Just implemented microdata, what should one typically expect?
-
Should I expect my rankings to do any weird things over the next couple of days or weeks?
-
Search Appearance > Structured Data.
-
Thank you, Andy.
-
Just the Search Console results or the structured data testing tool results? Or any other results?
-
Hi Edward,
Usually you won't see much in the actual rankings for the next couple of weeks. What would be good to monitor in the meantime though are the reports around structured data to see if your microdata is being picked in the way its supposed to be.
It will make sure that your integration is working like expected on all your pages.Martijn.

Hi Edward,
It all depends on the microdata added and how quickly Google picks it up but as long as there are no issues, you should find Google returning results with additional information in the SERPs or with a better understanding of your site and pages. Timescale is always an unknown though.

Should I redirect a domain we control but which has been labeled 'toxic' or just shut it down?
Hi Mozzers: We recently launched a site for a client which involved bringing in and redirecting content which formerly had been hosted on different domains. One of these domains still existed and we have yet to bring over the content from it. It has also been flagged as a suspicious/toxic backlink source to our new domain. Would I be wise to redirect this old domain or should I just shut it down? None of the pages seem to have particular equity as link sources. Part of me is asking myself 'Why would we redirect a domain deemed toxic, why not just shut it down.' Thanks in advance, dave

Why do some reputable publishers have problems with their microdata?
I'm using the Google Structured Data Testing Tool to test: https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool NY Times and Women's Health being two good examples. These two reputable publishers don't seem to have the microdata they've implemented recognized. Are they doing something wrong or is there a problem with the tool?

Should We Add the W3.org Language Tag To Every Page Or Just The Home Page?
Greetings, We have five international sites around the world, two of which are in difference languages. Currently we have the following line of html code on the home page of each of the sites: Clearly, we need to change the "en" portion for the sites that aren't in English, but, should we include that meta tag in each of the site's pages, or will the home page suffice. Thanks!

What is the best way to consolidate two websites into one?
Someone within our company's IT department just sent me some SEO advice that I believe is bogus. Can someone let me know if my initial gut-check is correct? We have two websites selling two identical catalogs of products but branded differently (color scheme, wording, etc.) like this: www.one.com

www.two.com We want to shut down the second website. I think we should set up 301 redirects from all pages on the second site to corresponding (relevant) pages on the first. In theory, this would pass over 90% of the earned link juice from one to the other. Here is what my IT peer said: "We could keep www.two.com set up indefinitely and just have it as the same web site as www.one.com (so two URLs but one site). This would help alleviate any issues with search engine results, etc. (Although I believe Ryan would agree this does impact www.one.com's rankings a bit, but shouldn't be a problem as long as we don't advertise both.) Google doesn't know they are on the same site, so you could technically get away with it. And it helps in indexing multiple pages on our sites." ... but wouldn't this be a big no-no because of the massive amounts of duplicate content it would create?0 -
Microdata and dinamic data.
Hi, everybody! We're starting up a local services website in Brazil. Something like redbeacon.com or thumbtack.com, but obviously different. So we are developing our 2.0 version of the site, and I want do put microdata in every provider's pages, to rank people's evaluation about this particular provider, and geographic information about him. Ok, we want to use microdata in several pages, but those are more important: the providers. These data (geo and rank) will be dynamically generated from our database. In Schema.org, I only found information about using static data to build microdata for my intentions. My doubt is: does google and bing and yahoo and etc index dynamic generated data? Is there something about sitemaps.xml or robots.txt that I can do to have my data indexed on search engines? Our front-end is the guy who deal with html and our codemaster uses pure php for coding. Thanks!

Failing Miserably - Should I Just Bin This Site
I am in the last weeks of my 3 months paid subscription with SEOMOZ and very sad to go. The main reason is that my website design business site is delivering no business to me at the moment. Zero - zip - nada. It has been live for the past 4 years and cumulatively it has probably paid for few beers and pizza. Most of my business has been through word of mouth and not through direct traffic to the site. I had really hoped the site would be the sweet 25% extra. Now the overall website business is reasonably healthy but I cant understand what I am doing worng with the site. I have tried and failed to optimise and am at my wits end what to do with it. If anything my ranking is dropping over the past months. Could any of you guys give me some ideas and tips before I literally hang up the shingle on this site and start from scratch with a new design and revision. I want to rank for website design and as we all know you need to be above the fold on page 1 to do this but I think my overall design and strategy for this site is flawed and I should start again. But if you have ideas then shout before I head over the high Irish sierras for better lands. http://www.grangewebdesign.com is the site - feel free to check it out and give tips -
