How do I optimize my online directory website?
-
I am starting a directory website. The biggest issue that I am having is trying to figure out which keywords to use and how to optimize for them.
I am using Wordpress and we have overall category pages, such as Hair & Beauty. And then we have filters for users to reach subcategories such as, Skincare.
My problem is that these subcategories are not actual pages, when the filter is used it just returns businesses within that category that have been marked to show for that filter. The URL doesn't change or it doesn't take you to a new page.
So, I am trying to determine how do I optimize for my subcategory keywords if these aren't technically pages?

I'm not sure, but wordpress from a technical standpoint, is not what you really want. It's slow. It comes with too much of plugins in order to get something running right. It needs a beefy server in order to keep that TTFB low, and you gotta find a way to deal with alot of noise in relation of traffic since wordpress (and the more populair yours is) is getting attacked on 24 hours basis pretty much.
A plugin now could be leak, and your website could be sensitive to hacks, which means malware could be server, hidden backlinks could be planted on your domain pointing to vague sites, lets say if you have a payment processor running there malware could be injected to fetch credit card details and so on. No wordpress is'nt on my favorites list really.

Hi Jeroen, thanks for your advice! Do you have any recommendations on the best platforms to build directories?
-
If i'm correct these are category's, and you can actually put content per category inside of wordpress. But building a directory website with wordpress in the first place is not a recommendation. it's awefully slow, it eats resources whenever you start to have some to serious traffic, and overall it takes alot of work to 'optimize' it apart from the one-click plugins.

Small Business website help please. All help is appreciated and thank you in advance.
Hello I am working on my families website, it is a Colorado barn construction site. I am new here, so any and all help is appreciated. I have already gotten some excellent tips for general seo, but now trying to pinpoint in on a target. I am reading as much as I can everyday. My questions are: Keywords... Ok so when I type in keywords and the results come up, even with an exact match, I am 12 pages back. So what influences the keyword rankings? Is it best to add in like say a service into a paragraph? Like I have been using Ubersuggest or however its spelled, and so would you take keyword phrases and then try to naturally add them to paragraphs? Is this how rankings are created? Thus your site being found? I have major competition that does not even have the keywords I type in, found on there site, and they still rank #1. So I feel that it must lead into my next question DA. Domain Authority: I assume domain authority comes into play. The leading company in my world has a 50 and I have a 15. I am trying to raise this, and using the Moz tools I see my competitor has like 400 edu links. So in some ways it seems like wow get as many edu links as possible. But now it seems like this is not good? Like everyone is afraid to get links that may be considered spam in nature. That being said, would you still go after edu links? Media: So kind of an odd question, but does adding a video to a home page help bounce rates? Like maybe if they sit and watch a two minute video that is interesting, then they may check out the rest of the site? Or for the sake of load times, do you keep the homepage as fast as possible? Thank you for any tips. Also if you view my site, please give me any negative feedback as you can to help me improve. Thank you Chris

Does my website have a bad rank in google because EMD or lack content ?
Hello, I'm a beginner I just started my website xxx a few days ago. I submitted my url to several good quality directories (about 20, the last 3 days), I tried to write different descriptions for each directory. I have a very bad rank on google results (28+) for keywords "psychologue montluçon" I don't know if it's because of : lack of content, EMD, lack of backlinks (I submitted my website to directories, but its seems it takes a lot of time for updates). Sorry for bad english, if you can help, thank you !

Live Search tool for text on websites
Hi everyone, Does anyone know of an online scanner / search tool that will do a live check for the occurance or a word or phrase on a website? I know you can use Google's site:domainname.com <word phrase="">but that is only checking what Google has in its current index for that site. I am looking for a tool that will do a live scan and search (i.e. as at the time) and then return a list of occurances it has found for the word or phrase.</word> Thanks in advance for this. Peter

Best Practices For Keyword Optimization
Hey currently building a new page on a clients site in the weight loss niche. The keywords he wants to rank for are the following: <colgroup><col width="198"> <col width="64"></colgroup>

| [fat burning foods] | 49500 |
| [foods that burn fat] | 22200 |
| [fat burning foods for women] | 2900 |
| [belly fat burning foods] | 2900 |
| [best fat burning foods] | 1900 |
| [fat burning foods for men] | 1900 |
| [list of fat burning foods] | 720 | His site is new, but he has excellent content production capabilities. My question is, in terms of optimizing the page (the title and url) for these keywords would you focus on the highest volume keyword. In this case the highest volume keyword is "fat burning foods" however is the most competitive and dominated by high domain authority sites (50+ vs. clients site which is around 30). Thus its highly unlikely he will rank for that keyword for quite a while. But for the keyword term "best fat burning foods" the competition is alot less in terms of DA and other factors but volume is smaller with 1900 hits a month. So would you optimize the page (the title and url) for "best fat burning food" or would you optimize thinking about the long-term and eventually ranking the keyword "fat burning foods". My thinking would be to optimize the page for "fat burning foods". And that the benefits of optimizing (url and title) for "best fat burning foods" isn't ideal for the long-run. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Cheers, Mark0 -
How can I best optimize only meta descriptions for an ecommerce?
Recently, a client ask me for a total change of all the meta descriptions in his website. For the moment, this is the only work he want to do in his website. I said him about the difficulty about doing SEO only optimizing some parts of the whole, but he didn´t care. He only wants to change meta descriptions! That's right, it's up to you! The website is about supplements for bodybuilding and fitness. Each category of the ecommerce deals with a type of product: testosterone boosters, protein powders, weight gainers, etc. And now my question is: Should I choose different keywords for each category of products, or the same keywords for the whole website? I started choosing the same general keywords for homepage and nav, and category related keywords for categories and products. Doing well? Thanks.

Using local monthly searches for generating website keywords
Hi Guys,Im researching keywords to add to our new website with google key words. At this stage we are not using any paid searches or any PPC and are solely looking to be optimized for organic searches. With this in mind should I focus on populating out site with words that rank high under the column " local monthly searches' and not worry about the words that rank high under CPC and the Competition columns? .

How do you optimize for compound keywords
What is the best way to handle keywords like "switchplate covers"? The key word may be seen as either a 2 or 3 word phrase, depending how you handle the compound term: "switch plate" or "switchplate" In google KW it shows different results for switch plate vs switchplate as well as using cover vs covers. I've tried using all the variations in my descriptions, titles and H2s but I think this is diluting them all. Can anyone show me best practice guidelenes or examples of good solutions to these kinds of compound key words? Thanks Handcrafter
