Homepage keyword changing strategy
-
Hi!
We're a spanish construction company and we've been positioning our home with the keyword "wooden homes". We also have a specific landing page positioned with that same keyword. Right now we are getting out of a penguin and panda penalization and we're doing well.
As part of a rebranding strategy we are thinking of changing our homepage keyword to "luxury homes". We are still going to hace the "wooden houses" landing page but this keyword is just going to be present in its own landing.
The new keyword has much more volume of search than the one we have right now. Is there a strategy you can recomend us for this rebranding?
Thanks

Glad to help good luck to you.

That was more or less what we thought but needed some advice still. Thanks a lot

It is okay to do so, but before you do here is some advice.
Make sure you have strong "Luxury Homes" content not only on your home page but in the site as well. The reason you may have ranked well for "wooden houses" maybe that your site had a lot of content about them as well as related content.
I speak from experience about a year ago we made the same decision and one of the keywords we ranked very well for on our homepage we decided to just try and rank for on our landing page. By removing the content from our homepage and redoing our landing page we never got the same rank.
What I learned was the way search engines view the site in a whole, what you say on your home page has a very strong impact on the way you are viewed by the search engines.
For example lets say you run a Motorcycle shop. You do mostly custom bikes but also offer other services. On your home page you talk about custom bikes and link to a custom bikes show case, as well as other things like fabrication processes, design process, engineering tips etc.. If you suddenly say well we not only do custom bikes but we also do service repairs then change your homepage content to reflect this, you may find you lose rank for custom bikes because well that is what search engines thought your site in a whole was about.
Re-branding can be tricky, just make sure if you re-brand you don't just do it one page deep. Think it through, think about related content and make pages for the related content. Don't put your hope all on a landing page to pick up the slack for "wooden homes" make sure that content gets updated and becomes stronger so you don't lose that traffic. It may also help to leave a meaningful amount of "wooden home" content on the homepage while you re-brand.
I hope this makes sense and helps,
Don

How to choose a Keyword
I searched around for this answer first but got information overload. I write a photography blog and tonight I will put up a post of photography from around Jiyugaoka Train Station. I will probably call the post Around Jiyugaoka Station or Around Jiyugaoka or something like that. I like in Jiyugaoka (a part of Tokyo) so I have other posts that I have keyworded for Jiyugaoka. What is the best way to determine what is the best derivative of 'Jiyugaoka Station' to choose for the best traffic? I assume I could enter them in to manually into the Keyword Analysis but is there is easier way that would give recommendations?

Specific Keyword Ranking Advice
Hi Folks, We're trying to optimize the page (http://alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/) for the keyword "goat milk soap". Our page used to rank #1 before Panda (actually our home page did, not the page I'm trying to optimize on now). Now we're around rank 25. I've followed all the guidelines for on-page optimization I know, and I've done everything I can think of. We're currently executing a link building campaign but that obviously takes time. Does anyone have any advice? Is there anything else I can do to improve our ranking? Thanks, Hal

Is it a good idea? Do oyu have any suggestions? Any expert out there give an insight? Thanks in advance. Francesca
