Just implemented microdata, what should one typically expect?
-
Should I expect my rankings to do any weird things over the next couple of days or weeks?
-
Search Appearance > Structured Data.
-
Thank you, Andy.
-
Just the Search Console results or the structured data testing tool results? Or any other results?
-
Hi Edward,
Usually you won't see much in the actual rankings for the next couple of weeks. What would be good to monitor in the meantime though are the reports around structured data to see if your microdata is being picked in the way its supposed to be.
It will make sure that your integration is working like expected on all your pages.Martijn.

Hi Edward,
It all depends on the microdata added and how quickly Google picks it up but as long as there are no issues, you should find Google returning results with additional information in the SERPs or with a better understanding of your site and pages. Timescale is always an unknown though.

I have mainly very short customer review comments. Shall I only publish longer ones?
Our customer reviews of products are mainly very short and many times not fully formulated sentences. Would you recommend to just publish the longer comments? I am concerned about googles evaluation of the quality of the page content.

Community Discussion - What old-school SEO tactics no longer work? Which ones still do?
Hi there, friends! This week's discussion comes from today's Whiteboard Friday: Rand's outlined SEO practices that are outdated and no longer effective. Did anything catch you off-guard, making you want to pivot your strategy? Anything that you disagree with, or that you feel still works well regardless? What other tactics, in your experience, no longer work?

Why would one of the big 4 banks in Australia recently start defining meta-keywords?
Hi All, Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I just stumbled upon one of our competitors who for some reason is all of a sudden defining meta keywords for their product pages. I find this extremely strange since its a definite no-no to define these? They are one of the largest (Chase, Barclays equivalent) in Australia with a large digital team. Do they know something we don't? Hope someone can help. Cheers, Dave

Just identified and reversed a severe footer links penalty - any similar experiences out there?
Just seen my first rather dramatic sitewide footer links penalty. Virtually all organic search traffic fell off site for 3 months. The footer links were a mix of keyphrases targeted at internal pages and keyphrases targeted at a handful of other associated companies (a group of enterprises owned by same businessman, with websites hosted in the same place). The website developers felt they were improving search engine visibility. Anyway, as soon as I started work with this client I requested immediate removal of the footer links and traffic immediately recovered to pre-penalty levels (within a couple of days). Have any of you experienced anything similar?

How would I be able to move content from one domain to another?
I have a client that wants to migrate some of his site's content to a new domain, not all of the content, just some of it. This is not an address change. He wants to continue actively using the domain name where all this content currently resides, so it's not a matter of notifying search engines of an address change. The first thing that comes to mind is the use of the canonical tag, but it's not making sense. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Block all but one URL in a directory using robots.txt?
Is it possible to block all but one URL with robots.txt? for example domain.com/subfolder/example.html, if we block the /subfolder/ directory we want all URLs except for the exact match url domain.com/subfolder to be blocked.
