Best Place for Share Buttons
-
Does anyone know of any research on this? Or has anyone tested this out themselves?
-
Interesting article - thanks for sharing

Here is a "best practices" page on the AddThis site....
https://www.addthis.com/help/best-practices
They recommend "top of the page" and recommend against "below the fold".

You could install a trial of clicktale's mouse tracking and collect visual evidence of how users interact with your site. This could indicate where the share buttons would be best placed. http://www.clicktale.com/product/mouse_tracking_suite

Thanks for the answers, there were good points for all three options (top, side, and bottom). I'll have to think about it now and check out other blogs, then probably take a step back and think about how users will see my site and go from there.
-
Immediately after the main content. This is exactly where your reader will end up at the point when they will decide whether to endorse the content with a share. Don't make them think, or search. Make it quick and simple - if they have to search for it - or they find it in an area that could relate to another section of the site they won't click it and you will lose the opportunity.
I see a connection between social bookmarking/share buttons and post comments too and as such this reinforces my thinking that immediately after the main content is the intuitive placement position.

I think that a lot of people share based upon first impressions.
Huffpost has the share (for the article) in the content at top left (they have shares for the domain at top and bottom of page).
CNN has the share at top and bottom of article.
Google blog has at top and bottom.
There are some sites that might have a good handle on how their visitors behave.

I can't decide how I feel about these kind. A part of me doesn't want the buttons to follow me around the page but it doesn't matter what I like, I just need to figure out what the majority of readers prefer.
-
I probably should have specified that it was on blog posts, I would have thought that the best place would be right after the content or the side ones that Steve mentioned so that the user wouldn't have scroll back up to the top to share it. Does knowing that I meant blog posts change what you would suggest or would you still say the big centered ones at the top of the page?
-
Just personal preference for me but I like the ones that come out of the side, like the feedback tab on here
See sidereel.com to see what I mean.
-
I have tried several different styles....
--- the sleek share button at top of left navigation
--- the like-tweet-share buttons at the top of articles
--- and the big 32x32 buttons centered in the top of the page header
What has gotten the most action for me is the big 32x32 buttons centered in the header of the page.
We are using buttons for facebook, twitter, email, print, favorites and share. On retail sites where sharing numbers are low we are not showing the counts... but on an info site with really high traffic and healthy count numbers we display the counts.
I am really surprised that addthis does not have a "best practices" page on their site that shows the best ways to earn shares.

Hi, on SEO article submissions, do I only include the link to the page I am trying to promote or is it best practice to also include a link to home page or parent page?
Good day. I am writing articles for submission, I would just like some help with the page structure. Do I only include the link for the page that I would like to promote or is it advisable to include other page links, such as home page or the parent category too? Any help would be appreciated

Best Guest Blogging Plugin?
I have tried numerous times to use the MyBlogGuest plugin on my websites I manage for clients. I have NEVER had success with that plugin. Has anyone used that plugin and have it actually yield any results? I have followed all necessary steps, consistency, etc. Nothing. Is there any plugin out there better?

Best way to handle blogs for a customer with a chain business?
I have a new customer who owns three local gyms. Each one has its own unique url. I intend to do some blogging for him, and would like it to be effective for SEO. Obviously, publishing duplicate content is out, but writing tons of new posts each month is beyond our scope. Would you recommend having one separate blog (with its own url) that is linked from each of the 3 main sites, or would it be better to create a blog on each site and alternate publishing articles on each one, putting a unique intro and link to the main post on the other two?

Best SEO Approach for Scanned PDFs
I've just found a large number of great technical papers that we have written over the years. They are all scanned pdf's but still relevant. Currently they exist as a download but it seems to me that as each is approximately 5000 words of unique content we ought to be able to get some mileage out of them So I'm thinking of OCRing them, editing and putting them up as blog post with lots of links (10 - 20 max over the post length) to product pages (as it discusses a lot of the technical aspects underlying the products). Is this the best way of maximising benefit from them? Are there any other ways that would be good to use them?

Company blog relaunch. Best practices with Google Algorithm updates in mind?
We have a company blog living on our corporate domain. The blog contained many posts with keywords and we believe google is penalizing us for over optimization as we use to be ranked in the top 5 for our main keyword now we're on page 8. Keeping this in mind, we are planning to relaunch the blog and we wanted to get some tips on best practices that addressing the following questions. Should we archive _all _of our previously published content and start fresh with this relaunch? Should we keep 50 or so published blogs visible? Where should this blog live (on our domain or a wholly separate domain)? We'd love to get thoughts and opinions, and any insight about best practices for a blog relaunch.

Best way to publish FAQs to capture long tail traffic?
If you want to target long tail traffic from commonly asked questions what is the best way to publish answers to these questions? A really long FAQ page, a new page for each question in a /faq/ subfolder, adding them to relevant product pages that already exist? Is creating a new page for each question a problem because the answer might be a paragraph and Google doesn't like thin content?

Can I share share my content with other sites either as a individual post or RSS or will I be encourage duplicate content on the web and upset Google
Hi, I have a new site http://www.homeforbusiness.co.uk. I want to encourage traffic to the site by sharing some of my content with other related websites which have a higher PR ranking and traffic for a link to my site. Is this going to upset Google re-duplicate content and devalue my site and stop any organic rankings in the future? Equally some high PR sites which have a good synergy with mine such as http://thewomensbusinessclubs.com/ allow me to add my RSS feed with their blog network. Is this a good thing to do or not for the same reasons as above? Or can I only do the above my creating fresh content? Thanks, Elizabeth Conley

What's the best way to include a pdf in your post?
I have some posts where I'd like to include a downloadable pdf....what is the best way seo wise to do this? I was thinking of just putting the file on my server and than just including a link to download it, but I'm thinking there's probably a better way. Any thoughts?
