Business Uses Third Party for Phone Number
-
I have a client that uses a third party rental agency to book their cabins. The client has that 3rd party company's number on the site and I have been tasked with building citations.
I feel this will create a problem by using another company's number instead of a custom one just for this business.
Thoughts on this matter?

Hi Noah,
I think the first issue here is actually going to be that Google+ Local doesn't consider rental properties as appropriate candidates for inclusion. Here is the language regarding this:
Ineligible Business Models
Rental or for-sale properties, such as vacation homes or vacant apartments, are not eligible to be listed on Google Maps and should not be verified. Instead, verify the listing for your sales or leasing office or offices. If you have a property with an on-site office, you may verify that office location.
Does the company have an on-site office? Otherwise, they will not be able to fully participate in typical local search activities.
They should definitely not be using another company's phone number. Google will be aware that this phone number belongs to the booking agency, and actually, having the client publish this in index-able text on their own website will harm the NAP consistency of the booking agency.
In order to fully participate in citation building, the client needs a physical, staffed office and a unique phone number at which the person who answers the phone answers with the company's name - not the name of a third party business.
I think you've surfaced a really interesting case here. You've made me wonder how many vacation rental companies are in this same boat!

Get 'em a Google Voice number and redirect it to the third party people. This will give the website owner some data about how many calls are coming in, when they are calling, if they are being answered, and where they are coming from. He can also then redirect the calls anywhere, take them himself if he wants or allow to ring through to third party. Very versatile. Free.

Your thoughts are correct. Using a third party number won't help with NAP and citation building. Because Google and every other data aggregator knows that the number being used isn't the actual business number you're basically creating confusion. Plus verifications with a third party phone number are impossible.
Having a local number helps all the aggregators geo locate the business in a sense, which helps with local seo.

Should you use www?
The age old question. Should I use "www." for a brand new content site assuming my goal (and most goals starting out) is to get to millions of visits per month? Does the community agree with, http://www.yes-www.org/why-use-www/? The only reason I question it honestly, since most high traffic companies in my search use www., is because moz doesn't. Thanks for your help. Seems it would be quite a pain to go back once you have a lot of traffic.

Should I use meta noindex and robots.txt disallow?
Hi, we have an alternate "list view" version of every one of our search results pages The list view has its own URL, indicated by a URL parameter I'm concerned about wasting our crawl budget on all these list view pages, which effectively doubles the amount of pages that need crawling When they were first launched, I had the noindex meta tag be placed on all list view pages, but I'm concerned that they are still being crawled Should I therefore go ahead and also apply a robots.txt disallow on that parameter to ensure that no crawling occurs? Or, will Googlebot/Bingbot also stop crawling that page over time? I assume that noindex still means "crawl"... Thanks 🙂

3rd Party hosted whitepapers — bad idea? Duplicate content?
It is common the B2B world to have 3rd parties host your whitepapers for added exposure. Is this a bad practice from an SEO point of view? Is the expectation that the 3rd parties use rel=canonical tags? I doubt most of them do . . .

Should you use a canonical tag on translated content in a multi-language country?
A customer of ours has a website in Belgium. There two main languages in Belgium: Dutch and French.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Zanox
At first there was only a Dutch version with a .be extension. Right now they are implementing the French Belgium version on the URL website.be/fr. All of the content and comments will be translated. Also the URL’s will change from Dutch to French, so you've got two URL’s with the same content but in another language. Question: Should you use a canonical tag on translated content in a multi-language country? I think Google will understand this is just for the usability for a Multilanguage country. What do you guys think???0 -

Is it ok to use both 301 redirect and rel="canonical' at the same time?
Hi everyone, I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I just wasn't able to find a response in previous questions. To fix the problems in our website regarding duplication I have the possibility to set up 301's and, at the same time, modify our CMS so that it automatically sets a rel="canonical" tag for every page that is generated. Would it be a problem to have both methods set up? Is it a problem to have a on a page that is redirecting to another one? Is it advisable to have a rel="canonical" tag on every single page? Thanks for reading!
