Drop in rankings
-
Hey Mozzers,
In the past week 8 of my keywords have drastically dropped and I have no idea why. We had been doing link building campaign and things were lookign good.
We stopped it and crash, all the kerword rankings dropped.
Would be awesome if someone couls shed some light onto this one?
the site in question is www.gunshotdigital.com
thank you so much!
-
is there anyway to check if my links are bad and poor quality? how can I fix this? Thank you so much Devin.
-
yes, I stopped doing it. thank you for your reply by the way, I am pretty concerned now..
-
I agree with you completely, Anthony. But what I thought was strange here is that as their rankings dropped as soon as they stopped building these links. So maybe there is something else going on?
Otherwise it could just be a coincidental correlation - Google's spam detectors just caught up with Gunshot's backlinks around the same time as they ceased the campaign.

From a quick look in Open Site Explorer, it looks like a good bit of low quality link building. Random forum comments on unrelated topics, free-for-all social bookmarking submissions, links from directories that are really suspect, etc. Realistically, you might as well not do any link building if this is the quality you're going after - it'd be a better strategy.
I know it's tempting to get a lot of the easy links out there at first, but if you skip this step and focus all of your efforts on getting top quality backlinks, you'll end up with better results, and you'll thank yourself later when you're not spending time trying to clean up a crappy backlink profile.

Hey Vjay,
When you say you 'stopped it', what exactly did you do, or stop doing?

Unsolved Wild fluctuations in ranking, any thoughts on why or what to do about it?
We have a keyword which is important to us and used to have rock steady rankings for over a decade. Over the past 9 months or so it has been fluctuating all over the place. Jumping up or down 20 places or so overnight. Any thoughts on this behaviour and what we should be doing to stabilise the ranking?Screenshot 2024-05-13 at 09.47.jpg

Page Speed or Site Speed which one does Google considered a ranking signal
I've read many threads online which proves that website speed is a ranking factor. There's a friend whose website scores 44 (slow metric score) on Google Pagespeed Insights. Despite that his website is slow, he outranks me on Google search results. It confuses me that I optimized my website for speed, but my competitor's slow site outperforms me. On Six9ja.com, I did amazing work by getting my target score which is 100 (fast metric score) on Google Pagespeed Insights. Coming to my Google search console tool, they have shown that some of my pages have average scores, while some have slow scores. Google search console tool proves me wrong that none of my pages are fast. Then where did the fast metrics went? Could it be because I added three Adsense Javascript code to all my blog posts? If so, that means that Adsense code is slowing website speed performance despite having an async tag. I tested my blog post speed and I understand that my page speed reduced by 48 due to the 3 Adsense javascript codes added to it. I got 62 (Average metric score). Now, my site speed is=100, then my page speed=62 Does this mean that Google considers page speed rather than site speed as a ranking factor? No matter what we seem to do, we can never get higher up on Googles ranks. What gives?
We are in independent car dealer in a small(ish) town in Arkansas. No matter what we do, we can never seem to get past the second or third page on Google's ranks. We have a blog, we pay for SEO help from dealer vendors, we have consistent information on our site, etc. etc. . I'm at a loss. I don't know what else to do. Based on our Moz Site Crawl report, we have 185 pages that have duplicate content. However, these are pages that publish our auto check reports for inventory that potential customers request from our site. I guess these auto check reports expire because when I click on the link from the Moz report it says it can no longer be displayed and to contact the dealer (http://www.rathautoresources.com/autocheck.aspx?vin=1C6RR7KT4DS539140)

Huge Traffic Drop after 301, Keyword and Schema.org Fixes
Hello there, I'm first gonna explain what I did to my website: I was using a 302 redirect to send from http to https, fixed it to a 301. My url has a keyword and I was using many pages with keywords as well. ex) www.keywordhaha.com/keyword-the-best , www.keywordhaha.com/keyword-easiest-on-keyword-market Changed it to : www.keywordhaha.com/app , www.keywordhaha.com/games, etc... I was not using any crawler tools, so I added Schema.org, Json-LD and rdfa-node, which are all working properly. Synced my page with our Google+ page, which was recognised by Google Added a proper logo and fb:admins, and was recognised by facebook. After I did all this optimisations, I experienced an immediate traffic drop (10%) and my impressions/clicks according to the webmaster tools dropped 75%, in a 2 day period. Any ideas where there could have been a mistake? mPdhFdG.png

Spike in Direct visits with Drop in Google Organic Visits
Does anyone have an explanation for why Google organic visits plummeted while direct visits rose the same amount. Total visits have been very normal. jI1Bn2B,UuzONNK kepV0eu

Page Rank - logarithmic or exponential
Possibly a really stupid question. Is Page Rank logarithmic or exponential? I've seen a lot of people talking about Page Rank saying it's logarithmic but when they describe it they're actually talking about an exponential scale. (Apologies if I'm showing a basic misunderstanding in mathematical knowledge - I studied Drama)

Drop In Analytics
So I have a site that was getting about 200 hits (not a lot). They came to me and asked to do SEO. There were over 50 pages in HTML format so I created header/footers and changed the .html pages to .php. I set forwards up in the htaccess and everything. I did everything that I was suppose to. Now when I go to the analytics it almost looks like it lost all it's traffic from the keywords it was ranked in. Any ideas on why?
