Website isn't Ranking for Any Keyword
-
Hi,
I launched a playhouses website in april this year and have been steadily link building to it over the past few months.
I have gotten all of the internal optimisation correct (that I can see) however it is still not ranking for any keyword and suprinsgly all of our traffic is comming either direct or through bing.
The website is showing as being in googles index however it is still not ranking for even the smallest of niche keywords.
The only penalty I can see is that we have some spammy blog links that my colleague has gotten which I have been trying to counteract with high quality guest blogging. Any input is welcome the url is http://www.playhouses.co.uk/

Hi,
As the others have said, your backlink profile looks pretty nasty. Another thing to remember is your anchor text. A brief look through OSE shows you have 100% keyword rich anchor text. Natural links often use the domain as anchor text so try to get some good quality, relevant links using www.playhouses.co.uk or http://www.playhouses.co.uk.

Your site is relatively new and so a spammy looking link profile is something that will not work in your favour. Take a look at this video by rand from a few years ago; http://www.seomoz.org/blog/belated-whiteboard-friday-can-bad-links-hurt-me
You definately need to work on some high quality content and then try and create good links to the high quality content you are creating. Google will then recognise your content and see that it's being linked to externally which is a positive sign.

Hi,
I don't think you would get penalized for lack of content, but you will need content in order to get ranked.
I do believe that you can be penalized for the spammy links.

Thanks for the reply,
The spammy links are the ones that my colleague has done, I am not to sure on how to get rid of these or countract them. There is no traffic at all in analytics through google.
I have been signed up on webmaster tools since launching the site and have been submitting sitemaps when new pages are launched as well as fixing any crawl errors.
Content is defiantly a good idea, I think this may have been something that ive overlooked.
Could the penalty be from the lack of content and spammy links?
-
First of all, you seem to have a lot of spammy looking directory links. Is that the kind of linkbuilding you are doing? If so, stop it. This might have given you a penalty.
Are you at least seeing some long tail traffic coming in, or nothing at all?
I would also recommend:
Sign up for Google Webmaster Tools to see if there are any crawling issues with your website.
From a first look at your website, it seems to me that you have very little text in relation to the code. I would try and add some articles related to your topic.

Why Google de-rank a website.
Hi, I was inspecting a website which is covering the topic of best wheelbarrow of 2021, it is a new website and and starts ranking on google. But, after few days it got de-rank automatically and Moz is also not showing any result to that. I was wandering why this just happened and what should I do if I made my website and will not face this kind of situation?

Homepage optimized for main keyword - adding the same keyword to category
Hello, We have a listing / classified advertisement website. The homepage is optimized for the main keyword lets say Prague clubs. The homepage shows around 50 latest listings. Now the homepage is not ranking well for the keyword. (By not well i mean in 3 months we have no ranking in the target SERP) Im thinking the issue might be that the keyword "Prague clubs" is not in any of the URL or category names. What do you think if i name one of the categories also to lets say "best prague clubs". This way i will have around 50-80 urls having the target keyword in them. (advertisements + the category itself) Will this help or actually dilute the keyword? What you think?

We can't figure out why competitors have better position(s) in Google
We are using MOZ analytics for some days now, and it really helps us with important information about our rankings.

I hope you guys can help us out with the following particular case; In google.nl (dutch) we rank position #18 with the following searchterm 'sphinx 345' one of our competitors rank position #3.
We used the MOZ On Page Grade tool to find out some details about the two pages:
Our page #18: http://goo.gl/cTsbmI
Competitor page #3: http://goo.gl/qk21sM Our page hits an A and Keyword usage for "sphinx 345" = 52
The competitors page hits an A too and Keyword usage for "sphinx 345" = 45 About the link structure; for our page there is no link data found in Open Site Explorer. The url exists about a year and a half now.
I'm also very sure we have many internal links to this url.
Does Google and other crawlers have a hard time to crawl our site?(it's a Magento site, our competitors do have custom-made e-commerce systems, maybe that has something to do with it?) As i were saying;we can't figure this out. I hope you guys can help to get us any further. Regards, Wilco0 -
Walking into a site I didn't build, easy way to fix this # indexing problem?
I recently joined a team with a site without a) Great content b) Not much of any search traffic I looked and all their url's are built in this way: Normal looking link -> not actually a new page but # like: /#content-title And it has no h1 tag. Page doesn't refresh. My initial thought is to gut the site and build it in wordpress, but first have to ask, is there a way to make a site with /#/ content loading friendly to search engines?

H2's are already ranking well. Should I rock the boat?
I recently began work for a company and discovered that they are not using h1's (using h2's) and rank in the top 5 for ~90% of their keywords. The site is one of the original players in their industry, has massive amounts of domain authority and tens of thousands of linking root domains. However, they are currently being beaten on some of their top keywords by a few of their younger competitors. Moving their current h2 text into h1 tags could be helpful. But to what extent? Since they already rank well for so many competitive keywords, Is it worth it to rock the boat by moving their h2 text into h1 tags and risk affecting their current rankings?

Keywords
Hi All, If I had a site about a cartoon character (for example). When I add keywords to the 'keywords' meta tag, would I be best to put specific phrases such as Cartoon Character, Cartoon Character on TV, Cartoon Character on Television or would the following have the same effect: Cartoon Character, Tv, Movie, Television I was wondering if having the above instance might be less effective as the search engines might read TV, Movie, Television as less relevant to Cartoon Character. Hope that makes sense! 🙂

Duplicate titles OK if page don't need to rank well?
I know It is not a good idea to have duplicate titles across a website on pages as Google does not like this. Is it ok to have duplicate titles on pages that aren't being optimised with SERP's in mind? or could this have a negative effect on the pages that are being optimised?
