Help with GA Filters - IP Addresses
-
I'm having a hard time filtering out both of the IP addresses at our office. One is easy with regular expressions, but the other one does not seem to be working.
Here are the two IP addresses:
2606:a000:4e2b:d500:61d9:9d4e:c539:ea86
174.99.90.148I set up these two custom filters and neither worked for the longer IP address.
2606:a000:4e2b:d500:61d9:9d4e:c539:ea86|174.99.90.148
2606:a000:4e2b:d500:61d9:9d4e:c539:ea86|174.99.90.148Would you please help steer me in the right direction? Thanks as always MOZ friends!
-
Figured it out fully! This is how I needed to write the filter to have both in a regular expression:
174.99.90.148|^2606:a000:4e2b:d500
Thanks again everyone for steering me in the right direction!
-
Not sure why, but it looks like we just have to have separate filters for ipv6 versus ipv4s... works that way, but not combined for whatever reason.
Thanks for the help everyone!
-
I would agree with Dmitrii again on this one. For ipv6 there shouldn't be a need for regex as there are no '.' characters and ':' does not cause a regex function. You might want to consider simply segmenting the ipv4 and ipv6 as two different filters? I know this defeats your purpose of using one filter to catch them all but the problem you are facing may be caused by trying to group ipv6 and ipv4 in the same filter.
Try doing them separately and let us know if that solves the issue of correctly filtering the ipv6 traffic while using the pipes to join multiple ipv6 in one filter.
-
If you are creating filter just for one IPv6, why to you use regular expression at all? Just input it as it is.
-
I'm no longer getting the error, but for whatever reason putting them together is not filtering them out. What it looks like I need to do is create a custom filter and determine how to put the ipv6 in as a regular expression, which I do not understand how to do. Do you know?
-
The solution Dmitrii proposed has also worked for me with no invalid IP address error.
Can you confirm that this is still not working for you and provide a screenshot if possible?
-
It worked for me. I just checked. Are you doing it in custom, rather than predefined?
-
When I put that in it tells me that it's an invalid IP address...
-
It should be
2606:a000:4e2b:d500:61d9:9d4e:c539:ea86|174.99.90.148 -
It does work when I set up a predefined filter blocking IP, but only for that one ipv6 - when trying to add both it isn't working and I'm hoping to only have one filter that blocks multiple IPs... thoughts?
-
Again, is it working if you create a filter just for ipv6?
-
Basically, what I'm trying to do is build the functionality to have all of my IP addresses, both IPv4 and IPv6 in one GA filter. I selected a custom filter to exclude IP addresses that are equal to the below expression, but it's not working for the IPv6. Can someone tell me what's wrong with this setup?
174.99.90.148|2606:a000:4e2b:d500:8519:4fcb:8bf0:78d7
I'm pretty sure the regular expression is incorrect for the IPv6, but I don't know how to do it and cannot figure it out through research.
Thanks as always MOZ friends!
-
Well, try ipv6 by itself first. Make sure it's working, eliminate the variables, you know. If it works by itself, then you can start digging into regular expressions (even though it should be simple ipv6|ipv4 without escapes). Who knows - maybe fault is not in regular expressions, but address is wrong or something.
-
I'd like to put all of these IP addresses in one filter instead of several, which requires a regular expression. These IPs are ours, but I also want to add different partners' IP addresses on their sites. We work with about 50 different websites and I'm hoping to have this as just one of the filters. The regular expression works for the non-IPv6 (thanks!) IP, but the IPv6 one is not filtering.
Make sense? Thanks again for the help!

IPv6 is that long IP address.
Simply go to filters in GA, find predefined filter, choose exclude, choose "traffic from IP addresses" and paste your IP, which is 2606:a000:4e2b:d500:61d9:9d4e:c539:ea86.
-
Pardon the lack of knowing, but what is ipv6? How does that filter look in the GA filter? Thanks!
-
Hi there.
You should be able to exclude both IPs without any escaping. What I'd recommend is to create a filter just for ipv6 and see if exclusion works. Let me know if that works.

Reported data in Multi-channel funnels in GA wrong?
I'd love to start using the Multi-channel funnels feature in Google Analytics but I have zero confidence in the reported data as it seems to bear no relationship to the standard ecomm reports. To be specific, in August 2013, MCF is reporting the following for email campaigns: Assisted conversions = 20
Reporting & Analytics | | Bluesnapper
Assisted conversion value = £1,405.91
Last Click or Direct Conversions = 14
Last Click or Direct Conversion Value = £369.57 Now switching to the traffic sources report, GA reports for the email campaigns revenue was £1,226,41 over the same period across 21 transactions. My interpretation of this is that the email campaigns were the "last-click" and delivered £1,226,41 and 21 "conversions" (as I have no goals configured in this GA view, conversions = transactions I believe) That leaves the MCF last-click report short by £856.84 (£1,226,41 - £369.57) I can see no reason why this should be so unless I'm not interpreting the data correctly! Anybody have any suggestions/ideas as to what's going on? Any help appreciated.0 -
IP address changed, subdomains added - how will affect?
Hello, Two weeks ago we have changed IP address of our website, also we've added new subdomains for static content (like img.domain.com & js.domain.com) and changed the links on the site accordingly. The old IP is also working and the old links are accessible too. For some reason, since the change, we see a SE (google) traffic constant drop everyday. I've read only Google's support (http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=34437) that such change shouldn't affect the ranking anyhow. On the other hand I've consulted with SEO people and was told that such change may affect in the close new feature (for couple of weeks) and then bring the ranking back. I would like to hear another opinion, I want to get back to our board with approved answers. Please advice. Thanks.

GA E-Commerce can't tell the real order source?
I put the e-commerce tracking code on the transaction platform (Regnow) finishing page, but all the orders displayed in GA can't tell the real order source. Instead, most of orders are from direct(none), and referrals from my site. So this is obviously wrong. I need the accurate order source such as google organic or google ppc, then I can find which keyword brings me orders. After some searches, I guess the reason is cookie domain. My GA is set as single domain tracking. And I didn't put any cookie domain code on the Regnow's transaction finishing page. The codes I put on the page are: So, suppose my site is "www.example.com". How to make sure I can track the real order source on the Regnow's transaction finishing page? Should I set my GA to track multi top-level domains, and put _gaq.push(['_setDomainName', '']); code on the tracking page? How to set the domain name, "none" or "example.com"?? Thanks in advance.

Subdomain GA Tracking??
Hi Mozzers I am tracking a web property www.example.com and we are launching a subdomain.example.com. Should the subdomain tracked on GA by creating a new profile or should it be on its own with a new GA property ID? Thanks for explaining how to do that setup 🙂 Ty

New GA interface - Number of conversion by source
Hi Guys, Hope this is an easy one for a GA ninja. In the new GA interface, how can I view the number of conversions by source, instead of the default conversion rate by source. For example, if I want to view the number of conversion from Adwords. I'm looking at Goals > Source / Medium > Google CPC and looking at Goal Set 1. However all data is expressed in percentages. Thanks in advance!

GA mediums
I know this may be an easy question, but I keep seeing mediums titled SEM and (not set) in my GA. I can't seem to find the Google definition. Does anyone know what this means?

Segmenting traffic from referring sites in GA
Most of our traffic is from Referring sites, and in referring sites, job sites are sending most of the traffic. How can we segment traffic from job sites. There are about 40 such sites. We would like to receive a report which shows traffic excluding from these job sites.

Creating a Filter in GA to track Parent Category
I don't know if the title makes sense, but here's my question... Our newspaper website has multiple categories like World, Sport, Entertainment etc. Now, a story, belonging to the entertainment section maybe published on the entertainment page but is likely to have a slot somewhere on the Home page as well as other pages. The same goes for stories in sport etc. However, the url displays the date folllowed by the post title and thats it, no category name. Now, a user may end up going to a detailed story that belongs to the entertainment section (from the home page or any other page) without actually having visited the entertainment page. However, for tracking purposes, we want to see how many hits we got on the entertainment page and any story belonging to that particular section. So, my question is how do I go about creating filters that can help me track category page and detail story hits as one? Or, should I ammend the url structure (keep in mind we are using wordpress for our news website) to include category after the date and would this solve my problem of tracking? I asked a similar question recently but maybe I did not explain myself clearly. Thanks!
