Should I focus on building links to my homepage, or internal pages?

I'm hiring several PA's to contact site's linking to my competition. Should we try to get links to content pages (blog post, article, etc) or build links directly to my homepage?
More info: My site is a web application, so most links will naturally fall on the homepage. If links to content are more important we'll need to change our strategy. We are pitching the free version of the application to universities and schools as a resource for their students.

Hey there,
It's natural that most of the back links will get the homepage. However, there should be some diversity as well. I would recommend to look closely on the relevance of the page you are going to get the link from. If some of your articles would be more relevant than the homepage, I'd definitely go for the article. Also, make sure that the anchor texts naturally differ. Sometimes the anchor text could be the link itself, sometimes name of your domain but I'd try to get link through a keyword rich anchor text within the content.

Link building - where to start?
Okay - we have around 200 natural links pointing to our domain, some good, some not so good; today I've spent some time removing any bad, spammy links pointing to our business domain and we're just about there. Now I'd like to start a link building strategy. To be fair, I've assumed for the past year or so that link building is dead, unless you can get natural, really good links - which in the mobility and elderly products industry can be quite difficult. I have recently created a blog on our website - could RSS feeds be a benefit too?

Internal Linking Anchor text
Hallo everybody, I am trying to improve internal linking but I am little bit confused about internal linking title. Should I use Kenya all-inclusive accommodation, Kenya full board accommodation etc or I should be using the title without the destination name, all-inclusive accommodation, full board accommodation? My worry is if it will not be too much of Kenya in each title. Any advice what is the best practice? Thank you very much

Internal linking on my webpages
When I create internal links on my website should I use the keyword or at least a related keyword ( synonym ) every time... I am asking because on my website it is hard to create links from one sub section to another subsection linking with a anchor text that relates to the other category. For example in the travel industry it is hard to have a page that talks about Florida and on the page find a way to link the keywords, California , NY and Missouri ( other than listing those next to each other ... ) as they do not belong to my content about Florida but are all different states listed in my " states category " If I link the words next to each other in the page Florida, such as "you should also check California, NY, Missouri etc... " does it carry any value doing that or does it need to be surrounded by text that is related ? Or is it better to list it in a menu on the right or left side on my page ? ( which one caries more value ) Or if I have the word beach in my Florida page and link it to California is it better even though the user doesn't know what he or she is going to find by clicking on beach ? Effects of link bait page
Hi Mozzers! I'm thinking about putting a page with some interesting comedy content on my site as link bait and had a few questions on how i should go about it. 1. Should I link to this page from my home page or would it be better to build outside links to it and then funnel all the page rank to the pages on my site that i want ranking higher? I've been told that page rank is a tiny factor in ranking in the serps so is it worth doing if the only reason i'm building it is to funnel page rank to my important pages? The link bait page content will be on the same subject as my entire site so it will definitely help google associate my site with my product from the incoming links. 2. if a web page on my site receives links does it help other pages on my site to rank higher or just the page with the incoming links? One time i had a flurry of links pop up to my home page and it seemed like all my pages started ranking higher, but it might just have been coincidence? Any thoughts? 3. What's a good way to get my page seen by the masses to draw links? I thought about buying some stumbles on Stumbleupon to get it seen quickly but are there more or better ways to do this?
