Link anchor text in list menus
-
Obviously Google likes descriptive anchor text. At least the first version on the page.
But suppose you had a list of scrap yard depots on a hover site menu, would you go for the person friendly nested list, so
- Scrap Yard Depots
- Newcastle
- Chester
- Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
Or the presumably more Google friendly;
- Scrap Yard Depots
- Newcastle Scrap Yard
- Chester Scrap Yard
- Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch Scrap Yard
- Scrap Yard Depots

they do like more descriptive anchor text good example
on my site i had dangerous drugs listed as just the name Example: "Topamax" had not done any seo to that page. it was on page 3 for "Topamax Lawyer" switching the menu anchor text to "Topamax Lawyer" made it jump to 2nd from the top
It only really works when you have only like 3 key words you are targeting if u are targeting 10+ than does not matter as much

In a way, I suppose this is a question about how well Google understands breadcrumbs and how much it values the information vs link anchor text. I'll do a blog search!

There is no point in having search results if your site puts people off. In navigation in particular put the user first.

Cornerstone Page And Outbound Links
I have a cornerstone page and 10 related articles that all have links to the cornerstone page. My question is, should the cornerstone page link back to those 10 articles as well or will it lose juice by doing so? Thanks in advance 😉

Too many onpage links
We got the weekly seomoz reports and see that most of our pages and posts contain too many onpage links. I checked our website and all of our pages have a header, footer and left side menu. I did the math and there are 13 links in the header, 26 links in the footer and 76 links in the left side menu. This means that all of our post and pages have 115 links at the start. So what do I do? Do I remove the left side menu from the posts' layout and use only the footer and header? Or do I add nofollow links? Thanks!

Are the menus created by Locu crawlable?
As many of you might now, Locu is a company that allows restaurant owners to manage and post their menus on multiple websites. Their service is pretty slick, but is does raise the issue of whether their menus are crawlable or not. You can see an example here: http://thequarternyc.com/menus.html. The menus are embedded into the website using a simple script: Using Google Fetch, it doesn't look like there's any content to crawl, but Locu claims that the content IS crawlable. I would love to get some other opinions on this question. Thanks!

Footer-links (navigation)
I want to put navigation links in my footer. I watched the (distilled) whiteboard friday video saying it can be a penalty. How are links in the footer different from links in the navigation. Why don't you get "hit" for putting the word "Real Estate Listings" in the navigation menu? It appears on every one of the 30k pages. I don't get why the links in the footer would have a negative effect if the links in the navigation don't. My example is a real estate website. When people are browsing properties (30k), it is convenient that at the end of the page there is a navigation of areas. I could put the navigation on the sidebar but that would be in essence, the same thing. A wordpress site would dynamically include that sidebar on every page.
