5xx Server Errors
-
Hey all,
Recently my site has seen a rise in 5xx errors which have all popped up since the first of the year.
Our company made a big announcement on 1/4 which drove a lot of traffic to the site, which I thought may be a reason for the sudden errors. But the errors have since continued. Also, the crawl from last week showed no errors at all (which I'm sure was a fluke)
Taking a closer look in GA, the pages that are receiving errors have not been visited for months.
Is this a random occurrence or should I consult someone to investigate our server?
Thanks,
Chris -
The crawl is showing that the errors are happening on very specific pages, so it may be a simpler solution like what you're describing.

One client I recently worked with had CloudFlare installed and it was causing tons of 500 errors. We removed it and they went away. Like I said see if you can identify specific pages it's happening on and isolate the code that is on those pages only. Good luck!

Thanks for the input, guys.
Looks like the move to make right now is double check code, then if the problem persists, dig into server issues.
-
This could also be something as simple as a bad code on some pages too. look at those old pages and see if there is a template or something associated with these pages that only they share. Might be isolating a script or disabling a plugin.

5xx errors refer to server errors, and can be caused by serious issues with the way your server is configured. I would definitely look investigate it further.

404 : Errors in crawl report - all pages are listed with index.html on a WordPress site
Hi Mozers, I have recently submitted a website using moz, which has pulled up a second version of every page on the WordPress site as a 404 error with index.html at the end of the URL. e.g Live page URL - http://www.autostemtechnology.com/applications/civil-blasting/ Report page URL - http://www.autostemtechnology.com/applications/civil-blasting/index.html The permalink structure is set as /%postname%/ For some reason the report has listed every page with index.html at the end of the page URL. I have tried a number of redirects in the .htaccess file but doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions will be strongly appreciated. Thanks

403 error for a member site
Perhaps a stupid question but SEOmoz registers 403 errors for pages behind a membersite (ie. they are restricted on purpose). Should I noindex these pages or just let SEOmoz register these "errors"?

Advice for 4000+ duplicate errors on 1st check
Hi, 1st time use of the SEOMOZ scan has thrown up a lot of duplicate errors. Seems to look like my site has a .com.au/ & .com.au/default for the same pages. We had the domain on a hosted cms solution & have now migrated to magento. We duplicated the pages, but had to redirect all of the old url's to he new magento structure. This was done via a developer adding a 301 wildcard code to the .htaccess. Would that many errors be normal for a 1st scan? Where should I look for someone to fix them? Thanks

Wordpress Plugin Causing Mobile Switcher 404 Errors
Hi All, Has anyone seen this 404 error before? I installed a wordpress plugin that would allow users to switch between a mobile and desktop theme. This was about 6 months ago and I thought nothing of it. Since I am new to SeoMoz, I have become aware of this lovely problem. After setting up my campaign, I now have 1600 something 404 errors due to this plugin. It looks like this plugin creates 4 to 5 links for each one of my posts and they all return up as a 404 error. Example: http://frogfanreport.com/football/page/36/ or http://frogfanreport.com/football/page/36/?wpmp_switcher=desktop I just noticed this morning in Google Webmaster tools that the errors are starting to show up there. Has anyone seen this? Or know if this is a problem and what to do? zach

Crawl Diagnostic Errors
Hi there, Seeing a large number of errors in the SEOMOZ Pro crawl results. The 404 errors are for pages that look like this: http://www.example.com/2010/07/blogpost/http:%2F%2Fwww.example.com%2F2010%2F07%2Fblogpost%2F I know that t%2F represents the two slashes, but I'm not sure why these addresses are being crawled. The site is a wordpress site. Anyone seen anything like this?
