Help finding someone to handle crashing site/site optimization.
-
I need someone who can handle website/WordPress issues as they come up.For example, my site has gone down 4 times tonight, and my host can't figure it out. They also keep recommending that I optimize my site, but I don't know how. I need a go-to web person for this sort of thing. Any recommendations?

I hear ya there. I have sites on Pair.com (really good) and I'm getting ready to move a site to Liquid Web. Both have exceptional support and reliability and "scale" well. I'd start looking at those specifically.
Hope that's helpful Charles. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. As for next tier hosting, have any recommendations? We're in a situation where a "generic" host worked fine in the beginning, but as our site has grown it just doesn't seem the current host is a long-term solution.

Hey Charles, sorry you are having problems.
I would like to suggest you check-out WP Fix It. I've used them in the past for clients who needed just what you need right now: a monthly managed WP service to do all the heavy lifting for you.
The price for their service is $57/mo. Here's a list of what that service plan looks like:
- Premium Stable Hosting
- Elite Security Protection
- Daily Full Site Backups
- Monthly Software Updates
- Personalized Agent Connection
- Unlimited Issue Support
- FREE website transfer
Now, again, I have no direct involvement with the site myself but I've used them multiple times and I've always been impressed with how fast they respond to client questions and concerns...including when a site "suddenly goes down."
In your case, if your "host" can't figure it out then your host probably SUCKS. If you are using the Bluehost and GoDaddys of the World that may explain your problem. So it's possible that migrating you off your host to something more "reliable" may solve a lot of your problems.
But if you need a suggestion, check-out www.wpfixit.com. You can do much, much worse.
Good luck and keep us updated in the thread!

HTTPS and HTTP both exist! How to handle?
I was asked to do some SEO work for a website and learned that just 6 weeks ago, their webmaster added an HTTPS instance of the site. Their backlinks all point to HTTP and the 6 pages that are already ranking are all on the HTTP site. I'm afraid to rock the boat by redirecting the site from HTTP to HTTPS as we may lose rank. What are some suggestions? If I just pull down the HTTPS will that hurt us? Would you just go ahead and redirect it? IF so, would you do each page individually or as a whole?

Creating a .cn site with the existing site content
Hi all, I'm planning to create a .cn site. If I simply translate the existing content on my site (.com.au) into Chinese, do you think Google will see the .cn site as a duplicate of the main site? Will this cause any duplicate content issues? Thanks

Best SEO Extension/Plugin for NOPCommerce Site?
Hi I am working for a client who is using NOPCommerce. It doesn't look like they have a SEO Plugin in - although you can add meta descriptions to Products - which works fine, the Product categories have SEO components too but do not seem to work and all 'other' content /CMS pages have no SEO components whatsoever. Does anyone know of a plugin which would resolve this? (PS never used NOPCommerce before!)

Title Tag Over Optimization
Hey, I've read that adding the company name to the title tag was a waste of space since the more words the less weight each one has, with all this over optimization preventive measures, should I rewrite the title tags format with company names? and if so should it be (company name): (naturally organized keywords) (naturally organized keyword) | (Company name). or can I keep it just naturally organized keywords Also I used to do (keyphrase) - (keyphrase) instead of commas, should I fix this? I asked this question on Randy's post http://www.seomoz.org/blog/6-changes-every-seo-should-make-before-the-over-optimization-penalty-hits-whiteboard-friday but didn't really get an answer. Thanks!

How deep should I go with a directory site?
I am creating a new site which has a directory component. Based on what I have ready I am inclined to keep the site architecture as flat as possible. However, the natural layout that I have come up with in my head has the directory listings 5 or 6 pages deep in the site structure. I saw in another post that someone in a similar situation was suggesting that going deep like this is fine so long as there are many internal links to the deeper pages to indicate that they are important. Should I make a conscious effort to make the site architecture as flat as possible? Are there any specific guides/resources that address this particular issue that I should be aware of? Thanks!
