Multi location stategy

Hi, I would to get some advice on how to generate some links for my cleaning business in order to build high rankings across numerous locations for search phrases such as "house cleaning in [location]" and "domestic cleaners in [location]" etc etc. I'm hopefully on the right lines with my domain and url structure, and have set up numerous pages for each location (i.e. www.domain.com/cleaning-in-location) ticking as many of the on-page optimization boxes as possible (basically as per the whiteboard friday on mult-location businesses).
I was thinking that for each location page I could set up a 'Things and places we like in [location]' in an attempt to showcase influencers' businesses, in the hope of receiving links and social mentions specific to each location page. Although this is a lot of work I was thinking that I should set up separate twitter and facebook accounts for key locations and start engaging with a local audience? From a local search perspective, is there more value gaining links from bloggers/websites physically in location_A to www.mydomain.com/cleaning-in-location_A?

Solid directory management practices (Moz's new tool looks like a great start) will certainly help, including areas served on pages where possible (Google +, Yelp, etc.)

Connect with and get links from local BBBs, Chambers of Commerce, and other local non-directory type business listings.

If your cleaning services are commercial, and you have any .edu or .gov customers, see if you can gain any links from these sites. A blog article, a news item thanking you for a contribution, anything. Highly local, and a lot of value.

Hi Kathryn, I wouldn't bother with the multiple social account approach as any effort invested in this area would be better spent building up the overall social presence of you main accounts.
If your page is correctly optimised for that area and you have great content, then your job is 90% finished. A good strategy is to link out to an authority site in that area such as the local chamber of commerce. Just link to an authority site or page about that area with a PR5+, even a Wikipedia page about the history of that town or suburb is fine. A contextual link about half way down the page works best.
Also, try to get some Schema markup on your page that at least specifies the suburb you're trying to rank for. If you run your suburb page through the Google's Structured Data Testing tool and the results are pulling in address details from your main suburb, then you're sending mixed signals to Google.
When it comes to building links to these inner suburb pages, I wouldn't be worried about where they come from, as long as they're good links. Getting good local links would be optimal, but any good links will boost the authority of that page and help it rank better.
As you mentioned, talking about the local attractions isn't too bad, but I would focus more on structuring my 600+ words of content on scooping up all the LSI keywords associated with your primary keyword. So towards the end of the content I would talk about cleaning tips or how to clean specific areas of your home, etc.
And whatever you do, don't over optimise the area keyword. If you have 600+ words of content, and a couple of images, then your area keyword should only be in your body content twice! A partial match keyword in the H1 heading will also work better too. Hope this helps a little.

Facebook Locations - Good or Bad for Local Rankings?
Our company has multiple (3) offices, including our headquarters, and each has its own Facebook page. Other than the primary company page, the other two locations have only been claimed and do not have posts, reviews, check-ins, etc. Now, Facebook recently granted us access to Facebook Locations, which, if I understand correctly, would remove 2-out-of-3 office pages and add a "Locations" tab to our primary company page where people can see the other offices. _See Starbucks Example: https://www.facebook.com/pg/Starbucks/locations/?ref=page_internal _ I've read mixed reviews regarding using the Locations feature, but nothing definitively answers whether or not this would negatively affect local rankings. Does anyone have firsthand experience going from individual business pages to a single parent business page with Locations? Is there any trustworthy documentation out there about this?

Multiple Local Domains and Location Pages Question
Hello Everyone, So we have a priority site (domain.com) but also a geo-specific site for another location we have (domainNYC.com). Assuming both have completely unique content, different contact information and it’s justifiable to have a second domain (i.e. resources, brand/link equity…etc.) would it be recommend to also use the sub-folder approach on our primary (meaning domain.com/nyc)? And then potentially linking to domainNYC.com (just the once, not overdoing it)? Or just play it safe and keep them separate. Our concern is doing both sub-folder and separate domain might cannibalize on local searches resulting in us essentially competing with ourselves for those terms. The benefit would be leveraging the priority domain and driving visitors there. We could always ‘noindex, follow' the sub-folder page so users have access to the address on the primary domain too but wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions as well as how it could pertain to linking (scarcely). We have found a lot of information on choosing one over the other but not as much for whether both is recommended so any extra insight would be very appreciated. Business listing verification for multiple locations
Hi there I have been asked to help with a business which has multiple locations (5 to be precise). I haven't really worked with a business on that scale before so I am a little bit out of my depth.

I had a look at their business listing in the moz local business listing checker and their profile seems very messy. I can see several of their branches listed, some verified, some not verified. When I look at the listing for each branch in detail they are all incomplete but at different levels (ranges from 17% to 46%). Some have a Facebook page and some haven't, same for google my business etc...
My understanding when it comes to multiple locations is that, in an ideal world, each branch should have its own google my business page, Facebook page, a Bing places for business page etc...
Can anyone confirm what the best approach is to deal with multilocations businesses and their business listing and/or point me to some online resource that could help me.
Would I also need to create multiple accounts for listing their business in directories such as Yelp, Yell etc... Thanks so much for all the help I can receive0 -
Multi city locations and webmaster tools
I recently read this article: https://moz.com/ugc/get-your-multilocation-business-ranking-in-multiple-cities-with-one-domain-21815 In it Brian talks about setting up webmaster tools for city locations and directories. So my client has a site: www.example.com/city1 and www.example.com/city2 How do I configure webmaster tools for these city locations. Is it possible?Is it worth it?

Same location, same industry, same phone number, old name
Hey Moz! I was recently hired for some local SEO work and discovered this about my client. His business used to be called something else before he purchased it. He has the same phone number and same domain name, but there are Google My Business pages for both the old name and the new name, both of which have the same address, phone number, and domain name listed on them. I am not sure what the correct course of action is. Should I begin removing the old information? It seems as though there is no penalty in place but I don't want to build a campaign on a poor foundation. Is there a way to let Google know that this old page should not exist anymore? Any advice would by much appreciated!

Second location
Hello Moz Community, I have a client that is about to open up a second location. The website is optimized for his current location, should I convert his current site (Wordpress) into a Multi-Site Wordpress and convert the homepage to a directory for both locations with each location essentially having it's own website? If I go this route, I believe I'm going to drop in rankings on his current site since his location homepage url will change (example.com will change to ---> example.com/location-one) also there will have to be a lot of work as far as going through all citations and changing the url's on them. The other way I was thinking is just leaving the site as is and still converting the wordpress site to multisite, but not creating a directory page and just creating a new site for his new location. What do you feel is the best approach or if you guys have a better idea I would love to hear it.
