Getting started with Social media promotion
-
Hey Guys,
I created a facebook fan page and I created a twitter account. I'm following about 175 people on twitter and 30 people returned the follow.
Now what? How can I keep building? Any tools to help me?

It happens, and I wouldn't say it's "bad" as such if it's done in the right way. Twitter is quite big on Follow Spam and I believe there are limits as to the number of new follows an account can carry out in a day.
Think of it as a value proposition you're making to someone -- you're approaching them and saying, "I see you follow company A. I'm suggesting you also follow company B."
What value do they immediately see when they quickly view your profile, your stats, and most importantly the content you've been sharing?
If you've got a tweet stream with a good amount of well-presented, varied content most of which isn't self-serving or promotional, you stand a better chance of getting the Follow back.
I guess it boils down to the idea of spending time creating your prescence and voice before going all-out on increasing the audience by any means necessary.

Subquestion: Is it bad to follow a bunch of people on twitter, to get followers too?

Thanks for the response Rand!
I'm really looking for industry recognition, if any traffic make it to the site for a sale, that’s a bonus.
It just feels so spammy to following a bunch of people, to get them to follow me.

It really depends on your goals from here. Are you looking to boost traffic from social sites? If so, you're going to want to learn what your audience wants and start creating it, sharing it and participating in conversations on these platforms to earn their trust and engagement.
If your goal is to provide customer service and reputation tracking/management, you can set up alerts through services like Google Alerts (www.google.com/alerts) and many other services (this Quora thread is quite helpful on tools that can assist on that front: http://www.quora.com/Are-there-any-free-tools-available-to-track-Twitter-mentions-and-ideally-sentiment)
If you're seeking to boost SEO rankings using social media, you'll need to build up an engaged contingent of friends/followers who will share/like/tweet your content.

Wow, I can get a lot of Facebook likes quickly!
I did some testing with Facebook ads and resulting Facebook likes on target pages. And something is wrong! Just after creating the ad, before the ad was approved, I could get many likes on the target page without even seeing any traffic on server logs or google analytics. I documented my tests here. I repeated the tests 6 times, every time I could get tens of likes on the target page within seconds and without any approval of the ad. These pages have little traffic and there's no way these likes could have been natural! Everyone I reported was able to reproduce it, try yourself. A little update. I found others reporting un-expected Likes pouring... But at least they were "running" the ad, so externals to Facebook could have seen it and decided to Like it to later offer "liking" service as reported from this fellow. But in my case the ad was not approved... So... Who can see it beside me and Facebook?

We got 10,000 facebook likes overnight from people in another country. WHY? How do I get rid of them?
Our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/MobileAttic received more than 10,000 likes over night. We only had about 250 likes prior to this. I know this hurts our engagement numbers as well as limits real customers / community from seeing our posts. Is there any way to get our fans down to a real "non-spammed" number?

Deleting Poor Performing Social Media Accounts for Businesses?
I'm the Internet Marketing Manager for an ad agency and in charge of not only our social media and SEO but advising and hooking up clients with successful campaigns. I've taken the liberty of signing us up for almost every major social media account. Some are very successful (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn, Vimeo is ok (we use it over YouTube), Vine is picking up) and others are very not doing well (Flickr, Foursquare, YouTube really is low, Google+ is very mediocre). I’ve been wondering if it would be more beneficial to just delete certain accounts. I think I need to keep Google+ (Google values it and we are not doing terribly on it) but all the others listed in the bad column I think are really cancerous to our SEO (and make us look bad b/c we are doing poorly on them) but I really don’t know. I used them kind of to see if they would work for us and to demonstrate that we knew what we were doing in these social networks, but I think they may be doing us more harm than good both from a PR standpoint and SEO. Doesn't it hurt your website for Google to see poor performing social media accounts, just as the opposite would be true (good sm accounts and mention/activity would give you klout & SEO...)? What do you think? I'm no novice but no master either. Love this forum. Thanks in advance.

Social Media and Local Search results
Hello, I have profiles in several social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. When I search with my name on google.com the profiles are showing on the first page, but when I do a local search, the profiles start showing in the end of the second page. I'm very active in my social media profiles, and I don't know why is this happening. How long does it take for the profiles to show on the first page in local search? Can I do anything to speed up the process?

Social Media Marketing focus and priorities for SEO
Hello Mozzers, I'm looking at Social Media Marketing and wondering what counts for most in terms of SEO - (A) shares and likes from specific web pages, or (B) followers, likes, etc., on social media profile pages? What does Google measure vis-a-vis your website? Also, regarding Twitter, if a twitterer forwards on a tweet manually (by inserting RT) - and his RT is then shared, does that count for anything, or is it better for clients if RTweeters simply press the RT button. And should I include URLs in tweets, facebook posts, etc? And do backlinks help beyond increasing website visitor numbers - do any of the social media marketing tools pass juice back to websites via backlinks? Thanks in advance :), Luke

Why do people try to get random pictures on the first page of reddit?
I'm fascinated with reddit. Yesterday I did an IAMA and got lots and lots of comments. In the comments I was able to refer back to some pages in my website which got me some traffic. I can see the benefit of getting your website featured on reddit. But, I'm wondering how people benefit from putting random pictures on reddit (that don't link to their sites at all.) Is there something that can be done with the link karma that you get? Am I missing something? btw...I just posted a random picture on reddit just for fun as I realized that my daughter has reddit pajamas: http://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/k5kv3/i_just_noticed_that_my_daughter_has_reddit_pajamas/

How much is enough when it comes to Social Media?
I have attended a number of social media webinars with tips on getting the most out of Facebook and Twitter. Now, I would like opinions from someone who is not trying to sell me something. We post 2 daily blog articles to our Facebook company page which auto re-posts to Twitter every day. Is that enough, or is it necessary to hire someone to engage people with additional conversation? If your answer is that additional conversation is needed, are there any companies or individuals that you recommend to provide these services at a reasonable cost?
