Is canonical link enough?
-
Hi SEOmozers!
I have a question.
SEOmoz analysis report me some duplicate that I thought I had fix.
I can give a concrete example.
This page:
http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/events/dec2011training-boston/moreinfo
is reported as having 6 duplicated URL in the tool. When I click on 6, SEOMOZ tells me "Our crawl bots are getting their joints greased to fetch you even better data. Sorry for the delay!"
And on the page itself, I placed a canonical link to follow recommandation.
rel="canonical" href="http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/events/apr2012training-boston" />
As a result I am curious why I would have this reported as duplicate by SEOmoz.
Is this a bug?
Thanks for feedback!

Looks like we had a minor bug and it got fixed last night - you should be able to see the duplicates now. I checked out a couple, and we're crawling a few tracking parameters in URLs, such as:
utm_source=enews&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=enews20120117
Looks like these might be links in an e-mail newsletter? The good news is that Google is pretty good about ignoring these, and it looks like your canonical tag is properly configured. I think we may be reporting these too aggressively. As far as I can tell, you should be ok.

Unfortunately, it looks like we haven't completed the full crawl on your site yet, although I'll ask the team.
I am seeing another page rank in Google for the Title:
"Nuxeo Document Management December 2011 Training"
It's this one:
http://www.nuxeo.com/en/layout/set/print/about/events/dec2011training-boston
I have a feeling that, with all of the forms and date variations, you're creating near-duplicates that are low-value. These aren't 100% duplicated, but it's enough that Google is filtering out the main page.

Greetings Champions!
I could be blind or weary from slaying dragons but it appears the your Canonical link is not even in place to resolve this burden placed upon you good sir.

Here is an Example of what the source with a canonical link looks like.

Good luck on your quest for Page 1!

You are producing duplicate content on the monthly pages e.g.
http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/events/apr2012training-boston
http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/events/jan2012training-boston
Cut and paste a chunk of the page text into the Google search box, you will then see all the duplicates being indexed by Google.

Tumblr and Link Equity
Hi Moz Community, I've recently decided to start a project where I gather 1,000 great examples of something that's searched for often, and am thinking that posting it to a Tumblr site like the following website did could be a great way to pass link equity back to my main site (with a little "site by [my site]" somewhere in the header or footer). While I was super pumped about this idea today, and have now gathered almost 500 of my examples (mentioned above), I am not seeing link equity passed from this site, even on the non-redirected links here: http://gothamlogos.tumblr.com/ Anyone have any experience with projects like this? I've checked read the Moz Tumblr and SEO article from a few years ago, which makes it seem like this should be an SEO "win"... But using the Moz Pro account tools, I'm not seeing any of these non-redirect links (ordinary links) giving any value to anyone on this example site. Thanks so much in advance, Zack

How to know exactly which page links to a 404 page on my website?
Hi Moz users, Sometimes I get 404 crawl errors using Moz Pro and when my website has a few dozen pages it is hard for me to find the original page that links to a 404 page. Is there a way to find this automatically using Moz or do I have to look for it manually? I just need to find the original link and delete it to fix my 404 issue. Please let me know thank you for you help. -Marc

OK I'll try again.... Linking root domains and external links
I'm new to the crawl test tool, I think I know what is meant by external links and linking root domains but I need to check. If there are 500 external links and 50 linking root domains does that suggest the essentially those 500 links are coming from 50 root domains? If yes, then what would 1000 linking root domains and 100 links mean? Or am I completely wrong in my assumptions and if so, can somebody point me in the right direction? Thank you.

On page links tool here at Seomoz
Hi Seomoz - first of all, thanks for the best SEO tools I have ever worked with (this is my first question in this forum, and also I just subscribed as a paying customer after the 30 days trial you guys offer). My question: After having worked for several weeks on getting the numbers of links in our forum on www.texaspoker.dk down, we are somewhat surprised to see that we didn't succeed in getting lower numbers. For instance, this page: http://www.texaspoker.dk/forum/aktuelle-konkurrencer/coaching-projekt-bliver-du-den-udvalgte has (that's what Seomoz seo tool tells us): 239 on page links. Can this really be true? We can't find these links, and we actuually did a lot to lower the numbers of links, for instance the forum members picture was a link before, and also there was a "go to top" link in each post in the forum. Thanks a lot.

Duplicate content & canonicals
Hi, Working on a website for a company that works in different european countries. The setup is like this: www.website.eu/nl
Moz Pro | | nvs.nim
www.website.eu/be
www.website.eu/fr
... You see that every country has it's own subdir, but NL & BE share the same language, dutch... The copywriter wrote some unique content for NL and for BE, but it isn't possible to write unique for every product detail page because it's pretty technical stuff that goes into those pages. Now we want to add canonical tags to those identical product pages. Do we point the canonical on the /be products to /nl products or visa versa? Other question regarding SEOmoz: If we add canonical tags to x-pages, do they still appear in the Crawl Errors "duplicate page content", or do we have to do our own math and just do "duplicate page content" minus "Rel canonical" ?0 -
BOTW links not recognized by Open Site Explorer
Hi there, I was wondering if I buy a submission to the Best of the Web directory (waiting for the new directory list promised by the seomoz team 🙂 ) but when I get to the category on BOTW website that will fit for my website, I took some links already there and put them on open site explorer to see their value, I had the surprise they are not even recognized... So I am still wondering if it is worth or not... voilà , if anybody knows if this directory still has value...

Open Site Explorer missing links
Hi, When the update of Open Site Explorer was released I noticed that the new version was missing a huge amount of links that the old version previously found. This still seems to be the case and it's pretty frustrating as we use the tool for our clients. Is this something that everybody is seeing and if so SEOMoz when do you think you'll have a solution? Many thanks
