Google Brand Preference- Real Estate Industry
-
So the changes in the Google algo over the last 2 months has ruined most real estate oriented SERPS. I used to rank very well for all of my chosen local real estate keywords. Google pretty much serves up Zillow, Realtor.com, Trulia, Remax(corporate), Century21(corporate), ERA(corporate), and Exit(corporate) for every high traffic real estate serp. It's pathetic. Literally useless to searchers.
Zillow, Trulia, and Realtor.com have always been contenders. Now they just dominate. They were always front page, now they are top three in every high volume real estate serp nation wide.
The truly disheartening thing about the update is that it's putting franchise websites in the top rankings that in many cases don't even have a local feed to real estate. So users cant even search properties, but Google's brand is putting them above all the local franchise offices. So if you are a Remax office, Remax's official site is beating you on your local real estate keywords. The corporate site doesn't even relate at all to the local search.
I described the issue. I could use the next five sentence to cry about my lack of faith in G anymore, but I won't.
How does one compete with brands like Zillow for local keywords. If anyone has a local realtor client that competes against Zillow, Trulia and Realtor.com, I am willing to pay you for consultation.

Hi Joseph,
I definitely feel you on this! I hope you'll hear back from someone who can show you measurable results of a small real estate agency managing to run with the big boys, but my take on this is that many of Google's local-oriented SERPs right now are very narrow in terms of brand diversity. Something I've been noticing for the past year or so is how dominant Yelp has become for practically any local search term relating to restaurants, hotels and a ton of other searches. Pretty much any search in these areas returns Yelp results, but few other directory-type results. There used to be more diversity, in my opinion, and it's almost as if Google had tightened their belts. I'm going to actively watch this thread to see if you get a response from someone who is specializing in real estate SEO in case they can provide some screenshots of their small business clients managing to outrank the giant/aggregate sites. Crossing my fingers for you!

Brand name not ranking in Google
Hi Moz'ers, Could you help me with something I cannot seem to figure out by myself. In June 2017 my company started a rebranding campaign. We've changed our brand name and launched a new website: https://spotler.com. Everything is going fine, but if you Google our brand name "Spotler" our website doesn't show up. How can it be? Our domain authority is 38. It would be wonderful if you could help me. Let me know if you need more information. Best, Simone

Google Search Console Crawl Errors?
We are using Google Search Console to monitor Crawl Errors. It seems Google is listing errors that are not actual errors. For instance, it shows this as "Not found": https://tapgoods.com/products/tapgoods__8_ft_plastic_tables_11_available So the page does not exist, but we cannot find any pages linking to it. It has a tab that shows Linked From, but if I look at the source of those pages, the link is not there. In this case, it is showing the front page (listed twice, both for http and https). Also, one of the pages it shows as linking to the non-existant page above is a non-existant page. We marked all the errors as fixed last week and then this week they came up again. 2/3 are the same pages we marked as fixed last week. Is this an issue with Google Search Console? Are we getting penalized for a non existant issue?

Google not taking Meta...
Hello all, So I understand that Google may sometimes take content from the page as a snippet to display on SERPs rather than the meta description, but my problem goes a little beyond that. I have a section on my site which updates everyday so a lot of the content is dynamics (products for a shop, every morning unique stock is added or removed), and despite having a meta description, title and receiving an 'A' grade in the MOZ on page grader, these pages never show up in Google. After a little research I did a 'site:www.mysite.com/productpage' in Google and this indeed listed all my products, but interestingly for every single one Google had taken the copyright notice at the bottom of the page as the snippet instead of the meta or any H1, H2 or P text on the page... Does anyone have any idea why Google is doing this? It would explain a lot to me in terms of overall traffic, I'm just out of ideas... Thanks!

Google Places Listing Active In Two Seperate Google Places Accounts?
Hi is there any issues with having a google places listing in two seperate google places accounts. For example we have a client who cannot access their old google places account (ex-employee had their login details which they can't get) and want us to take control over the listing. If we click the "is this your listing" manage this page button - and claim the listing, will this transfer the listing to our control? Or will it create a duplicate? Are there any problems having the listing in different separate accounts. Is it a situation in which the last person who manages the listing takes control? And the listing automatically deactivates from the old account? Do all the images remain aswell? Thanks,

Google Phone Numbers
What process is performed to get a company's phone number to show as "A" on google maps. Google displays the phone number for the company on the map as "A" first. It would be beneficial to get that position. Is there a sub-category of seo that does this? Thanks in advance!
