Best practices on campaign setup for a microsite... first timer here (be gentle).
-
if I was to create a microsite, or a landing page, would I create a new campaign to only analyze this page? If I want to report on the effectiveness of SEO on a series of landing pages within a campaign, or a microsite, how would I do this? I cannot seem to create a campaign that only targets several identified pages... this one is baffling me.
Help?

Hi Ken! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
In the example that you've provided here, I will elaborate on how our campaign structure works in regards to URLs:
Each of these could be created as separate campaigns and if you click the "Exclude subdomains to restrict this campaign to the domain you entered".
Subsequently, if you had any subfolders beyond the last slash in your URL, that would be included in that campaign data as well.
For example:
Campaign A is setup for http://www.yoursite.com/product1 and you've clicked the "exclude subdomains" checkbox. This would include data for this site structure, as an example:
http://www.yoursite.com/product1
http://www.yoursite.com/product1/subfolder1
http://www.yoursite.com/product1/subfolder1/examplefolder1
http://www.yoursite.com/product1/subfolder1/examplefolder2 (etc)
http://www.yoursite.com/product1/subfolder2
http://www.yoursite.com/product1/subfolder2/examplefolder1
http://www.yoursite.com/product1/subfolder1/examplefolder2 (etc)
so and so forth...While Campaign B is setup for http://www.yoursite.com/product2 and you've clicked the "exclude subdomains" checkbox. This would include data for this site structure, as an example:
http://www.yoursite.com/product2
http://www.yoursite.com/product2/subfolder1
http://www.yoursite.com/product2/subfolder1/examplefolder1
http://www.yoursite.com/product2/subfolder1/examplefolder2 (etc)
http://www.yoursite.com/product2/subfolder2
http://www.yoursite.com/product2/subfolder2/examplefolder1
http://www.yoursite.com/product2/subfolder1/examplefolder2 (etc)
so and so forth...And Campaign C could be: http://www.yoursite.com/product3
http://www.yoursite.com/product3/subfolder1
http://www.yoursite.com/product3/subfolder1/examplefolder1
http://www.yoursite.com/product3/subfolder1/examplefolder2 (etc)
http://www.yoursite.com/product3/subfolder2
http://www.yoursite.com/product3/subfolder2/examplefolder1
http://www.yoursite.com/product3/subfolder1/examplefolder2 (etc)
so and so forth...It's also important to note that if your subfolders exist on the "www" version of your site, you must base the campaign on the "www" URL or else your data won't show up for those subfolders.
I hope this helps explain this a little further but please let me know if there's anything more I can clarify!

Thanks again for the quick response! Perhaps this will help explain what I am trying to do...
I have 5 pages I would like to optimize:
http://www.yoursite.com/product1
http://www.yoursite.com/product2
http://www.yoursite.com/product3
http://www.yoursite.com/product4
http://www.yoursite.com/product5Because there is no subdomain, or any URL folder that I can hook into (other than the root), I am unsure how to create a campaign around those 5 pages.
Do I need to re-do the page aliases to group them?

Hi again!
In the same screenshot that I provided in my previous response: http://screencast.com/t/RDOJAu8ykW you would set the url in the top field to the specific section of the site you're interested in targeting your campaign for and then click the "Advanced" link and then click the checkbox next to "Exclude subdomains to restrict this campaign to the domain you entered".

Thanks!
I get the concept, but my question is really around a certain section of our website, or perhaps a microsite.
In the example of a section of the site, we may have a suite of products that I would like to optimize. How do I segregate just those pages into a campaign? Or is there another methodology?
Thanks again,
-
Hi there - thanks for writing in! Kristina from Moz's Help Team here.
Campaigns are site-specific (meaning you can't track multiple sites within a single campaign) and within the Campaign Settings that you set when you initially set-up the campaign, you can choose to track all pages within the entire root-domain of a site, or restrict it to only pull in data for a particular subdomain.
Here's a screenshot of the campaign setup section where you would set these settings upon the creation of your campaign: http://screencast.com/t/RDOJAu8ykW
I hope this helps answer your question! If not, or if you're needing further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team anytime by emailing help@moz.com!
Have a great day,
- Kristina

Site with 2 domains - 1 domain SEO opimised & 1 is not. How best to handle crawlers?
Situation: I have a dual domain site:
Getting Started | | DGAU
Domain 1 - www.domain.com is SEO optimised with product pages and should of course be indexed.
Domain 2 - secure.domain.com is not SEO optimised and simply has checkout and payment gateway pages. I've discovered that Moz automatically crawls Domain 2 - the secure.domain.com site and consequently picks up hundreds of errors.
I have put an end to this by adding a robots.txt to stop rogerbot and dotbot (mozs crawlers) from crawling domain 2. This fixes my errors in Moz reports however after doing more research into 'Crawler Control' I figure this might be the best option. My Question: Instead of using robots.txt to stop moz from crawing all of Domain 2 should I use on each page of domain 2? I believe this would then allow moz and google to crawl Domain 2 but also tell them both not to index it.
My understanding is that this would be best, and might even help my overall SEO by telling google not to give any SEO value to the Domain 2 pages?0 -

Campaigns
I wanted to track different pages on my website with Moz in terms of keyword positions. Do I have to set up a new campaign for each url on my website that I want to track? I have to test campaigns set up in the free trial at present and it seems easy to track url movements when it is set up in its own page.

Pro just NOTworking, won't add campaigns...help!
I have been a member before, but cancelled due to Moz not doing daily ranking. Signed up again, as i like the reporting facility, and now have planned to use this along with Rankinity. I got the free trial, added in two new campaigns, which is not a quick process if you do it correctly, and neither are showing up in my campaigns tab. So I thought, maybe its because it's a free trial...so I upgraded to the 149/month, and got billed. Tried adding a campaign again, and nada. Also tried activating archived campaigns...again, nothing. Nothing is working, talking directly to Moz is pretty much impossible (no phone number, the 'talk to us' button never gets a response - tried that on Friday), so I am trying to get some kind of answers here. What I would like from Moz is: 1. Make the adding campaigns thing work asap (I need to make the client reports soon). 2. Make it so my old archived ones, when I click the activate button work. 3. If they are feeling nice for wasting hours of my time, maybe refunding my sub for the month and putting me back on the free trial or something. My head is about to explode....HELPPPPP! Love, Jeannie xo
