What is the best SEO Plug-in for Wordpress? What is the best SEO Plug-in for Wordpress?
-
I manage a Wordpress site and I am interested to get the community's views on the best SEO plug-ins around? We are looking at using Yoast. Should I be looking at anything else?
-
Another vote for Yoast SEO Plugin, there is a premium version now, but dont think this means the free is in some form a limited plugin it is still a full featured polished product that works well. (Premium offers better support, and redirect module, which can be used free by another plugin)

Yoast is better for a number of reasons. The main one is being able to really nail down custom category titles, which is important if you organise your blog this way. AIOSEO is a very good plugin but yeah, Yoast wins.
Also, see a full test just recently completed by a top Moz contributor, Dan Shure:

I also vote for Yoast.
Plugins are all about ease of use and efficient features, it has it all.
I love that we can see how the page will look on Google, and I love how it gives advices on : you may turn on or off this feature.
Let me know what you choose

Thanks

I knew you would! Good luck with your project (s).

Thanks Travis. I'll be sure to review the SEO manually as well.
-
Thanks Patrick that's really helpful. I'll be sure to check it out.
-
I also use Yoast for every website. I tried a few other plugins but i switched back to Yoast a few month ago because of the very good XML sitemap and breadcrumbs implementation.
-
My vote goes to Yoast. I do urge you to manually review the SEO of your site as well since any plugin cannot optimize your site entirely.

Conor,
Yoast is a good plugin and I know a lot of people use it, but honestly, I find the All In One SEO Pack to be awesome! We use it on almost every website we develop. Check it out and install it to play around with the setup. Here are some resource links to review. We love it and hope this helps in your search! - Patrick

No-index or 301 - custom wordpress archives
Hi, We are using custom wordpresss posts to showcase different services we provide, these are then grouped within custom archives. These custom archive pages are our main keyword landing pages and traffic generators (although ranking is fairly average). It's come to my attention that these custom posts have also been listed in the wordpress standard categories, with an identical title, excerpts and near identical urls as the custom archives. This appears to have been the case for quite a while. We are concerned that this is may causing duplicate content issues and unsure how to proceed. We have been advised to simply no-index the redundant 'standard' categories but as they have been indexed for some time we are cautious of causing any upset with search engines (although the categories are indexed they are not ranking for any major keywords) Are we best 301ing the redundant category to the custom archives or using a canonical tags or simply no-indexing the categories like other archive pages? Any advice is aprreciated Many thanks BC

Assigning Locations to Wordpress from SEO Perspective?
I am looking for a way to split up and assign my 400 Wordpress posts to my business' four separate office locations. The four offices are in four separate areas with distinct city names. What way makes the most sense from an SEO perspective - assigning the city names as categories? adding the location as a tag, or some other way that I haven't considered? Currently, all posts are categorized by content and have no mention of location. Happy to answer any questions you might need in order to answer. Thank you!

Spanish version of site - best practice?
I need to create a Spanish version of an existing site. My idea was to have the Spanish content switch out the English content if the query string had something like ?l=es. It would also drop a cookie so that all other pages would switch out content as well. I do want the Spanish content to be indexed and rank in the search engines, though. I would include all of the Spanish versions (with the ?l=es) in the site map and link to them on every page with a link to the Spanish version. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this a bad idea? Thanks! Tom

Page Title in Local SEO Title Tags?
Hi All, Still working on my title tag usage for local SEO, and I was hoping for some more feedback. My question is this: In Local SEO titles, I'm using location + keyword combinations, unique on each page. However, since each page has a specific title for the client, I figure I should be placing that at the front. My thought here was that this helps with the overall usability to the reader of the website. Ex. Contact Us page for Pizza shop Contact Us | Springfield IN Gourmet Pizza | Moe's Italian Pizza Anyone have thoughts on this one? Thank you!

Advantages of wordpress over dreamweaver
I have a site that I have built with dreamweaver (local service business not a lot of new content needing to be added) and I am curious how much of an advantage for me converting it to wordpresss would be. I see that cs5 works with wordpress and that lynda.com has a tutorial on integrating the two. I would like to integrate a blog into my site, but it is not totally critical that I do so. I would just like to hear what some of you experienced users have to say about the advantages of wordpress vs dreamweaver from an SEO prospective.

Should I bother with branded keywords in my onsite SEO improvements?
Someone recently told me that using branded keywords extensively in your copy and titles may be unnecessary so long as you have a substantial catalog of back links containing keyword rich anchor text. Can I take this to mean I can privilege non-branded terms over branded in my onsite SEO efforts?
