Treatment of domain names in content that are not actually a link
-
From PR activity we've found that lots of newspaper sites will include reference to a domain name in an article but not actually make this a link through to the domain. For example we will see text like:
For further information read the full report at www.bluewidget.com
Of course we make attempts to contact the newspaper to request they make it a link but this doesn't always achieve a result.
So the question is, does Google place any value for the identified domain in a case like this?

Yes I absolutely agree with EGOL. If the domain/page authority is good I would rather have a do-follow link. But on the other hand if that is not possible and the brand/domain is mentioned in context then I would be happy that is a signal for Google. Maybe small but still part of the mix.

I believe that these "domain mentions" are valuable.
I believe that some manufacturers benefit from them enormously. Let's say that I manufacture the Egol Widget and wholesale them to lots of other websites. When those websites publish pages selling the Egol Widget, google sees my product and my brand being mentioned on lots of retail and review sites in my industry. I think that is a powerful signal to Google that there is a lot of interest in my business and its products. I think that these domain mentions cause my content to perform better in the search results.
This is all opinion. Just sayin'. Maybe someone else agrees.

A long domain name included on the count of characters bad for SEO as well?
Re: Are long URLs bad for SEO? Does a long domain name included on the count of characters bad for SEO as well? Here is an example : "https://kesslerfoundation.org/press-release/kessler-team-tests-regenerative-approach-preventing-osteoarthritis-after-knee-injury". This over 35 characters, however, does it begin after or before the domain name?

Malicious Link
Hello all, We're doing an adwords campaign, and Google has said that there is a malicious link on the website we're looking to advertise - so cannot launch the campaign. I've tried to go through Search Console (I am a novice BTW). And it says that "Domain properties are not supported at this time". Which I don't understand. Any advice please?!

Purchasing a domain to redirect to a new domain (note same industry) - Black hat or White hat technique?
Hi Everyone, Ok so here is my question. I have a client who sells gourmet tea and gourmet spices. She has a culinary blog. There is a culinary blog that just posted that the website will be shut down in the near future. It has 100% white hat links. Would it be considered black hat to buy the domain and redirect it to my clients blog which is also a culinary blog? I would really like to ask Matt Cutts this question. Does anyone know how to send him questions? Thanks Carla

If I switch my domain name, will I keep link juice from redirect?
I am moving one of my sites wellington-florida-homes.com to a new domain (wellingtonfloridahomes.com). Most of our link-juice is coming from another domain we purchased (theshockleyteam.com) that is redirected to our primary site. If I simply redirect theshockleyteam.com to our new domain (wellingtonfloridahomes.com) I will still have the link juice passing through, right? Thanks!

If I get a natural link for a great site and I have my keyword with anchor text in this link, how should I proceed?
If I get a natural link for a great site and I have my keyword with anchor text in this link, how should I proceed? I need to contact the site and ask to remove the link or request the removal of the anchor text and leave only the site URL? Or yet do not I need to worry about this issue?

Do Backlinks to a PDF help with overall authority/link juice for the rest of the domain?
We are working on a website that has some high-quality industry articles available on their website. For each article, there is an abstract with a link to the PDF which is hosted on the domain. We have found in Analytics that a lot of sites link directly to the PDF and not the webpage that has the abstract of the article. Can we get any benefit from a direct PDF link? Or do we need to modify our strategy?

301 Redirect with an Exact Domain name Match
My Client had a site that ranked for a pretty competitive two word phrase, but for a variety of reasons had to transfer the site to a different domain name (with none of the previous keywords). We've 301'd everything just fine to the new site, but our traffic for that two word phrase, as well as related long tail traffic, is beginning to drop. Could the drop be related to something that we didn't do well in the transfer? Or is it due to the new domain name now not being an exact match? Sitenote question: Our Google Analytics is still set up for the former domain name and shows data just fine. Is there any reason to switch GA to the new domain? What are the pros/cons? Much thanks in advance!
