Author Tag on Blogger - What am I Doing Wrong?!
-
Hi All,
I've just taken over handling our company's blog at http://www.cookwareblog.com.au/. We have several writers for this blog so I want to set up separate author tags for each of them.
As you can see from the latest post - http://www.cookwareblog.com.au/2012/06/weird-and-wacky-ice-cream-recipes.html - I am the author/publisher.
However, I can't seem to link my blogger author profile - http://www.blogger.com/profile/05603194922729243157 - to my Google Plus profile because when you go to my Blogger Profile it automatically redirects to my G+ profile. Also, there is no link directly from my blogger post, it just says "Posted by Brad Russell" (unlike previous posts by the master login for our company, which link to a central author profile page).
What am I doing wrong? Today I successfully set up author tags on my Wordpress blog, I just can't seem to get it right on Blogger.
Thanks!

Hi Jane,
It appears that the correct authors are now appearing in the SERPs.
All I did was make sure that each blogger was listed as a contributor and for each post I simply added "Written by Author Name - Author Name Google+". I linked the "Author Name Google +" to the respective G+ account and from the G+ account back to the blog under the 'Contributor To' field.
Anyway, all seems to be working now - just thought I'd reply in case anyone needs help in the future!
Many thanks,
Brad -
Hi Brad,
I don't think you're actually doing anything "wrong" here, but Blogger is not as flexible or advanced as Wordpress, and has shortcomings for both usability and SEO purposes. Are you trying to create re="author" tags so that they will display correctly in search results?
You can encase the Google Plus link in a rel="author" tag, and that should work, but I am concerned that there is not a way to set this up such that the "posted by Brad Russell" tag automatically links through.
Has the company thought about moving over to Wordpress for this blog? It generally makes life a lot easier!
Cheers,

Google SERP shows wrong (and inappropriate) thumbnail for Facebook videos?
Hello I'm running into a strange issue with at least one of my client's video. The video is posted on Facebook. When searching for the video on Google, the SERP shows a completely wrong, and inappropriate, thumbnail image. (And in one case the preview video starts playing within Google SERP.) It also seems that Google is indexing various countries' facebook page for the same video separately (it-it.facebook.com, fr-fr.facebook.com, etc). Note that only the thumbnail and preview video within Google are wrong; if you click on the link, you see the correct video and page. I hesitate to divulge the actual client video, but there are some reports on Google's search community about the same behavior: Here's one that stargs back in March: https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/33760205?hl=en and a more recent one: https://support.google.com/websearch/thread/71452151?hl=en It looks increasingly like a bug in some google algorithm, but nobody at google seems to acknowledge that. I've unpublished the original video from FB and submitted an 'outdated content' removal to Google, which is pending. In the meantime, my questions for our group of experts here: Has anyone else experienced this and any other suggestionso n how to fix? If we assume that this is not a google bug: how could a malicious actor or black-hat SEO influence Google's algorithms to cause this? Thanks, mickey

Should rel=publisher tags (pointing out at Google+ Business page) only go on the homepage?
Hello, I've just read... “Publisher tags should only go on the most significant page of your site, usually the homepage.” Is this correct?

Leveraging Facebook to Increase Domain Authority
We have a significant following on facebook with over 6,000 fans, but very few "likes" or "shares" of our homepage. Do fans in anyway affect our sites domain authority and what is the best way to leverage our fan base to increase our DA?

CONTEST RULES: WRITE A SHORT BLOG POST
Write a post on your blog focused on the theme “Making a Difference.” The post length is up to you but probably should be under 500 words. Some possible topics include. These posts do not have to be related to Vittana: How has education made a difference in your life? How have you used your education to make a difference in the world? What are, in your opinion, the best ways to make a difference? What are, in your opinion, the most pressing problems in the world today? What can we do about them. Check out the list of countries on left-hand side of Vittana’s student list. Have you been there? What are major problems facing the country? How might they be solved? In order for us to enter the contest, please send me the URL of your published blog post and your twitter handle. If you don’t have a twitter handle, we encourage you to sign up and create one for the purposes of scoring. Important: The scoring of posts is based in part by the number of tweets that your post receives. In order for us to properly calculate your score please ensure that your username and the hashtag #makeadifference is part of the tweet. Something like this: http://i.imgur.com/nlVij.png In order to make this process easier, we will be sending a “tweet this!” link so that when people do share the hashtag and your twitter username is already included. Good luck! And if you have any questions just let me know! Kenji1 -
