What exactly "monthly searches" from Google Adwords teach us?
-
I have noticed that monthly searches of our "brand" in last five years is almost same. But I can see our competitors have increased their brand searched for monthly in last few years. They are gaining popularity slowly where we are not. What are the other things we can learn when users searching for our brand are not increasing?
Thanks

I believe you already understand the answer. Through my experience with google Adwords, and learning much of my Adwords campaign skills for marketing veterans such Tommy Griffith. My understanding is that Monthly Searches are to be treated more as trends rather than accurate numbers. However, those trends seem to be precise and a meaningful to gauge size and market share.
I am going to suggest you dig into what kind of brand awareness campaigns your competitors have been executing on and what kind of marketing they're doing in general.
My observation is that given the total market share size combined with your marketing efforts and churn rate 5000 search is a rough estimate of what your brand is capable of acquiring in regards to Search Share at a given period of time.
Perhaps you should modify or get started on a brand awareness strategy.

Hi vtmoz,
This is an interesting question.
To me, there are 2 big nuances here which are important to understanding to properly answer your question:
- What industry are you in? If you were a restaurant that just opened 12 months ago, then you would hope that branded searches are increasing over time as this would correlate with an increase in awareness/demand for your offering. However, if you were a tow truck company, something that people only contact when they need it - then you wouldn't expect branded searches to change much.
- Where do you currently spend your budget? If you are spending in on direct response advertising like unbranded PPC then you wouldn't expect it to move the needle much on branded search. However, if you were investing heavily in 'branding' and 'awareness' type advertising then you would want branded searches to be increasing.
Hopefully, this helps.

Hi vtmoz,
If people are searching directly for a brand it means that this brand is on front of their mind when they are searching for the products and service supplied by this brand.
How to brands gain exposure and increase searches for their brands directly. I think this is probably more of an out reach campaign. Social media, tv ads, radio ads, literature such as rack cards and circulars sent through mail.
Maybe there social media strategy is directly engaging with the client base and their message is sinking in.
If competitors brands are increasing monthly search and yours is not, it is time to increase your brands exposure.
Thanks,
Don

Facebook page not appearing in search results
Could anyone give a reason as to why a facebook page wouldn't be appearing in search results? - I've setup numerous facebook Pages for businesses and they usually get indexed and start appearing in the SERPs for their respective name/brand name relatively quickly, but have a Page for a business (which has even been quite active recently) and it's nowhere to be seen in Google's results (not even on a search for the complete URL). Any thoughts appreciated, thanks. Greg

Redesigning a Site - What Optimizations are "Must Haves"?
I'm psyched - a client has just approved a complete redesign of their site! Feel like a have a little bag of gold in my hand, and want to spend it wisely. My question to you, fellow Mozzers, is what elements would you make sure to include a site to make it as optimized as possible? A few details about the site: 1. It is an informational site, designed to generate leads for a medical product. No products for sale, no e-commerce functionality needed. 2. The site has approximately 250 pages. Last site update was in 2009. 3. Videos are an important part of their marketing strategy. In addition to shortening their URL structure (some URLs have 6-7 folders, ugh), I plan to utilize schemas and incorporate mobile responsive design. What other areas would you prioritize for optimization? Thanks, Allie

Loop-hole to Google's Penguin update? Anyone else have some input?
So I have this theory and I’m wondering if anyone else has some input. I believe I have found a loop-hole to Google’s Penguin update. Let me explain. I work for a pretty competitive party planning company. Our biggest competitor for search is also our bread and butter to our company, our consultants. In addition to outside competitors trying to manipulate business from those consultants. Anyways, one of my top priorities is to not only rank for multiple pages on our site, but to also have our social sites rank on the first two pages. Recently I have watched a spamming MLM YouTube video review of our company crawl up the YouTube charts and out rank us for our Company name in YouTube search. And now, this week, the video has crawled up to rank 3rd behind our main site and Wikipedia for our brand keyword! So how does a YouTube video that is simply a review out rank us for our company name in our social platforms? Mind you he is also outranking our core social sites of which we have thousands of comments and interactions on per day? Looking at all of the metrics of the video, according to how I believe ranking to work in Youtube, there is no way this guy should be ranking as high as he is. The video has a decent amount of copy, it has fewer than 10,000 views, 76 thumbs up, 5 thumbs down, fewer than 2,000 subscribers and his channel only has 12 videos. It wasn’t until I was looking at our search results in Seomoz that I realized what this guy was doing to move up so quickly in rankings. He has 1,671 linking root domains to his video. He has been building excessive links to this video on Youtube. Well, since Google isn’t going to penalize its own website, the old technique of excessively building links to one page… seems to be working. Has anyone else come across something like this? Where building excessive links to a video or other social platform substantially has increased rankings?

It's been 2 Months and Google STILL shows my Old URL, why? (help please)
First i just want to say the 301s, change of address and nearly all outer links are changed to the new url since early september. Let me give you an example... Query: Custom Sweatbands Ranking URL: www.stbands.com/custom-sweatbands/ **Correct URL that it is 301'd to for over 2 months now: **www.customonit.com/custom-sweatbands/ More... new sitemap has been submitted since the beginning. The old website www.stbands.com doesn't even exist anymore, in fact at the beginning of this month I got pretty angry and blocked search engines via the robots txt for the old domain. Any way I can get Google to catch on? Thanks in advance!

Change Primary Image on Google+Local
My old logo did not fit well in the new Google+Local page and so I resized it and uploaded it a couple weeks ago using the Google Places admin tool. I have tried it on multiple locations but it does not show up on the actual Google+ page. The images do show up in the admin tool (so it wasn't that the logo didn't upload properly). I changed the description text to see if any changes were going through and those appeared after about 24 hours. Anyone been able to successfully upload new images to Google+Local?
