XCart Directory 301s Not Working
-
I'm working with someone to make fixes to an xcart site but I'm at a loss for some fixes. Some directory URLs had been changed around on their ecommerce site to make them more descriptive & more human friendly. The problem is that according to the team's coder, simple redirects won't work for the directories and mod rewrite and redirectmatch didn't work for some unknown reason.
I don't really know anything about xcart. I've made some basic changes and redirects before though their admin panel but I don't have any clue as to how to make directories 301 properly. Any insights? Thanks!

Their coder will be taking a look at it when he's freed up the time to see if there's a way to do that. Hopefully its something easy like that and doesn't require numerous workarounds to get going.

I don't know anything about xcart, but I know that some cms turn off htaccess, such as joomula, there may be a interface to turn it back on.

How long does it take for canonical tags to work
How long on average does it take for a canonical tag to work? Understand that canonicals are just a suggestion, but after adding a canonical tag and submitting the page via Google fetch, assuming Google follows the canonical, would you expect it to work after a day or two or does it take longer? We added canonicals to old PPC landing pages that are ranking organically, though our new landing pages (which we want to rank organically) are not identical and have a bit more content/features. They are similar though. Canonicals were added to the old pages (pointing to new pages) and requested indexing via search console. Old pages are still ranking and new pages not so much. FYI we are unable to 301 old PPC pages due to other non negotiable reasons unfortunately. Thanks.

Best directories for a new(ish) hospital to be listed on?
Just thought I'd throw this question out to the Moz community. Anyone have leads for good, credible directories where I could get a smaller, local hospital listed on? (besides the obvious ones like HealthGrades, etc.,) Thanks!

Is it good practice to still pay for Best of the Web Directory (BOTW) and other similar one's you have to pay for?
I know that paid for links are hit by Google, but in the past these directories were okay. What about now? Thank you.

Wordpress vs. home grown directory
I just moved my blog from a wordpress hosted solution to my owner server and am really hopeful that all the SEO ready wordpress pages plus I downloaded Yoast SEO will move my site. I started with 9000 pages being moz indexed with tons of errors eyerywhere, I have almost fixed everything getting ready to do a google index. One question. I have a directory of businesses and events for my local mountain community that is home grown with about 200 pages. see here: http://www.destinationbigbear.com/directory/bigbeardirectory.aspx which has a PA of 21 which is the same as my DA 21 (I know terrible)... Should I migrate these 200 pages with images to wordpress to take advantage of all the nice SEO possibilities? I have staff and it would probably take about $600 bucks to do it. I would only have to put about ten 301's such as http://www.destinationbigbear.com/directory/contentcat.aspx?ParentID=7 would be http://www.destinationbigbear.com/big-bear-restaurants/ Thank you again to all, I am hopeful I can answer some questions in the future for people... I am learning alot! Nick

The search button on my site no longer works. Any fixes?
I have a wordpress site (can be found at theFlooringGirl.com). On all the pages, there is a search button so you can search for words on the site, but it no longer seems to work. My original webdesigner put it in, and I can't seem where to find it/where to edit/fix it. I finally found something that mentions "search" in the widget section and it is in the tool bar, but I can't find where/how to edit/fix it. BTW, I do have two other smaller sites that have this button and it still works there...so if I could find where to edit, I could theoretically copy and paste the code...if I knew where). Any advice? Thx.

Pagerank and 301s
Hi all For various reasons some of our pages were renamed from: http://www.meresverige.dk/rejser/malmoe to: http://www.meresverige.dk/rejser/malmo We have made proper 301 redirects and also updated sitemap.xml accordingly. The change was done about 5th of September. The content on the pages remain identical. This page, and all pages below it in the structure now get very low or no page-rank at all. Much lower than it was before the name change. Any ideas to how long, if ever, it will take for Google to transfer the page-rank from the old page? Any suggestions to what we can do to make the process faster?

Website Structure - What works best for passing the Link Juice?
As most people know it's usual that the main menu is after the top right small links in html. My questions are: What is more important for google or how does google tell which link is more important than the other to pass juice on? If the top right links are in front of the main menu in html would they get more link juice than the main menu? Should i focus in working on better html structure but still keeping the same look ( reverse the html code but keep the same look through css)? Any suggestions?
