Goals tracking across subdomains
-
Hi all,
I'm having some trouble with regards to setting up goals tracking in Analytics across subdomains and was hoping that someone could help me out.
Okay I work for an insurance company and we use a Quote & Buy portal for our insurance policies. Our website - www.example.com sends the traffic to quotes.example.com. Both of these sites have the same Google Analytics tracking ID. The quotes.example.com has no duplicate URLs which appear one our website, therefore I only set up the account to only include the hostname for each.
Does this sound correct?
The goals issue is if I now set up a goal in the quotes.example.com account, someone comes to www.example.com via Google and then clicks through to our journey and completes, will this count as a referral from www.example.com or as a goal from Organic?
I'm totally stuck so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ben

If you are seeing a break then something is causing it between your sub-domains, is there an auto-loading interstitial page or redirect of some kind being used?
I recommend Tag Manager as it makes defining click based events easier and the Tag Assistant tool for Google Chrome can be very useful in figuring out what is causing weird problems with your Google Analytics and other on site tools.

Hi,
Thanks for the response!
I set up the GA account roughly over a year ago, however, both subdomains have the same tracking ID/code, so shouldn't be any issue there.
Also as they aren't different domains, but subdomains, why would I need cross domain tracking - or am I being stupid?
How can Google Tag Manager help?
Thanks
Ben

Ben,
I assume you set up your GA account awhile ago and are still using the old code, you have two options to fix this. The first is you can keep your old code but change it to also have cross domain tracking, the other, and better option is that you upgrade your tracking to use the most current version as you will need to do this eventually.
I also recommend looking into Google Tag Manager as it allows for easy advanced tracking implementations.

Cross-Domain Tracking Urgent Query :-(
Hi Mozzers! One of my clients is having an issue with cross-domain tracking, in other words their own domain is seen as a huge referrer. When you land on their site, which is www.sunway.ie, and then choose a holiday to book it then takes you to another domain which is www.sunwayholidays.ie, during the booking process. I'm just wondering if there is a Google Analytics genius out there who may be able to take a quick look and let me know if there is any obvious solution to this within the Google Analytics code? Thanks in advance everyone! Gavin

Goals and Conversions in Multi-Channel-Funnel
Hi, we defined several goals in Google Analytics, and the reported amount of conversions seems to be correct. Today, I switched into the multi-channel funnel to look at assisting conversions etc.. There, the total number of conversions is higher than the amount of conversions in our goal-section (807 vs. 734). Did I miss something? I always thought the numbers should be the same? Any idea why they differ that much (time span was 14 days)... Thanx...

Track shopping cart abandonment?
We have an e-commerce site, and we use Google Analytics. We have created a "sales" goal + the funnel. Our funnel has the following structure: shopping cart - register - login - address - shipping - payment method - confirmation - sales This helps us track "goal abandonment". But we're also interested in tracking "shopping cart abandonment". For example we can see that 100 visitors enter the shopping cart, and 80 of them proceed to register or other steps in the funnel. This means that 20% left the car (shown by a red arrow in Google Analytics). Is there other way to see how many people left the shopping cart without proceeding to any of the other steps in the funnel, for example, people that closed their browsers or went to a page in the site not included in the funnel? I know I'm missing something here... Thanks!

Custom GA tracking and link value
Hi I'm working on a real estate agents web site which has a lots of links coming from paid listings in real estate linstings sites (this in France so I'm not sure examples will mean anything but basically the agents have 900 house listings in each site and each listing has a backlink) In analytics these are classified as referals and that's fine for the moment But because sites provide different types of links, we are considering tagging all paid links with analytics utm codes. Mainly to learn which ads are actually providing qualified traffic (providing contacts). I'm guessing that currently these links, there are thousands, bring seo value to my client's web site and are not considered as paid links. Will adding the analytics codes to these links cause a loss of their value by clearly indicating to Google that we paid for them? What's the current thinking on this? I'm tempted not to be worried about being honest about the origin of these links but I'm worried that there is a real danger of loosing current ranking Any arguments FOR tagging paid links ? Thanks for you help Neil
