doesn't record all our sales accurately. My boss downloaded a sales report directly from our site, and it doesn't match up to the analytics, our actual sales were significantly higher than Google analytics was reporting (by about a 1/3). Any idea why Google is missing so many of the conversions? Also, I'm trying to work our how many assisted conversion we are getting from our ad words campaigns. I've been looking through our top conversion path data to try find conversions that started with a paid click. However, I seem to have some inconsistencies. We have only one ad words group that is on the display network (Re-marketing V1 Ad group 1) , and according to analytics we have a conversion from it (See Screen shot 1). However, there is no record of this in our ad words data. (See screen shot 2). This is over the same time period. I don't know what to take from this. Can anyone help? Isaac. /specifictextstring/anytextstring/anytextstring**phonecall

Google Analytics Goal Tracking Not Working
I am trying to install goal tracking for a client to measure leads from SEO, and I'm running into problems with the Google Analytics goal tracking not working. The only thing that I can think of that is preventing goal tracking from working is that the URL confirming page request URI looks like "contact/#contact-form-4475" and perhaps the hashtag is causing problems. I wanted to ask the community if any of you have run into basic conversion tracking problems like this, where you need to track form fills on a website via a confirmation URL/destination URL goal, and what you did to solve it? I appreciate any input on how to get data on conversions either by fixing the goal in GA or using a different tracking tool. Thanks!
