Is ranking power mainly a matter of links?
-
Hey all. SEO noob here, trying to check my understanding.
In competitive analysis, is ranking power at the domain level really all about DA? And is DA basically a count of unique inbound follow links, modulated by the authority of the referring source and spam scores?
In other words, is ranking power basically a function of DA and PA?
I realize on-page and technical factors can also play a role, but authority seems to be key.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Yes and also in my observations, it is age, content, authority site of your domain site as well. Also if your domain is expired domain with good repute in google search or other engines. I recently created a site watersoftenerideas my i did all above things and all is on the pace.

there are many ranking factors. in affiliate on page+low kd+strong backlink+user experience these are the key factors for website ranking.

You should read Google's Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines. This document includes details of what they call E-A-T (Expertise, Authority, Trustworthiness). It's a long read and relatively dry, but there is some really good material in there that will help you better understand how Google evaluates a page. DA and PA are much simpler metrics than what Google actually uses in their algorithm, they're meant to help you make decisions and gauge competition, but these numbers are not provided by or used by Google.
And for what it's worth, I've seen countless instances of sites with great content and no links outrank mediocre content with a decent link profile. As Google gets more advanced in their ability to understand the content (using NLP), searcher intent, and engagement signals, links become less and less important.

Hey, thanks V!

For the most part, yes. There aren't a lot of other signals that can put trust in your article. There could be signals like how many people searched for your site and then went to that like without going back to search etc., but links still matter a lot. I'd go on a limb to say it is the most important factor.

Buy domain, redirect, get all the good links (+link juice) and disavow the spammy ones?
There is a domain for sale that has a quite nice profile and a lot of good backlinks, but also quite a few spammy ones. This domain has a Spam Score of 14% acc. to Moz Link explorer, ours has only 2%. My questions: 1. The domain and the good backlinks are related to or close to our content/keywords. But we are worried whether the "spammy" ones will hurt us. Does anyone has experience with this? 2. Would it help if we disavow the spammy backlinks afterwards? And if so, how do we do that? Add new domain to search console, disavow the bad links and then redirect the entire domain to our domain or redirect the domain first and then disavow from our property? Many thanks for your help!

I know content is extremely important when it comes to link building, however for an e-commerce store what can I do as far as content. So far my only idea is blog posts. It's a furniture store so videos are really hard to do. The blog posts relate to home decor and interior design. My question is if people are going to be linking to my blog, will this help my website rank for product terms? The blog is part of the website, websitename.com/blog.

Can I Boost Ranking Linking off Pages internallly?
My domain authority is relatively low, but my right now my homepage seems to have the highest rank. If I place a few internal page links on my homepage, would this boost ranking on internal pages? Or would it pull juice away from my homepage? Using the Seomoz OSE I see alot of my competitors using this type of strategy linking internally. Also would using breadcrumb links benefit me in anyway? Thanks very much!

Too many external links vs linking root domains - good or bad?
Hi guys, After the latest Linkscape update, we noticed that our website have 424,671 external links with 4,395 linking root domains, so roughly 100 links/domain. Does Google consider this to be a negative thing or we do not need to worry about it. Many thanks. David

Linking articles to each other
I've been using white-hat article marketing to post original content about my niche to credible article directories (yes, I realize many of them were recently devalued). My question is: Is it a good or bad idea to have future articles link to older articles, as a way to increase the chances of having the older articles indexed, or increasing the amount of link juice they pass to my site (since they point to my site)? I get 2 links per article and was thinking of using 1 to point to a prior (related) article, and the other to point to my site.
