Domain Authority Question

So in looking at my first campaign with 3 of my top competitors, I have a domain authority of 65, and my competitors are 31, 43, and 38 and yet all of them outrank me by quite a bit.
How can I take this research and make some sense of it to beat them in rankings?

That's a bold assumption. But I'll make not of it.

My best bet is that you're using an old, out-dated version of osCommerce. At any rate, I would venture that you're code is horrendous.
Remove all nested tables, inline css, inline js, combine and minify all external files etc.

Here's the thing
I have an ecommerce site, so I"m trying to figure out how to get more valuable content (text) on homepage, product pages, etc. Any ideas?
Also, I do have over 100 unique articles and over 100 blog posts that are internally linked on site linked from home via an articles link and blog link, so is that the kind of content you are referring too?

Yeah, the anchor text backlinks are quite important to rank specific pages and keywords.

I think that this is an academic question... and academic questions usually do not produce revenue. Just an opinion. I would work on content instead.

Hi Azguy, we had a similar problem and found a simple fix, The keywords we were outranked for with the competitiors were mainly their anchor text for their backlinks. The backlinks we focussed on where not as emphasized as our competitors. P.S nice going with 65, keep up the good work

You'll want to look at more than just domain authority and instead address things more granularly. Look at your top pages according to OSE of your site and compare how they're aligned with your targeted keywords. Also, check the backlinks of those competitors and see where they're getting links that you're not. (http://www.seomoz.org/labs/link-intersect) On site, you should check things like navigation (do you have clearly labeled, keyword targeted navigation, or is it locked up in flash), does your site load without javascript turned on, do you have any weird redirects in place (302, javascript, etc), are your site URLs full of session variables, and so on.

You could have a look at the full rapports as generated by the keyword difficulty tool by SEOmoz.
It provides a pretty complete pictures of many of the factors at play (on-page optimization, inlinking data, anchor text distribution, etc.) and might help you to figure out what is causing these lower DA domains to outrank you.

What is the relationship between inbound links and linking domains?
In doing competitor research, there's a specific competitor that has fewer linking domains, but dramatically more inbound links. How do these two relate to each other? I do have a higher domain authority and more internal followed links with them having more internal nofollow and external (both follow and nofollow) links. I'm trying to understand how they can have 3.7k linking domains and 4.8 million inbound links while I have 4.1k linking domains and only 601k inbound links. What really defines an inbound link and what's there relationship between inbound links and linking domains?

Question about the Playback Locations report in YouTube Analytics
We have several hundred YouTube videos. In the Playback Report section in YouTube analytics, I can see a list of sites where people have viewed our videos. Some of the sites listed are competitors. The report does not show the URL of the page where the video is embedded. Is there a way to find this information? I have already tried using Google to search for the URL, but I'm thinking this isn't going to search the source code and the video URL isn't going to appear on the page anywhere. Any ideas? Thanks!

Rankings & Linking Root Domains
How are the Linking Root Domains under Keyword Rankings being found? We've noticed for many of our key terms that big brands like Amazon, eBay, Home Depot, etc. only list 1 linking root domain, while much smaller competitors in our industry have hundreds. Clearly big brands are going to get more links than a company most people haven't heard of and the idea that these companies only have 1 linking root domain to a specific subcategory on their site is not believable. What's going on here?

Slight keyword variation domain name
I have recently changed a clients domain name from a long (23 characters) to a shorter domain name that has a keyword plus a single character variation. For example and without revealing the clients real domain name, let say they are in housing. Ithe first letter in the company name is "p" so i created the doamin name as www.phousing.com It has only been two days since i submitted the new domain name and did a 301 redirect to the new page. When i do a google search i get back the result: housing.com and "did you mean housing.com Will this domain name cause me problems? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Understanding Competitive Domain Analysis
I'm finding this site great for getting at the information that I need but I am having trouble understanding what I see as conflicting Competitive Domain Analysis and keyword research results for companies in my sector. My company is new to the sector we are in and I am tracking two really well established leaders (Moma and Poppa bear) and one company that is new to the sector (baby Bear) too. When looking at the competitive domain analysis the Momma and Poppa Bear wipe the floor with baby bear (and of course me!) on every single criteria; but when I see who is actually ranking best for the most competitive keywords for our sector who wins...baby bear; I just dont understand it. Best Way to Consolidate Domains/Rankings After Purchase of Competitor
One of my customers is buying a competitor. The competitor has a site that usually ranks just 1-2 spots below the main site that we manage for them (our site has been up for about a year, and their's is 15-years old). I am wondering what is the best way to consolidate the rankings/websites to take advantage of the purchase of the competitor's web assets. I would love to leave both sites up and just get 2 top-25 links to our products, but with no more marketing being done under the competitor's name, I assume their rankings will degrade. Would a basic 301 re-direct on a page-by-page basis be enough to 'steal' all of the juice their domain name/site has built? Is there some other method of using an older domain to boost the rankings of a newer one (I am assuming they only rank as well as we do because of how long they've been active - all of our metrics are better than theirs across the board). for the exact search 'how to get a girlfriend' in google? How-to-get-a-girlfriend.com and howtogetagirlfriend.com are taken, so I just wanted to see if this was close enough to help google.
