$1,500 question
-
I have $1,500 to spend to promote 8 years old website.
Almost no SEO work was done for the site in the past 3-4 years. The site has a couple hundreds (around 300) external backlinks pointing to the homepage, and around 30 backlinks pointing to internal pages. It gets around 60% traffic from referring sites, 30% direct, and 10% from SE. The homepage has PR 4. It ranks around 70th place in Google rankings for one of the main keywords. No keyword research has been done for the site. Looking for long term benefits.
What would be the best way, in your opinion, to spend this money?

Thanks, I emailed you.

Fair enough. Like you said without knowing the website you can't give anything else then general recommendations.
Not really sure where to go from here. Do you offer private consultation for somebody like me?

Without seeing your site, understanding your product niche, knowing your customer base, etc. any advice offered is completely blind.
Your focus is promoting your site to build traffic. This can happen through SEO, SEM, social networking promtion or ads, and almost any sort of marketing. You can make a viral video or a bumper sticker which says "LionsFan.com" (if that was your site). The possibilities are almost endless.
Without any idea of your market, I am not willing to make any specific recommendations.

Thanks for the answer Ryan.
In the past few months I improved the site's design and content considerably, and there is not too much room for improvement in that area anymore. There are always things to improve, off course, but not too much, and not something that will change revenue drastically.
In other words the site is ready for some minor work on design and content , and at the same time there is a lot of room in figuring out ways of bringing quality visitors to the site. I would like to spend these $1,500 to bring quality visitors to the site, and spread the word around. Any ideas about what would be a good $1,500 investment in this area?
What would be a desirable bounce rate? This site has around 50% right now.

The first step I would recommend is to examine the site itself.
Any form of promotion depends on what visitors find when they arrive at the site. No matter how good your site appears, you will retain a percentage of visitors while others will not be happy and move on. You want to retain the highest percent of visitors possible, and convert them towards whatever your site goals are such as sell a product/service, complete a form, register, etc.
Site improvements vary greatly depending on the site. A few possibilities are improved layout, A/B testing, logo or art work, design work, social integration and acquiring trust symbols. Anything change you can make to better connect with visitors and earn their trust would be beneficial.
Once your site is solid, the next step is content. You could generate new content, infographics, images, videos, etc.
Only once you have a well designed site and some solid content which visitors will want to see would I recommend working on promoting the site. Until you reach this point, there is too much leakage (i.e. bounced visitors) to promote most sites.

Should I keep, or disavow PA 1 DA 0 backlink?
Hi, I am doing link cleaning, and still a bit new to this, and would appreciate the community's help 🙂 So, I have a site which has quite a lot of low DA (or no DA) follow backlinks. BUT, the links are from my niche the sites are not spammy the anchors are okay and they are from good Geo location for me The only negative thing is that these sites are a bit "dead" meaning that there is no new content, and thus there is no traffic or clicks coming from them. Should I keep those links or disavow them? To me these links are natural, but do they help me at all.... FYI I have plenty of good DA links. But what do you guys think, if I disavow all these low DA backlinks, does Google think that I am trying to manipulate my backlink structure to look better than it naturally is? Cheers guys and girls! 🙂

Migration developer question
Hi Guys, We are in the process of migrating our website and are moving to: AWS/Elastic Beanstalk hosting and the only way to do a custom domain with a third-party (not Amazon) DNS Service is by setting up a CNAME that points to the EBS Instance. Do you think this will impact SEO performance in any way? Cheers.

We killed our SEO, but how come some of our keywords are still in the top 1-3
I am looking for the answer for this interesting question: 1. I have a static page with NO information on it, this is almost completelyblank, only a search box on it, which does nothing! The information it contains is absolutely zero, but the page has got a specific URL which is = the keyword i will look for 2. And i have another page which is fully optimized with the help of on page grader (97%) for anoter specific keyword Q, in case of 1: Searching in google for a keyword which is = the page www.domain.hu/keyword, and i will have top 1-3 serp!???? (i say it again, the page contains no information...and the keyword is really frequent, in google adwords it says that this keyword which has got high competition) in case of 2. i have the /url which is completely the same as the keyword, have 97% on page grade, and i see that week by week i can only move upwards a little in the serp. Created unique content a lot, made several changes on this page and like no position changing. So the question is WHY in case 1 i can be with no information in (empty static page) top 1-3 for a really hard keyword, and why i cannot move upward on the list for a not so frequent keyword however i did everything i could??

Technical 301 question
Howdy all, this has been bugging me for a while and I wanted to know the communities ideas on this. We have a .com website which has a little domain authority and is growing steadily. We are a UK business (but have a US office which we will be adapting too soon) We are ranking better within google.com than we do on google.co.uk probably down to our TLD. Is it a wise idea to 301 our .com to .co.uk for en-gb enquiries only? Is there any evidence that this will help improve our position? will all the link juice passed from 301s go to our .co.uk only if we are still applying the use of .com in the US? Many thanks and hope this isn't too complicated! Best wishes,

3 Wordpress sites 1 Tumblr site coming under 1domain(4subdomains) WPMU: Proper Redirect?
Hey Guys, witnessSF.org (WP), witnessLA.org(Tumblr), witnessTO.com(WP), witnessHK.com(WP), and witnessSEOUL.com(new site no redirects needed) are being moved over to sf.ourwitness.com, la.ourwitness.com and so forth. All under on large Wordpress MU instance. Some have hundreds of articles/links others a bit less. What is the best method to take, I understand there are easy redirects, and the complete fully manual one link at a time approach. Even the WP to WP the permalinks are changing from domain.com/date/post-name to domain.com/post-name? Here are some options: Just redirect all previous witinessla.org/* to la.ourwitness.org/ (automatic direct all pages to home page deal) (easiest not the best)2) Download Google Analytics top redirected domains about 50 urls have significant ranking and traffic (in LA's sample) and just redirect those to custom links. (most bang for the buck for the articles that rank manually set up to the correct place) 3) Best of the both worlds may be possible? Automated perhaps?I prefer working with .htaccess vs a redirect plugin for speed issues. Please advise. Thanks guys!

This is kind of a trick question, but if you could only do ONE thing to improve your search ranking what would you do?

Did adding product videos cause my products to lose #1 position?
I work on an e-commerce site and for many of the products we sell, we rank #1 for "product name + item number" related searches. We decided to add product videos to some of our products in the hopes of getting an additional listing in the SERP's (regular listing + video listing in universal video results) Instead.. What we've noticed is that sometimes we are not getting 2 listings but just a regular listing with a video thumbnail that ranks somewhere on the middle of the first page. The video thumbnail is great.. but I'd rather the #1 position. I don't think Google likes to show video results as the #1 position for obvious product searches. What do you think? Did we lose our #1 position because of adding the videos to our product pages? Any advice or similar experiences? ~~ Additional information: On some of those queries, Google had decided to ignore our video and we have maintained our #1 ranking. Thanks!

On Page question
HI folks, I have a warning that I have missing meta tag descriptions on two pages. 1) http://bluetea.com.au/wp-login.php 2) http://bluetea.com.au/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword Is this something I should just ignore? Or is there a best practice I should be implementing? Thank you for your time
