Page not ranking despite indicators showing should easily be mid-1st page?
-
I have many years old website selling a service. The main keyword is 47% competitive, and we used to be #1 page 2, occasionally page 1 couple years back.
Domain authority is double of any of the competitors on 1st page, followed root domain links is many times that of 1st page competitors, infact against some of them almost 10 times as much, MozRank and MozTrust higher too. Infact, every metric is higher than competition. Only metric which isn't as good is Followed vs NoFollowed links metric, 95% of our links are NoFollowed, but we are still #1 in external followed links.
Yet we are stuck on 4th page, and on some localizations we are not even in Top 50.
This has happened slowly over time, not a overnight thing. Page we are trying to rank for gets grade A for optimizations, yet we have less significant pages ranking higher for that keyword. Further, newer pages tend to rank better than old ones. The whole site actually ranks quite low and we are not even getting search traffic for long tail keywords.
No problems reported on GWT, Analytics etc.Is this a google penalization or something of the sort? How can i troubleshoot this and get past this?

"...slowly going downwards over the year"
This sounds like possibly user metric related, which are important ranking factors no tool is able to give us. It's possible, users have showed preference to other pages ranking for that query over time. Metrics could be;
- click through rate from SERPs
- bouncing back to SERPs ("pogo-sticking")
- time on page
- repeat visits to the page
- direct visits the page
- completed actions on that page
- ...etc
Essentially, users might be telling Google they don't like the page based upon their behavior. Some suggestions;
- Watch Rand's video about how to improve Pogo Sticking
- Check out these articles on improving CTR in the SERPs (most the top ranked resources there are good)
- Set up goal tracking to get a conversion rate
- Try Justin Cutroni's scroll tracking to see how users are interacting with the content
- Try a heatmap program like http://www.crazyegg.com/
Without being able to see your page, it's tough to give custom recommendations, but I would also recommend making sure you have the best design of any site in your niche for your audience.

It's been slowly going downwards over the year - the page itself is more than 2 years old, only with minor modifications during this time, basic texts have remained the same.
No changes correlate to major algorithm shifts as far as i can see.
Could google penalize that hard for the content age? This is a business frontpage - so there really is not that much to update on that particular page.
Our link portfolio hasn't seen major changes in years - infact, it seems to be pretty much the same. I went through the first 300 or so as reported from GWT on random check, didn't see anything seriously spammy, many of which are high quality organic links. HOWEVER, moz tools says we have ~8600 inbound links, and GWT says total links 854,161
Something seriously wierd is going on for the keyword since #2 position is held by a site with 1 external link inbound as per moz tools, only thing they have pretty much is 99 google +1s.
Downloaded more sample links and still cannot see anything seriously spammy. There are some scrapes and people copy pasting offers or announcements, but not much. There's also some semi-spammy sites which list best offers etc.
GWT tells no manual actions.

Ranking factors I would look over, how fresh is your content and how fast is the site? I would also run your site through copyscape to see if there is someone scraping the site.
I would also look over your link profile if there are too many spammy exact match anchor text links. With that I like to go back and compare my GA data to major shifts in the algorithm. It helps to identify what issues need to be fixed.

Image gallery page with very similar pictures
What measures should I take for a photographer's portfolio website with image-heavy gallery pages withotu content? Galleries are separated to different categories - weddings, fashion, beauty, thus having very similar content. What is better for example this page images https://www.karolinnafoto.lt/beauty/ 1. Use no titles and alts so as not to repeat and not be penalized?

What should my key words be for home page?
Hey Everyone, I'm curious if anyone can provide some insight as to what my keywords should be for my website. Just as a quick heads up, my company, Back In Motion Sport & Spine Physical Therapy, is a physical therapy clinic that specializes in orthopedic, sport, and spine injuries. You can find my site here: www.backinmotionsspt.com That said, I understand about doing key word research and integrating that on the site. However, since I am a smaller practice should the end of the my key word entail my city of Fort Myers, FL. For instance, should my key words be the following: Orthopedic physical therapy Fort Myers, FL Sport Rehabilitation Fort Myers, FL Back Pain Relief Fort Myers, FL Or.... Should they just be: Orthopedic physical therapy Sport rehabilitaiton Back pain relief I look forward to hearing any and all feedback.

Does Google do keyword matching when deciding whether to rank a page?
Hi, another newbie question on keyword research and selection (can't find any information on-line with this low level of detail)... If I've decided that my primary keyword for a given product page is the product name, something like 'AquaPower wet and dry cordless vacuum cleaner', can I assume that it isn't worth additionally optimising the page for 'cordless vacuum' as this has a phrase match in the primary keyword? Is it still worth additionally optimising for 'wet and dray vacuum' which has a broad match within the primary keyword or is Google bright enough to drop the intervening word 'cordless' when deciding whether to rank my page? Thanks for any guidance on this.

SEO'd Title Tag for Product Pricing Page with Little to No SV for Product Pricing Related Terminology
Hello, What should one do about a title tag for product pricing page (of a SaaS company)? The only keywords/phrases that have SV are "Acme Pricing" "Acme Product Pricing" and "Acme Solutions Pricing", but obviously I don't want to use all three since "Acme" and "Pricing" repeat in all three. Should the title tag just be "Acme Pricing"? In past experiences, a title tag that short typically gets changed by Google in SERPs. Should one not optimize the title tag at all? Any thoughts, suggestions, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Wrong page ranking for keyword.
I have a page i'm trying to rank for certain keywords around "emergency vet clinic" the page is domain.com/emergency-vet-care but my home page is the one that is ranking better and better. How can I get the other page to rank for e.g. "emergency vet care" , "emergency animal care" and the main page to rank for just regular vet care? My on page looks pretty good. I've also taken out most references to emergency care on the main home page except for the one link to it. Thanks

Which page is currently ranking the best for a particular keyword?
Hi Guys! I have approx. 50 keywords that I'm tracking for a website that has about 80 pages. I am wondering is there any way that I can find out which page on the site is currently ranking best for each of the keywords on my list? Ideally I would like to export the entire list with the keyword in the first column and the page that ranks best on the website for each given keyword, in the second column. Apologies if the wording of this post is confusing - I am not quite sure how to make it clearer. The aim of my task is to determine which keywords should be allocated to each page on the site so I need to work out which keywords are working already for certain pages so that I don't take those efforts away from the well-optimised pages. Many thanks! Meaghan

For an e-commerce page with more than 2,000 products, how should I conduct my initial keyword research?
Hi all, A confused and frustrated SEO noob needing a little guidance here 😞 I'm a bit lost on how I should conduct my keyword research for a start-up e-commerce site selling dietary supplements (~200 brands and ~2000 SKU's). From my understanding, there are two different types of pages I have to optimize for other than the Homepage & CMS pages: Category pages and product pages. As part of the fundamental on-page optimization, I'm planning to write unique category/product descriptions for better visibility (as well as to avoid duplicate content issues) on SE. Consequently, this process has prompted several questions related to my keyword research. My questions are: How would I determine which keywords to optimize for? How many keywords should I target per product page? per category page? Should I include product / brand name as keywords? The site isn't live yet, but is set to launch in mid-August. Any ideas on how I can conduct my keyword research to be used for category/product level pages? Thanks all.
