Footer NAP Hurt Local Optimization?
-
Big city A is the target optimization for services.
Suburb city B is the location of the business.
Will the NAP of the business in the footer negatively impact on-page optimization for Big city A?
-
Thanks Miriam.
Another thread suggested (and a couple reputable users said it works) to optimize the site for major city A and create a sub-directory for 2, 5 or 10 other city pages. I get the approach but what do you do with the footer NAP?
I asked for clarity in the other thread but got no takers.
So I'll ask here. For this type of optimization to work, would you have to strip the NAP from the footer for big city A site optimization AND the sub-directory individual city optimization?
Or can you leave the NAP on all the pages (sub-directory pages included) and just have strong page optimization above the footer throughout?
I'm not knowledgeable in root/sub-directory setups so I may not be asking sensible questions.

If this is a local business (rather than a virtual one) and the goal is Local rankings, then Google is going to see the business as most relevant to its city of location, regardless of how you optimize the website. Presumably you will be listing the physical address in the suburbs on the Google+ Local page and on various directory listings and Google will most strongly associate the business name with this location - not with a nearby desired major city. So, unless the business completely forgoes Local SEO of any kind, doesn't publish an address anywhere and only pursues organic results instead of local ones, Google will see the business as most relevant to its city of location and commonly rank it in local results for searches containing the City B term or stemming from City B-based devices. Organic rankings for City A will have to be seen as a secondary goal. Hope this helps!

Local Sitelinks
Does anyone know how organic local site links work? The examples I'm looking at are from Yelp and Angie'sList. When you run a brand search, some sitelinks reference my current location and takes me to a regional landing page. My company has landing pages for major cities across the U.S. but they never get picked up as a sitelink like this. I don't see local links anywhere on the AngiesList or Yelp homepages so I don't know how Google knows to prioritize these pages. We are also a national review site, so we have no interest in showing up in the local pack, etc. Any thoughts would be super helpful! Thanks

Yoast local landing...posts?
Hey Moz squad. I do some seo work for a multi location locksmith and garage door service. On our locksmith website - We just use regular word press landing pages for all of our different city cities. (btw if anyone has a good site architecture tips blog they know about, Send it my way!) So with our Garage door site, we bought the yoast local plugin. And it wants to make our locations Blog posts instead of pages. NOW what do you guys think. Does it matter? I know I have less control on how a blog post looks. But I'm just looking for different opinions. Thanks loves.

Facebook page optimization
I'm working with a client who is "under attack" by one unhappy customer. That customer created a Facebook page to share her outrage, and her page is outranking my client's (consistently immediately above his FB page). I've checked all of the obvious things... page name page URL About section, and all business-related data He has MANY more "Likes" than she does, makes posts far more frequently (with much better Engagement), references his company name in almost every Post (as she does), and on and on. My main question is this... are there one or two factors that seem to have the most impact on how a given FB page ranks? Thanks for your help, Moz family! 🙂

Local SEO tips
Hi! I'm working on http://www.hgsplumbingandheating.co.uk/ at the moment, and it's going pretty well for local terms such as 'Norwich plumber' etc. Has anyone got any tips though on how it can be improved, especially with regard to getting the homepage ranking above the Places listings? Thanks!

Do UTM URL parameters hurt SEO backlink value?
Does www.example.com and www.example.com/?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Press+Release&utm_campaign=Google have the same SEO backlink value? I would assume that Google knows the difference.

Local SEO Plus Performance Based Pay Per Call Multiple Phone Numbers
In my learning about Local SEO recently, I keep reading the importance of NAP (name, address, phone number). But what if you are only using different phone numbers because you are tracking pay per call. How would set up my Local SEO strategy? The newest phone numbers are NOT going to match all the websites, social media and previous listing in directories, etc. Is this a bad move? Should I suggest that we do one or the other going forward with other clients but not both? Thanks a lot...

How to position in local Google
Hello, It's been easy for me to jump in .com - English only results. But, regional google is making me problems. How to position there? What are the top 3 key elements for ranking locally that don't matter much internationally? Thanks!
