Promoting a Facebook Contest

Hi, Mozzers-
I'm running a contest for a client of mine via Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/barrettmoving. The prizes are great an iPad2 and an iPod Touch! The contest is pretty cool too. Basically it's a papercraft / travel thing that appeals to a wide range of people. Anyway, here's my question - I've started promoting the contest via social media, the website, online contests...like to get to promoting it on relevant blogs too. I'm in the beginning stages.
Any other ideas? Has anyone had luck with PPC or FB ads?

maybe, since it's back to school time and the kids are hearding back to school..A "Free Local" move maybe another option instead of an Ipad2 that they may have anyhow...Cause moving stinks...and Free moves rock the heeezy...

Hmm...remove the "gate" - interesting idea! The demographic is mainly families, women, more affluent (can afford pro movers), etc.

You are a moving company? How about some olde school outreach...
do you have a mailing list of past clients (or even better if you use a service like mailchimp)..get buzz out about the contest.
piggy back your print ads with info about the ipad2 giveaway.
Dont forget to convert vistors into page "like"s

Lovely idea with the papercraft, if a bit of a longwinded explanation in the video. Id give FB ads a go with a small budget
I am struggling to identify the target market tho, from the ad - so its hard to suggest specific avenues when its quite nebulous to me
I dont like the gated "like" before people get access to the papercraft. I would make that bit as open as possible for added reach and just ask them to like when they upload the video or to see oter peoples videos. To get around the gate, maybe identify some big blog people in the space and send them your papercraft with a personalised request to make one
Would love to see a seomoz post on how well this did for you after its finished.

I've used Facebook ads in the past to promote a contest. They were very effective in driving people to the contest; however, I'm not sure how many people were actually truly engaged with my company at the end of the day. The last big giveaway we did, I chose not to run Facebook ads because it didn't make sense for the type of giveaway I was running in that I couldn't figure out a direct benefit of paying Facebook for people to enter something they could enter for free.

Facebook Page - About/Description/General About/Mission - Questions
Hi, Im just setting up a FB fan page for a client How terrible is it to use clients websites home page descriptive copy as the Facebook page long description ? Language is in Turkish which i don't speak so i'm not able to edit a new version of it just for FB and no budget to hire Turkish speaker to come up with something. So was going to copy & paste but that would be duplicate with HP obviously. How important is it to fill in 'Mission Statement' & 'General About' ? Especially if long description likely to already include that info ? I think long descrip is important for FB pages on seo etc etc but a good one eliminates importance of 'Mission' & 'General About', or is it still advisable to fill these in or are they just extra boxes for flexibility ? I take it when it comes to securing a vanity url (once we hit 25+ fans) for a foreign language version FB page it should ideally be brand name (which includes a keyword) in the local/target language ? The page name is already the brand name in English but since contains keyword is it best to rename into local target language similarly to the url for consistency and local targeting or better to keep one in Turkish and one in English ? Best Way to Promote Self Hosted Videos?
We are soon to launch 25 short videos on one of our websites. They are a little bit different and I think they have a particularly good chance of going viral. The videos will be scattered over the website on our actual sales pages (not tucked away on our blog). We are hoping (expecting) that customers will click on them and subsequently share them mainly due to the surprise / fun factor. I've got a lot of experience promoting our (linkbait) blog posts which usually get between 10,000 and 100,000 hits via social media blogs, however, I have no experience promoting video. We will do the offsite social blog promotions as normal, however, my two main concerns are: 1. I'm unsure how best to use the social buttons (facebook like/share tweet and G+). As I understand it (I could very much be wrong), I can either embed the social buttons on the videos so that they are easily shared across facebook etc... or I can make the the social button make the user 'Like' / 'Share' the page that the video is on. I assume that the latter option is better for website promotion but maybe not good for people sharing the video on Facebook etc. some of the videos do not have pride of place on our pages. An explanation or examples on the best option would be appreciated. 2. Should we hold off from putting the videos on YouTube until the website has earned some of the juice first? Or are we missing out on and opportunity by not offering all avenues at once? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated too! Facebook Graph Search
Hi All. Just wondering what your experience is with using Facebook graph search? I have a site that ranks highly for a good number of keywords on google, yahoo etc, but when you use the facebook graph search, it either doesnt show up at all or is buried away in page 5 or something. I'm talking about the 'Web Search' bit where it returns web results rather than searching for pages likes by my friends etc. Any thoughts? Why is my site way behind the competition in Facebook? I'm a white hat kind of girl and can't think what I might have done to offend! Have you come across any good resources advising how to optimise for facebook graph search for web? Thanks Jo

Removing Facebook Pages Without Admin Access
A few years ago someone started a Facebook page for my company. It has about 15 fans and is not active, however it is ranking in Google because of it's age. I want to delete the page (so that the real official Facebook page will rank instead). However, I do not have access to the original admin account and Facebook is not responding to my removal requests. Any suggestions for what I should do? Thanks!
